your writing does not have to be outstanding or exceptional. seriously, I read books all the time with just average writing, maybe some of the minor characters are one dimensional and cliched, maybe the dialogue is a little cheesy, maybe the plot is a little shaky, but the characters and their dire situation have hooked me. your story doesnโ€™t have to be 5 stars to be worth writing and sharing and it will find the people who will love it.

Things Real People Do in Dialogue (For Your Next Story)
Okay, letโ€™s be realโ€”dialogue can make or break a scene. You want your characters to sound natural, like actual humans talking, not robots reading a script. So, how do you write dialogue that feels real without it turning into a mess of awkward pauses and โ€œumsโ€? Hereโ€™s a little cheat sheet of what real people actually do when they talk (and you can totally steal these for your next story):
1. People Interrupt Each Other All the Time In real conversations, nobody waits for the perfect moment to speak. We interrupt, cut each other off, and finish each other's sentences. Throw in some overlaps or interruptions in your dialogue to make it feel more dynamic and less like a rehearsed play.
2. They Donโ€™t Always Say What They Mean Real people are masters of dodging. Theyโ€™ll say one thing but mean something totally different (hello, passive-aggressive banter). Or theyโ€™ll just avoid the question entirely. Let your characters be vague, sarcastic, or just plain evasive sometimesโ€”it makes their conversations feel more layered.
3. People Trail Off... We donโ€™t always finish our sentences. Sometimes we just... stop talking because we assume the other person gets what weโ€™re trying to say. Use that in your dialogue! Let a sentence trail off into nothing. It adds realism and shows the comfort (or awkwardness) between characters.
4. Repeating Words Is Normal In real life, people repeat words when theyโ€™re excited, nervous, or trying to make a point. Itโ€™s not a sign of bad writingโ€”itโ€™s how we talk. Let your characters get a little repetitive now and then. It adds a rhythm to their speech that feels more genuine.
5. Fillers Are Your Friends People say "um," "uh," "like," "you know," all the time. Not every character needs to sound polished or poetic. Sprinkle in some filler words where it makes sense, especially if the character is nervous or thinking on their feet.
6. Not Everyone Speaks in Complete Sentences Sometimes, people just throw out fragments instead of complete sentences, especially when emotions are high. Short, choppy dialogue can convey tension or excitement. Instead of saying โ€œI really think we need to talk about this,โ€ try โ€œWe need to talk. Now.โ€
7. Body Language Is Part of the Conversation Real people donโ€™t just communicate with words; they use facial expressions, gestures, and body language. When your characters are talking, think about what theyโ€™re doingโ€”are they fidgeting? Smiling? Crossing their arms? Those little actions can add a lot of subtext to the dialogue without needing extra words.
8. Awkward Silences Are Golden People donโ€™t talk non-stop. Sometimes, they stop mid-conversation to think, or because things just got weird. Donโ€™t be afraid to add a beat of awkward silence, a long pause, or a meaningful look between characters. It can say more than words.
9. People Talk Over Themselves When They're Nervous When weโ€™re anxious, we tend to talk too fast, go back to rephrase what we just said, or add unnecessary details. If your characterโ€™s nervous, let them ramble a bit or correct themselves. Itโ€™s a great way to show their internal state through dialogue.
10. Inside Jokes and Shared History Real people have history. Sometimes they reference something that happened off-page, or they share an inside joke only they get. This makes your dialogue feel lived-in and shows that your characters have a life beyond the scene. Throw in a callback to something earlier, or a joke only two characters understand.
11. No One Explains Everything People leave stuff out. We assume the person weโ€™re talking to knows what weโ€™re talking about, so we skip over background details. Instead of having your character explain everything for the readerโ€™s benefit, let some things go unsaid. Itโ€™ll feel more naturalโ€”and trust your reader to keep up!
12. Characters Have Different Voices Real people donโ€™t all talk the same way. Your characters shouldnโ€™t either! Pay attention to their unique quirksโ€”does one character use slang? Does another speak more formally? Maybe someoneโ€™s always cutting people off while another is super polite. Give them different voices and patterns of speech so their dialogue feels authentic to them.
13. People Change the Subject In real life, conversations donโ€™t always stay on track. People get sidetracked, jump to random topics, or avoid certain subjects altogether. If your characters are uncomfortable or trying to dodge a question, let them awkwardly change the subject or ramble to fill the space.
14. Reactions Arenโ€™t Always Immediate People donโ€™t always respond right away. They pause, they think, they hesitate. Sometimes they donโ€™t know what to say, and that delay can speak volumes. Give your characters a moment to process before they respondโ€”itโ€™ll make the conversation feel more natural.
Important note: Please donโ€™t use all of these tips in one dialogue at once.

"How do you write such realistic dialogue-" I TALK TO MYSELF. I TALK TO MYSELF AND I PRETEND I AM THE ONE SAYING THE LINE. LIKE SANITY IS SLOWLY SLIPPING FROM BETWEEN MY FINGERS WITH EVERY MEASLY WORD THEY TYPE OUT. THAT IS HOW.

Reflection Entry Two: 10/16/2024
Welcome to my cozy little corner of the world, where I share my daily reflections with you. I kindly ask for respect in this space. Feel free to use it for your own reflections as well. Iโ€™d love to build a meaningful community with anyone whoโ€™s willing to join.

There are days when my mind feels like a storm, thoughts crashing violently inside, leaving me restless. And then there are days when the chaos fades, and I feel a calmness that runs deepโ€”a quiet happiness that lets me believe I understand myself better than anyone else. But when the darkness creeps in, I feel like I might implode under its weight. Maybe itโ€™s because Iโ€™m not feeling well, and life feels fragile, fleeting.
I search for meaning in the small things I can still doโ€”reading stories that take me on adventures I canโ€™t live myself, imagining the love I havenโ€™t found, and watching movies that show me different lives than the one I know. Itโ€™s strange how my mind craves more. Iโ€™m not ungrateful, but I still feel trapped sometimes, alone in this sea of thoughts and emotions.
I wish I could organize it all, bring order to the chaos in my head. Maybe then I wouldnโ€™t feel so lost. But for now, Iโ€™ll keep searching, hoping that in these small escapes, I might find something real.

Reflection Entry One: 10/07/2024
Today, I closed the final chapter of a beautiful storyโ€”one written with love and hardship. As I reflected on its pages, I found myself turning inward. The words struck me. Thereโ€™s an unsteadiness in my heart, a quiet fear that I am adrift, not where I imagined Iโ€™d be at this point in life. I love deeply, but something feels missingโ€”an unspoken distance in the love I receive, as if it doesnโ€™t quite match the depth of what I give. Perhaps itโ€™s not only love I seek, but a life that feels fuller, more vibrant, less weighed down by the routine that has grown all to familiar. Part of me longs for a love that transforms, that pulls me from this quiet darkness, a love that feels boundless and alive. I cherish the person in my life, but I fear the stillnessโ€”what if love, as I know it, stays the same and I remain unmoved, longing for more?

โ€Who Am I?โ€
Iโ€™m a passionate reader with a particular soft spot for Paranormal Romance and Fantasyโ€”who can resist a good supernatural love story? Currently, Iโ€™m soaking up the sun in Florida, but my heart dreams of escaping to a land filled with greenery and majestic mountains.
When Iโ€™m not lost in the pages of a book, youโ€™ll find me taking peaceful walks along the beach, where the sound of crashing waves fuels my imagination. I love curling up by the fire with my dog, Wall-e, enjoying the warmth and the crackle of the flames while getting lost in another captivating story.
As for my other obsessions? Iโ€™m a horror aficionadoโ€”letโ€™s chat about that spine-tingling movie you just saw! My music tastes are a mix of rock anthems and the heartfelt tunes of Zach Bryan. And yes, my favorite color is red.
โ€Navigating Lifeโ€
I also want to share that I currently navigate life with Lupus and Epilepsy. These challenges have made me a big part of who I am and Iโ€™m always willing to talk about it with anyone.
โ€Whatโ€™s This Blog About?โ€
This blog serves as my digital diary, a space where I share everything from personal reflections to updates on my latest writing projects. Think of it as an open invitation to peek into my creative world.
