Sarah and Retcons

I don't like 'em because of the lack of consistency but clearly they matter enough for her to change things that happened from one story to the next.

Lucien's father was retconned from Beron to Helion which has now changed his entire arcs future trajectory.

Sarah retconned the behavior of Az's shadows. Before they were something Az simply controlled but as of SF they are now sentient. They are afraid of the sun, tend to disappear around Elain, are curious about Gwyn, and sing their own sort of song.

Sarah retconned what happened in Sangravah so that Az would be the one to save Gwyn and Mor then took her to the library.

If Sarah retcons something, you don't get to pull examples from multiple books back to prove a point, i.e. what his shadows did around Elain in book 3, when that information is no longer relevant to the new direction Sarah is taking things. That would be like my trying to prove Lucien is still white because she wrote him as such in book 1.

All that matters now is Lucien is biracial, Az (in his own thoughts which matters more than someone's interpretation elsewhere) confirms his shadows are his companions who will always be there for him then acknowledges they tend to vanish when Elain is around. Shortly after we see Gwyn as the only person who treats the shadows as being separate from Az (similar to Nesta being the first person to treat the House like a person) whereas Elain ignored them in his bonus, we have Az thinking on how they're curious about Gwyn's breath and content to watch her, that they calmed in her presence.

These details matter for the direction Sarah is now heading with these characters. A girl who was always so full of light and wants Sunshine with a mate who is destined to be Heir to Day?

A girl who can sing to the shadows that will always keep Az company?

Most E/riel’s have turned canon Elain into their fanon self insert Elain.

Completely agree. It’s literally the only reason they have such extreme reactions to anyone who says anything even remotely negative about Elain. My favorite thing is they say she is all healed and adjusted and settling into life in Velaris just fine. I almost wonder if they hear themselves talk and actually understand how Sarah’s stories go.

I like the character Sarah has written so far but this fanon version they’ve got going on, no thanks.

Rhys has literally stated that Elain will have the full protection of the Night Court when and if she chooses to reject the bond.

Let’s not pretend that the BROTHER OF THE HIGH LORD and the SISTER OF THE HIGH LADY are going to experience any sort of social repercussions from being together. Who exactly from society is going to ostracize them? Mor? Amren? lol as if they give a fuck.

Nesta needing/wanting/finding her own family with the Valkyries is NOT a rejection of Feyre nor is it a slight to her in any way.

That’s common sense, I fear.

It's literally impossible to get everything you need from one person (or two people, if you factor in Elain).

The Valkyries gave Nesta the acceptance, support and love she needed to start healing.

That doesn't mean she's just forgotten everything Feyre's ever done for her, or that she's ungrateful for it.

Forbidden love is one of the worst tropes for a character like Azriel. He already feels shame. He already feels like a burden. And his supposed fans want him to hide away unable to be loved out in the open like something wrong or shameful? Sorry but that is just sad. Azriel is a character that needs someone who will love him boldly and loudly. He needs someone who will call him on his mistakes and push him to move past his trauma. He needs someone who helps him realize he is perfect as he is. Not someone who makes him feel like he has to change. He needs the love only a mate could give.

Something I would’ve paid to have read is how the high lord’s meeting in ACOWAR would have gone if Lucien was there.

Seeing his mother/family, Helion being there, Nuan speaking about him helping her with the antidote, Tamlin acting a fool, and Eris running his mouth...

Honestly my boy would’ve slayed too hard as a moderator and we wouldn’t have gotten the drama we did. Makes sense why she wrote him out of it

Things I wish Cassian knew about Nesta:

- that she was abused by her grandmother

- that she was groomed to be a child bride by her mother

- that her father never intervened

- that Tomas Mandray attacked her

- that she was robbed by a mercenary

- that she went to the wall for Feyre

- that she protected Feyre from suitors, took a painting lesson with her, and encouraged her to seek love in prythian

- that she paced in the living room and immediately asked about Cassian when they returned from Adriata and Mor shot her down

- that she spent the entirety of the time in the war camp helping including through the rain and through the night

- that she was terrified at the sight of him injured but Mor once again shot her down and pushed her away from Cassian

Would it have been too much trouble to change a smut scene where Cassian runs away while his seed is dribbling out of her for one where they actually have a meaningful conversation about their past lives?
