can you believe that we have fanfiction. that we have websites dedicated to fanfiction. that there is a place that you can go and read tens, hundreds, thousands and thousands of pieces of writing that strangers have made. people who are not "writers". people who come home at the end of the day and have feelings and say, i am going to put that into words. i am going to share those words. short, long, sweet, sad, horny, funny, wonderful words. we are all just human and we all love to make and remake and share that with others. can you believe that.

ok so as promised i am makinn a list of ways bapo doesnt line up w romeo and juliet

- mercutio and romeo are gay for each other (debatable, ik, but personally i cant see romeo having feelings for mercutio)

- juliet has a unrequited crush on romeo

- romeo gets juliet pregnant

- Tybalt has a crush on his fricken cousin

- Benvolio sells romeo the poison (ig benvolio is the apothecary now…)

- Juliet doesnt die

- Benvolio is dating lady capulet (…)

- Nurse is romeo’s twin sister (NURSE IS ACTUALLY A MONTAGUE LE GASP?)

- Tybalt outs mercutio and romeo (no tybalt you do not)

- Nurse slaps everyone (as she should /j)

- Juliet bodyshames nurse

- Nurse slut-shames juliet

- Everyone is catholic

ok so im only half active on this account but just a thought about bare: a pop opera and the weird romeo and juliet parallels…

so i was reading through R&J a bit the other day, because i have a copy for my english class, and i noticed something in act 3 scene 1

tybalt accuses mercutio of “consorting” with romeo. this term has several meanings, and it CAN include a sexual undertone. it is said several times throughout this scene.

while bare does not use this part, they are doing the fight scene from that same scene of the play. it is also in this part (reputation stain’d) that matt calls jason the f slur.

is it a coincidence? probably. especially since they dont line up enough to be considered parallels. (i will probs post later about all the ways the “parallel” used in bare is convoluted) also, i believe not everyone agrees on the interpretation of the word anyway. idk, i thought it was interesting that tybalt and matt both accuse someone of homosexuality in that part. however, matt accuses jason (romeo) and not peter (mercutio), in contradt with tybalt accusing mercutio in the actual play, so that doesnt make sense… but jason would likely get defensive and deflect the accusations in a manner similar to mercutio’s actual reaction.

also, mildly off topic, is the joke claire says about “best friends playing best friends” supposed to imply romeo/mercutio? (I mean, i know its meant that way as a joke in bare, but is there any actual text evidence from r&j to support that? i can kinda see one sided mercutio, but like…)

also also, i dont know how i feel about the way they “paralleled” the bare characters. i know its not a perfect parallel, but just… idk

so i'm kinda having an obsession with bapo rn. (if anyone else likes this show pls hmu cause none of my friends know it)

anyway i have some rambling about stuff related to the show... (SPOILER WARNING!)

Payson Lewis and Jonah Platt have amazing Peter-Jason chemistry and my personal fav

but also peter upset he wouldnt come out even tho jason couldve been in actual danger... bruh... i get being mad abt the stuff jason did but i think peter was kinda... no...

Ok but Ivy… she literally was such a jerk to Matt in the 2013 ver (whats their relationship status?! it seems like established relationship so she would be cheating... bruh... but its diff in other versions)

If only sister chantelle sang GDMNT to jason… but he probs would just deny it... but like... this show just makes me so sad in general

or if only they had been born twenty years later…

Jason probably d!3d during pride month… (so basically i tried to piece together bits and pieces and since graduation seems to be in june, and the play is within like a week, it was probably june)

He also never got to see gay marraige get legalized… :(

i headcanon that this happens in florida... i mean cmon... florida is florida and it makes the south beach line in epiphany so funny

why are matt and ivy tybalt and juliet i get the fight scene was a whole thing but cmon THEYRE COUSINS and imo paris just makes more sense

Also imo the most unrealistic thing on this show is that theyre allwoed to go in the other gender’s dorms (well maybe theyre not allowed they just do it anyway)

Debating the healthiness of Peter and Jason’s relationship is missing the point. No, it wasn’t as healthy as it could’ve been, and that’s part of the tragedy. They should have been able to have a relationship that didn’t get worn down by the secrets and the guilt. They should have been able to have a regular, unremarkable high school romance, and it should’ve been able to end without causing more than a few hurt feelings.

But because of the culture they were surrounded by, they couldn’t do that. Jason was a bad boyfriend because of the self-hatred the church instilled in him. The point is that they were both flawed teenagers and they should’ve been able to make mistakes without it being deadly.
