Xerith's Big Gay MCD Rewrite
100 posts
A side blog for Xerith (me, hi) to talk about their incredibly gay MCD rewrite that's a thing now. Asks are open, plaese bother me to actually think of ideas for this instead of letting it rot in my brain. [This blog is 18+ only, Minors DNI] [any post tagged as NSFW might creep into Dead Dove territory]

I need to add more FFIX elements and lore to my ever expanding rewrite. Not all of them, Irene knows I don't want to introduce the idea of dead planets and harvesting the souls of the departed to power our industrial revolution. But I should add more of its magic and abilities, name summoners and their Eidolons. Gonna start tinkering with those and figuring out who in the cast gets to be a summoner.

Adding my personal pantheon to my MCD rewrite might have seemed like a good way to fill in a lot of blanks in my lore, but I'm realizing now it's only going to create more questions I have to answer because this pantheon have uhhh... well let's just say this version of mcd that might not even be mcd when I'm done with it is not their first rodeo, and the implications of that are making me want to tear my hair out

The more random bull shit I add and the more significant plots I actively change major parts of, the closer I get to just... Y'know... Not doing anything to extreme, just changing every character name and location name and rewriting even more of the worlds lore to the point that this isn't even an MCD rewrite it's just an original story that draws a lot of inspiration from MCD but is it's own thing...
I'm not saying I'm gonna do that. But I'm not saying I'm not not gonna do that.

Wait I said that last names having Rose in them is a sign of high authority or nobility in Tu'la.
And uhhh... Nicole's one of the only characters who actually has a given last name. Von Rosenberg.
So I guess there's some storyline about a Tu'la nobility fleeing from their home for whatever reason, ending up in Ru'aun, only to somehow bring together a whole village almost entirely on accident and a century or so later it's become one of the major super powers of Ru'aun.
OOPS
Sure would be interesting if Nicole ever met someone from Tu'la who might even know about this story. Or at the very least be intrigued by the fact that she has that last name and such a strong tie to roses despite Scaleswind having one of the largest churches of Irene in the entire continent.
This is the part where I wish I had more artwork of my OC so I could make a funny joke about it. The joke is that she's from Tu'la and literally falls in love with Nicole so she would absolutely be thinking about this. And maybe it would eventually become the catalyst for her to realize how much of what her entire culture knows about Menphia is actually that she's the biggest simp for Irene ever of all time. And that member of a Tu'la royal family who ran the fuck away and took their nobility with them only to start an entire village dedicated to worshiping Irene, was perhaps more in line with the actions of Menphia the Fury than any warmongering king could dream of.
God I love world building.

I realize that the way I write Tu'la means that Cadenza would be completely worshipped if she ever ended up there. There's a big part of their culture and customs centered around roses because they were Menphia's favorite flower (they were actually Irene's favorite flower and Menphia just kept coveting them to give to/remember her beloved).
And I mean big part. Noble families are known because they have Rose in their name, guards paint roses onto their shields and armor when they fight for the royal army, rose bushes are growing in every place they can in major and even smaller cities. My favorite rose detail is actually tattoo related. Soldiers of Tu'la, or at least those who fight for or under the guidance of Menphia, are to get a tattoo of their weapon of choice and a rose after surviving their first bloodshed. Another rose is added to the design for every battle thereafter as the soldier deems necessary or worthy of remembrance.
In waltzes Miss Cadenza Zvahl, and her literal physical connection to roses. I don't know if I've ever talked about it in this blog, but I made Cadenza a plant woman. Because... I thought that'd be cool. She has a whole motif with roses in canon MCD, and never fully explained magical powers, so I mashed them together. She's a druid but with a specific focus on roses, though her magic does just effect plants in general. But all of her expressions of her plant woman-ness are done through roses.
Let's not forget she's a seamstress, you know she has made dozens of dozens of pieces using rose fabric, hounding down every merchant from Tu'la to see if they have any because the best patterns come from there, so one day she goes straight to the source. All dressed up in her rose covered gown, always looking as a noble woman, walking with guards, and carrying herself with respect or dignity. Citizens question whether she's somehow a hidden noble, or perhaps a noble daughter returning from some long term vacation.
Then there's a mutter about how similar she looks to Menphia.
[vague off screen whispering]
What do you mean Cadenza is canonically white??
Well this is my rewrite and she's black, don't ask me for specific races or ethnicities because that'll quickly turn into Lore, I just know it. But she has dark skin that's what matters. And bright orange hair. And she's covered in roses. In fact when she gets excited and starts dancing with the bards who play in the plaza she leaves a trail of rose petals behind her. What... What if it's her? What if she reincarnated and they never found her because she was on another continent? And now she's come to her home land, but for what cause?
Cadenza of course is barely thrown by some of the whispers, but there is a feeling she gets struck with as they grow around her. She's just here for a few weeks to see some sights and spend all of her savings on fabric, but people are giving her side eyes, followed by giving her... Tokens of favor?
Yeah little trinkets like rose charms, small gemstones, coins, rose petals, even notes of prayer or affection start to become common place whenever she leaves her room at the Inn. She picked up pretty quickly that roses were a big motif in Tu'la, and that it was because of Menphia, but it's when she reads one of those prayers that she realizes what's happened. That people have somehow convinced themselves she is Menphia.
And how does she react to that? It is a fanfic I don't have time to write because I'm an adult with shit to do, but I'll get to it and my ever increasing pile of drafts one day. I'm always motivated to write by Cadenza.

I have some good news and some bad news for my rewrite.
The good news is that I'm adding my own original Pantheon of gods who actually have their roots in Minecraft Diaries rewrites

Every night I got to bed with the knowledge that I could ruin the ability for this story to be comprehended with a single change that adds at least 40 pages of lore to this rewrite in an instant.
Maybe one of these nights I'll make that choice.

This is actually their dynamic in my rewrite!! Both of them know they're the best at what they do, but they do totally opposite things. Lilian gaslights people while Janus cuts them in half. So they're trying to one up each other in their own respective fields and always rubbing it in each other's faces, even if they barely value one another's accomplishments.
Zane is fully aware of this rivalry and actively feeds into it because it makes them both better at their jobs. Sometimes they take it too far, he has had to reprimand Janus for killing someone he was meant to leave alive because Lilian pissed him off, but Zane is overall okay with this dynamic between them. He shows them as much love as he wants to, and then they spend the rest of their time fighting for more of it. Probably fuels his ego a lot.
i love zajanus as much as the next person but i think were failing to see the potential in lillian/zane/janus where lillian and janus have an on going rivalry of trying to be zanes favorite. thats just me tho

I have to be different cause none of these describe what I do! By that I mean I employ all of them. I have sections that are the original script word for word sans the unnecessary ellipses, I have sections where I just re-order or slightly reword dialogue but keep the entire vibe of the scene exactly the same, and I have entire sections of the story that just straight up did not happen in canon. And I have no basis for those.
It's what makes a rewrite so fun! I take from canon when/how I want, and then I get to do my own thing the rest of the time.
Maybe one of these days I'll actually get back to writing it

My goal is to somehow do both
Feel like one of the things this fandom is most divided over is Irene.
Like, half of folks seem to think of her as a meek lamb to the slaughter being led along by the other divine, and the other half of you think she was the most terrifying motherfucker ever to walk the ground of Ru'an.

One of these days I'll make a meme of all the blind characters in my MCD rewrite shaking hands (there's like 4 of them at least)
Also the bad eyes duo. Laurence can’t see for shit (he just like me frfr) and Zane has 0 depth perception
“One eye.” “you just walked into the coffee table. I don’t wanna hear it. [walks into the doorframe]”
Real. Real. Rea

All of the above, based on where they were raised and what the value of that place is. For example:
Ru'aun: 21
Gal'ruk: 18
Tu'la: Under 18 (for ceremonious circumstances)
And certain families or beliefs make people see drinking as okay at different ages as well. Nicole started drinking when she was super young, while Garroth was basically never allowed to drink all because of the slightly different priorities of their terrible fathers.
