How does knowledge on the different types of internet languages affect professionalism in new media?
Written by Fatin Diana Syuhada binti Muhammad Asyraf Yong (2019336077) – MLG1201B
Different types of internet language may affect professionalism in new media in some ways because the English language has changed throughout the years. One of the reasons is because of its evolution in various ways, including the use of abbreviations, acronyms, internet slangs, and emoticons that has been appeared as a distinctive language system. The existence of internet language also affects the linguistic changes, which makes it hard for linguists to adapt its ever changing phases in the internet environment as well as the daily language that most people use. For example, the use of internet slangs in platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram has widespread for most people especially among teenagers. This may lead to them being lazy and perhaps a little odd as most of these slangs does not make sense. Internet languages also changes rapidly due to chance and external factors, such as the influence the internet has on slang and commonplace abbreviations. Authors and linguists, after discussing their house style guide, should depend on their own perception when faced with a grammar problem. Authoritarian has the possibility to make a piece of writing seem dated or uninteresting. That doesn’t mean we need to spice up our sentences with emojis or every slang word of the moment. It means that by noticing the way we’re using words and applying those observations methodically, we increase our chances of connecting with other people. Even though the new internet language requires some unique adaptations, it does provide us with a whole new way to communicate, which makes the new generation millennials be better at communicating even professionally with other people. In conclusion, the transformation of internet languages does not have that much of a drastic negative effect in professionalism in new media.

IS CYBER CULTURE CHANGING THE WAY WE WRITE AND SPEAK?
Written by Nur Ain Syafina binti Ahmad Nazarudin (2019974031) - MLG1201B
‘Cyber’ and ‘culture’ are two different words that are brought together, to create the word ‘cyber culture’ that remained in our dictionary until now. Firstly, we need to understand the definition of ‘cyber culture’ which is; the social conditions brought about by the widespread use of computer networks for communication, entertainment and business. The human communication has been revolutionized from cave painting to the form of speech that we are using today. Consequently the English language too, believe it or not is evolving throughout generations. This is because the growth of technology has impacted our linguistic in writing and verbally. The modern world has created many new terms in technology world such as ‘windows’, ’inbox’, ‘selfie’ and more. However, the youth is the main reason for the existance of various new vocabularies that have been added into our dictionary. We learned new words from different people everyday, one can say English is a flexible and adaptable language as we make our own interpretations of what the speaker tries to conceive. Certain party sees this as a casualty or concern in the linguistic world as the informality usage words of English today stripped the structure and rule of proper English and loses some of the elegant element from the old English style. Unlike, the old times, we can get an immediate answer just by the tip of our finger, hence is why people use abbreviations such as ‘OMG’ and ’LOL’ to shorten their text. Grammatical error in the informal usage of the language has become a normality as the purpose of communication through cyberworld is to make the receivers get the idea the users’ effort in conveying the message regardless if the text is using proper English or not.

With regards to the use of English Language, how do we ensure the effectiveness of a particular new media content/material delivered in new media platforms?
Written by Nur Balqis Binti Abdul Harith (2019985597) - MLG1201B
In this modern era, the use of English is very important because the language is lingua franca, which is the intermediate language used to communicate with people who have other main languages. ELF can also be used with various races. In addition, with the new media platform, English has become the main language for its users to communicate through smart phones, social media and so on, it has been an intermediate medium for us to receive information and news. This is because information is widely communicated through modern technology. As such, various techniques in the use of English have been practiced by the public to ensure the effectiveness of a material being disseminated in the new media. For example, meme use an image, video and more, typically humorous in nature, that is shared rapidly through social media such as Instagram, Facebook and more can leave a profound effect if used at the right time and place. Base on Aaron Friedman (March 5,2013) The Lasting Effect Of Memes & Social Media Timing, they say timing is everything. The prime example we can use for this is the trend of "Harlem Shaking" that has been spreading around the Internet. Next, the use of this technique also can be found in the field of advertising which can give great impact on others, eventually attract people with that product. Moreover, the use of simple English language, helps the users to easily use English to interact. Citing words from Wil (2014) Has social media changed the way we speak and write English?, the use of acronyms or abbreviations are now commonplace substitutes to whole sentences; LOL (laugh out loud). OMG (Oh my God), are just a few that demonstrate how social media speeds things up by lessening longer phrases and reduces space. Furthermore, English has also had a great impact in the employment sector, especially in the field of tourism. As we know, the tourism sector is a very important national economic resource. Therefore, if the English language is used well in new media to promote the sector, there are many advantages that a country can earn in generating their economy. Quoting the words of Juliet Carnoy (March 3, 2017) 5 Ways Social Media Has Transformed Tourism Marketing, travel research transformed, the most profound effect that social media has had on the tourism industry to date is the democratization of online reviews. Today's travelers go online to research their future travel destinations and accommodations. In conclusion, the effectiveness of any material shared in the new media depends on the way we use the English language which is the intermediate language for everyone. Through the use of English in memes, abbreviations, tourism sector in social media and more can give great influence to the public if used correctly. It also can contribute to generate income regardless of the business being done in the new media, even more powerful to generate the country's economy. Therefore, new media and English have to go hand-in-hand in order to achieve something to a higher level.

How does language inaccuracy in new media cause communication breakdown?
Written by Muhammad Imran bin Kamsol (2019136893) - MLG1201B
We may begin answering this question by defining the peculiar terms. Language accuracy is one of the key components in second language acquisition and it touches on how precise learners' utilisation of the language system is, including their use of grammar, articulation and terminology (Teaching English, n.d). So, language inaccuracy is the lack of proper use of the language system. What is new media? Professor and new media theorist Lev Manovich designate new media as being native to computers or depend on computers for circulation: websites, human-computer interface, virtual worlds, virtual reality, multimedia, computer games, computer animation, digital video, special effects in cinema and interactive computer installations (What is New media?, n.d). Communication breakdown is defined as failure to exchange information (Collins Dictionary, n.d). Nowadays, a lot of our lives revolves around new media and it has revolutionise our communication with others as new media has a wider reach and we can get immediate response when using it compared to traditional media. However, we also have to alter the manner of interaction to keep up with the adaptation of new media. Thus, it acts as a catalyst for the birth of new internet languages due to the netizens trying to express themselves in a faster and more intimate way to make up for the loss of information that are done through non-verbal communication. Furthermore, the proficiency of internet languages is varying for the masses. Obviously, this will lead to miscommunication since the interpretation of the meaning is different for many people. For instance, the Baby Boomers usually will not understand the emojis and memes used by the Gen Z and it is regarded as nonsense by the Baby Boomers. Netizens also like to use internet slangs and abbreviation to write while using new media. It can lead to language inaccuracy because it does not conform to proper grammar use. Additionally, new learners can not differentiate between proper grammar and internet language so, it can steer them into wrong understanding of English and potentially confuse them when learning the language itself. Finally, it will cause communication breakdown as information failed to exchange due to language inaccuracy.

WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THE ROLES OF LANGUAGE IN NEW MEDIA?
Written by Mohamad Muzhameer Putra bin Rosli (2019176811) – MLG1201B
In my opinion, the roles of language in new media are undeniably important. Language and the new media are like plants and sun. Both of them requires each other. The language is basically the running engine in the new media and this engine, has a bunch of vital roles in the new media.
Firstly, language plays an important part in educational system. For instance, the mobile application, Snapask, which is used by the students to communicate with tutors from all over the world and the informative website, Wikipedia are all run by languages. Language is medium to deliver messages. Thus, if there is no language in new media, how else can these information be delivered?
Language also plays a vital role in entertainment. If you have ever watched your favourite drama or movie, then you must noticed that their subtitles and conversations are delivered to you through languages. Without language, you might only be seeing moving pictures without context.
