how to not pick up girls

why must some dudes try to sneakily get girls to go out with them? like, can you please just be upfront with what you're trying to get at?

let me set the scene:

girl works at coffee shop. boy comes in every morning, gets the same drink, girl remembers drink and makes it for him. girl is wearing playstation t-shirt, so boy comments on it. conversation of shared interest ensues. girl is nice to boy because boy is a friendly customer. boy returns following day and hands girl slip of paper with his number, saying he knows a friend with a spare playstation if she is interested in purchasing it. girl says 'cool thanks'. this is totally acceptable behavior, as long the story ends here. boy continues coming into shop as usual, and after a few days decides to mention 'not sure if you still have my number, but you should message me, maybe we can do something - something cheap (he laughs). i live nearby'. girl is stunned and doesn't know what to say except 'o-oh - yeah - ok...' while boy scurries off.

i mean, maybe it's just me being weak bitch, because i don't like awkward situations, especially when i have to deal with serving said person every day, but if he had just outright asked me out on a date instead of casually suggesting we 'do something' i feel like i would've had an easier time giving a flat-out 'no'. i don't like when guys do the whole 'get to know each other' chit chat and then slyly slip in the 'hey let's go hang out like buddies' thing because there's always a hidden agenda, so the entire interaction feels like they're just setting you up for a trap.

therefore, guys, if any of you see this and do this... please. stop. ESPECIALLY if it's with a girl who's at her fucking job. i'm all for giving a girl your number or straight up asking her out (i mean, never hurts to ask right?) but if you don't hear from her the first time or she immediately rejects you PLEASE don't persist. take a hint.
