Hi everyone! Here is a small sample of a photoshoot I did a few weeks ago to honor my Taino ancestors. Tainos were an indigenous people of the Caribbean including inhabitants of most of Cuba, Hispaniola, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, The Bahamas, and the Greater Antilles. I am very passionate about seeing diversity in Hollywood, and, as a filmmaker, my awareness of my ethnic roots is an influential part of my voice. While this half-Cuban, half-Puerto Rican director typically resides behind the camera, I believe that by putting my face in front of the lens, these images could be an instrument for me to give my people the representation in which they are so sorely absent from in our pop culture.
