LOVE AT DOZEN SIGHTS.
the one where ever since you moved into a new neighborhood and began spotting kim namjoon every other morning when you jog, you develop a crush on him that you try so hardly to erase because of one reason: you were sure that he was already a married and certified dilf.
[ crush!namjoon x reader ] 2.2k words. | nc-17 | fluff, neighbors au | warning/s: profanities, suggestive themes, reader is low key embarrassing HSDJHJD, semi-edited bc i only read through the first half lmao ]
You were sure that he was already a father of two or three kids.
It was just the way he carried himself, the way he conversed with other people and talked to them with this smart but not know-it-all tone, using these words and these sentences that sounded so intricately hot; he showed it in the manner in which he merely stood with that insulting buff body of his, in how he chose what to wear for his exercise gear, and the subtle yet warm nod he’d throw at your way in acknowledgment every time you passed by each other in the morning for both of your daily jogs.
You were just very sure that he had a great family to come home to, a stable job to take care of said family, and of course, perhaps a spouse that was undoubtedly getting the best sex of their life whenever said kids weren’t around.
God, the universe must be playing a trick on you for putting you in the same vicinity as Kim Namjoon, also known as the DILF you’ve been thirsting and whining about to your friends the moment you saw him on your first day moving in the neighborhood.
“Just ask him out,” Nayeon told you one time when you were doing the usual fake crying in agony over his marital status. “You don’t even know if he’s really married. You said you’re just assuming he is.”
“I can literally feel it in my bones though.”
“Have you ever seen a ring on one of his fingers?”
“Well, no—”
“Oh my God,” she cut you off, slamming her hands on the table, obviously infuriated, “he doesn’t have a ring on his finger and you’re still positive he’s married?”
“He might just be taking it off whenever he exercises! You get sweaty a lot, you know, and—”
“____,” she didn’t let you finish again, “I checked on Namjoon’s LinkedIn profile—” the guy didn’t have any social media accounts aside from that, which funnily made him hotter— “and if I was married to him, I wouldn’t let him leave the house without a ring on his finger. Ever. If I did, that would mean I’m already filing a divorce the next morning.”
You scowled. “Why would you even hypothetically divorce Namjoon? He’s the kind of man that people would describe as written by women.”
She sighed, returning to her meal. “It’s sad how you’re so into him but so stupid to not just ask if he’s in a relationship or married.”
Damn it. You felt sorry for yourself as well.
“It’s not like that’s an easy thing to do too.” You defended. “Do I just walk up to him and ask if he is?”
“Pretty much, yeah.”
“No fucking way am I going to do that.”
She snickered at your fast response. “Okay, fine—how about friends? Does he have friends that he runs with?”
You began to think. It has only been a month since you moved in and so far, the person you’ve been catching Namjoon jog with occasionally was a man named Kim Seokjin, as what he introduced himself as when you three were stopping by the vending machine to buy a cup of coffee.
He was really attractive too—gorgeous face, gorgeous body, gorgeous personality (if that was even a thing)—but another certified DILF as you have come to know. Only in his case, you were sure because you overheard them speaking about his wife missing her period and Seokjin scheduling an appointment next week with an OB/GYN to accompany her and confirm if she was pregnant.
“Shit.” You frowned. “His friend is a married man.”
“So?”
“So, that must mean—”
“—If you say what I think you’re going to say is, I’m seriously going to strangle—”
“—Namjoon is married.”
Nayeon stood up from her chair and stretched her arms towards your neck.
***
Gasping for air after finishing your last lap of the day, your supposed next intake of breath gets stuck in your throat when the devil himself appeared behind you, looking confused (and handsome) because of your reaction that would have given anyone the impression that you truly were standing in front of somebody like Lucifer considering how horrified you seemed.
You coughed, humiliatingly choking on your own saliva, and Namjoon quickly uncapped the water bottle he conveniently had on his hand to give it over to you.
“I haven’t drank from it,” he said when you hesitated.
You uttered a quick ‘thank you’ and hurriedly took it from his grasp, drinking rapidly to erase that itchy feeling that’s been causing the sudden coughing fit due to the presence of the one man you’ve been trying not to run into for the whole week.
Because yes, you’ve come to the conclusion that in order to get over your silly crush over Namjoon, you just had to avoid him like it was an Olympic sport and you were going for gold.
Initially, you attempted to search any other park nearby that was as big as the one where you constantly saw him in, but that didn’t turn out well because that other park was more or less 30 minutes away and despite your dedication to jog every morning, you still weren’t keen on waking up a few minutes earlier to make sure your day would run as it always have.
And so that led you to resort to jogging at night to be assured that you won’t be bumping into him anytime soon. You didn’t really know which part of the neighborhood he actually lived in, you just knew that it wasn’t along your street, making this tactic of yours quite successful until you started hating the routine for draining you at night, thus throwing you back to your morning jogs.
“Busy week?” he asked as you returned the water bottle to him, only for Namjoon to shake his head and gesture for you to just take it.
You blushed, knowing that you should have figured that you weren’t supposed to hand it back when you already drank a huge portion from the bottle. “Uh, um, kind of, yeah.”
He smiled and when he did, a pair of dimples waved hello, your chest pounding in response. “That figures. I’ve been wondering why I haven’t been seeing you all week.”
Okay, you were either dreaming, hallucinating, or he was just being nice by saying that.
“Yeah, work was… work, you know, work—very busy, and I thought that doing it at night was worth the try.”
“Was it?”
“What was?”
“Jogging at night.”
“Oh—” you need to get a freaking grip of yourself— “sure, it was, but I think I prefer doing it in the morning still.”
“That’s good to hear. Honestly, I was a little devastated to not see you around much.” Namjoon chuckled as he crossed his arms, his biceps, triceps, and whatever muscle there was, bulging.
MAYDAY! MAYDAY! MAYDAY!
“Y-You were—uh—why would, why would you—you were devastated?” You stupidly stammered, obviously taken back.
If you didn’t know better, you would have said that he was flirting with you, which seemed impossible because a) he was married, and b) he was definitely out of your league even if he wasn’t.
He lightly scratched a portion of his cheek. “Well, if you want me to tell you the truth, I’ve been meaning to ask if you wanted to go get brunch sometimes.”
It’s official. You were dreaming right now. Did the alarm not work earlier or something?
“Unless, of course, you don’t want to,” he added when you failed to answer in the first five seconds of his statement, not a trace of nervousness on his face despite it. He really was hot and confident (in a not obnoxious way) at the same time, damn it. “Or wait, do you happen to be already taken? Because I didn’t mean to intrude if you are.”
“I… I’m not dating someone.”
Namjoon smiled, not masking his pleased expression. “Okay. What do you say then?”
You scrunched your forehead, so many emotions rising up inside you, but out of everything, you were just mostly confused. “Wait, uh, let me get this clear. Are you, are you asking me out?”
He nodded. “Yes. Is that okay? I’m not coming off as too straightforward, am I?” He tilted his head.
“But aren’t you married?”
The second you said it, you wanted the heavens to take you and fling you to the stars.
You didn’t mean to say it out loud. It was only like a thought you had at that instance—a thought that unexpectedly escaped from your mouth because you just didn’t understand how an attractive man like him would willingly want to have brunch with you. You weren’t ugly, and you didn’t think that low about yourself, but this was Kim Namjoon, perhaps the guy that all the fucking people in the neighborhood wanted to have, so you just didn’t get why this was happening unless there were hidden cameras everywhere and this was all one nasty prank.
“Married?” he repeated, amused, then he chuckled next, looking like he was trying to formulate his words in a manner you would understand as he pressed lips together. “____… why would you think I’m married?”
“I mean that as a compliment, I swear!” you defended.
“I’m not offended, don’t worry,” he said when he noticed your anxious face. “It’s just that—I don’t understand. I don’t know why you would think such a thing. I don’t remember myself ever mentioning that I’m married, much less in a relationship.”
“Um, it kinda has everything to do with your vibe, really.”
“My vibe?”
“Yeah…” you trailed. “You just seem like you have your life together, like you already have a spouse because you already have a stable job too… or like, you already have a bunch of kids that you’ve taken care of for years and that’s why you’re so full of wisdom.”
“Huh.” He snorted, visibly appearing as if he was imagining the scenarios you laid out. “That’s funny. ‘Cause I hate to break it to you, but I actually don’t know much about life. Well, mostly in its literal sense.”
You found yourself chuckling for no apparent reason. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means I don’t know how to cook, or drive, or… anything that would help me survive on this earth alone.” He chuckled with you. “That doesn’t turn you off, does it?”
You shook your head. “No, no.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.” You smiled. “In fact, find it kinda cute that you’re very much human just like me.”
“Then you’re about to find me absolutely hot if you get to know me better.”
“Brave of you to assume that I already don’t.”
Namjoon raised his eyebrows, smirking, and you realized at that moment what you just said out loud.
You really needed to learn how to control your speech when it came to this man.
“Is that a yes then?” He started again, just as you were contemplating on running away in humiliation of how you were making your crush too obvious. “Are you okay with having a brunch date with me sometimes?”
Your cheeks heated up once more, but this time you were able to act cooler about it. “Sure. Brunch sometimes would be amazing.”
“Okay. Can I get your number so we could schedule it when we’re both available?”
“My number?”
“Yep. Or are you—”
“No, getting my number is fine.”
“Great.” He grinned, and you proceeded on getting your phone, handing it to him so he could input his number in. As he began typing, he decided to speak once again in a nonchalant tone too. “Oh, and I was thinking, you know, maybe after that brunch of ours, you can accompany me as I bring some lunch for my kids at school. I’m sure they’d appreciate some take-out.”
You flashed your gaze from the screen towards his face, cheeks burning even worse than before. Though there was actually a split second wherein you doubted whether he was joking or did he really have kids despite not being married. “Uh, your… your—?”
“I’m kidding, ____.” He grinned, quickly clarifying himself as he called his number with your phone, grabbing his device from his pocket then to check. “There. I have your number in,” he said before looking over to you who was still blushing. “How about we walk together for a few minutes so I can enlighten you about how single I actually am, hm?”
You huffed; you’re a bit shocked to encounter a mischievous side of him. “That was seriously mean.”
“Sorry. I couldn’t help it.” He chuckled. “It’s not every day you find out your crushthinks you’re married.”
“Give me some slack. You really do have a dad and husband vibe about you.” You purposely ignored the word he used so that you wouldn’t freak out much, much, more. “But if it makes you feel better… the reason why I haven’t been hitting on you is because of that.”
“Because you thought I was married?”
“Yep.”
“Wow. I’m glad I got the balls to ask you out today then.”
Who knew you would ever hear the word ‘balls’ in that kind of statement from Namjoon?
You laughed shyly and he brought the grin back on his face. “Shall we?” he gestured to your path forward, a way to ask his request from earlier again, and you nodded, walking beside him as he initiated a new conversation that didn’t make you want to bury yourself to the ground.
Thank God for decent men who weren’t already taken.

Is this fic a bit cheesy and unrealistic? Yes. Do we all just need that sometimes? also yes lol. Hope you’ll enjoy a bit of dad!Joon and leave me some feedback if you can!

Six months. That’s how long it’s been since you signed your name on the dotted line of the divorce papers.
Five months since your middle daughter, HeeJin, who was named after her fathers best friend had her third birthday party, where you and Namjoon had to put on your happy faces and pretend it didn’t hurt to see each other.
Four months since your one year old daughter had her first double ear infection and Namjoon had to meet you at the hospital in the middle of the night. You argued over medical insurance and who’s fault it was that she was sick. You were both in the anger stage of dealing with the grief you felt from the divorce.
Three months since the two of you had to attend your five year old daughters play at her preschool. Both of your families were there and it was the most awkward night of your life, but the happy faces were on in full force once again and you made sure that everything went perfectly.
Two months since you stopped wondering what he was doing every night and whether he missed you as much as you missed him. If he was lying awake and losing sleep over you.
One month since it stopped feeling like there was a hole the size of your heart gaping in your chest. Time truly healed wounds but this one would never fully close. And you know it was all avoidable. It never had to come to this.

imagine it. The night is November 5th, 2024. The election results are in. Misha Collins post a video. The camera is facing him, as he says “I love you.” Then it pans to the other person in the room, Jensen Ackles. He responds with “Kamala Harris is the next present for the United States”

You know what I cannot wait for? The day we have an election and we don’t have to say vote like your life depends on it because it does. This man has seeped into every facet of our lives for almost TEN years. Think about that. With one simple vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz he’s cooked-forever, and we won’t have to deal with that urgency again. We can have real policy debates and make actual progress again, once he is gone for good. So let’s do this thing one last time let’s vote like our lives depend on it and get back a better politic.
