Freya listened to the man, nodding slowly at his predicament, before holding a finger up - the universal sign for hold on one minute. Nearly thirty seconds later, she returned with a small glass box, and inside, sleeping, was a small fluffy thing. “Hamster. This one was rescued two months ago, it had gotten loose from a house but no one claimed it. It’s between this, or a pygmy puff.” 

Niko made a face at her words, scrunching his nose up. He had looked at Pygmy Puffs, but for some reason, hated them on principle. "A hamster?" He bent slightly, peering into the box. "She won't be able to like, squeeze it to death or something, will she? It's so small."

“Nico! Hi! ”Lilianna smiled. “Its nice to see you,” She opened her arms for a hug, “ Ive been here for a little while now. Im teaching at Ilvermorny.” She explained.  

He laughed as he hugged her tight, glad she still recognized him. It had been a while since they'd seen each other, and he was barely the same person she had known in school. At least, that's what it felt like most days. "Teaching? Look at you go." Niko grinned, nudging her arm playfully. "What class?"

"Same reason anybody does, I guess." Niko shrugged, he wasn't married to the idea, but he'd been considering it on and off for a while now. "Just silence my head for a bit every now and then."

“I really wish you didn’t mean your daughter when you said things like that,” Terrie laughed, giving him a light nudge. “You’re seriously not even going to try and find someone even if it’s just for the midnight kiss?”

"What's so wrong with wanting to spend the new year with my daughter? Is she not supposed to be like, my top priority?" He scoffed, shaking his head. "What's the point? Just to kiss a stranger? I guess I'm in the minority here, but I don't think that's such a great start to 2019."

“That’s not what I meant,” said Arwen, laughing. “I meant, I’d make sure she doesn’t get hurt.”

"I know you will." He replied with a nod, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Even if you didn't, I don't think I'd win this one, anyway. She loves her aunt Arwen."

“She’s great,” Claire nodded, smiling. “Hey, we should all get together some time. Bring the kiddo, too, maybe we could do a lunch thing and catch up,” she suggested, shrugging. 

"Yeah? You'd be down for that? You do know you'd have to go some place that has Mac 'n cheese on the menu." Niko laughed, although his expression brightened at the idea.

“Yeah, well what else is new?” He laughed, smirking at him. “I’m still not convinced.”

“Right, see, that is a plan! Track down Terrie, find out what books excite Tyler and that he’d want to share with Stella then get them for her! ”

“Yeah, well, where’s the fun is just giving in right away?” He laughed, nodding as he listened to her outline what she would do. “Well first, get a list of the books we have, because the last thing I need are doubles.”

“And just when I thought there wasn’t a single familiar face here tonight.” He sighed happily, smiling. “Nice to see you again - been quite a while.”

“Is that supposed to be comforting?” He laughed, teasing. “Because implying she’d need  a Healer is not what I wanted to hear.”

“Do you know how to get a Pensieve? Is there paperwork or - do you need to get approved? Or can you just.... buy one? Sorry, I’m - I’m not exactly in the loop with these things anymore.”

With a playful glare, Xander took a sip from his drink, not sure how he felt about potentially being in the running for the most depressingly single sibling. “I’ll have you know I’m not as depressing as you might think,” he said simply, not sure he should tell him he’d actually seen and spoken to Riley again lately.“

Zelda gave a small smile as he made to leave, not wanting to show that she was somewhat disappointed that their meeting was being cut short, particularly when he seemed to be so interesting, but as the girl took her hand, she found her smile growing exponentially and a light laugh flittered through her. The girl certainly seemed to have taken a liking to her, and as thrilled as she was to be talking to the handsome man, that fact filled her with such a feeling of pure happiness that she knew she’d be able to live on it for weeks to come. But she didn’t want to impose, as much as she wanted to keep the conversation going and stay with the man and his daughter, and she definitely didn’t want to turn another aisle and find he had a wife waiting for them. “I’m happy to join you, as long as I’m not overstepping or anything,” she spoke to the man, trying to find out whether or not she was wanted without ending up making him the bad guy in his daughter’s eyes if he wanted her to leave.

“Not overstepping at all. I’m actually pretty sure Stella would disown me if I didn’t let you come with us.” He laughed. “Not that I’m complaining.” He tacked on with a smile, wanting her to know he was also enjoying her company, and not simply inviting her to avoid a tantrum from his daughter. “But I’ve got to warn you - she’s sneaky. You’ll end up with twice as many groceries as you thought you had by the time you make it to the register.”

“Oh, please, we both know if they got married I’d have no chance against Stella. She’d be running the show, we’d be doing whatever she wanted,” Terrie laughed.

"Not sure whether that's a good or a bad comment on my parenting skills." He laughed with her, shaking his head. "But you're probably right, regardless."
