aliceoseman: One month of @heartstopper 🍂 This was the last shot we filmed for the show! It meant a lot to me because this is the street that I used as a real life reference while drawing this page of the comic back in May 2018. We weren’t even going to use Herne Bay initially as it was quite far away from our other locations, but after spending a long time during pre-production searching for the right beach, we eventually decided it was the perfect place - which meant we could use this street for this moment. It was just one of the many many ways the crew of Heartstopper worked so hard to preserve what’s in the comics, and it made me very happy 🌊☀️

I think it’s very powerful what you put on Twitter the other day actually, where you said “apparently some people on here know my sexuality better than I do”, because I just don’t think that anyone on this planet has a right to anyone’s identity on any level. I think that was such a powerful statement to put out there.

First Step

I have been contemplating how to start this blog page’s first post for 2-3 days but I realized that at the end of the day this is just that, a blog. so here’s my first attempt.

Every time I told someone I wanted to be a doctor, their reaction was, “So your aim is to study 12 more years after school” and I always answered confidently that I would, if that means I would become a doctor.

My dad is in the army, so we move from one place to another every two years or so. We all were together in Punjab till March 2020 (the year of COVID-19). But then my dad got posted to Assam, which is a field posting. So, my mom, brother and I moved to Rajasthan to be with my maternal grandparents.

Dad comes here from time to time, using his holidays to be with us but we all still miss him.

So, I was extremely happy when dad called in the last week of March, this year, to tell us he had been posted to Delhi and my mom, brother and I would go with him and stay there. I love moving from one place to another but something about this posting was somewhat more exciting for me.

My last two years of school and my NEET preparation years would be in one of the MOST COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT IN ALL OF INDIA. I will get way more exposure and see where I stand.

We all started looking for schools and coaching. In good schools, admissions had already finished and closed but we were hoping that they will take into account that my dad is in the army and make an exception. (We are still presently calling in schools.)

Then, we started looking for the best coaching institutions. Out of all of them, Aakash Coaching Institute had the best result and my heart was set on going there . We called them and gathered information and were told that a scholarship exam was taking place till 31st March and we set the date. I gave the scholarship exam and got a 80% wavier in the fees for the two years of coaching. I was over the moon.

Mom talked to them about the fees structure (which was extremely expensive before the scholarship) and about which pack I wanted (weekdays or weekend).

As I was sitting beside my mother listening to her talk about all of the NEET statistics and syllabus and everything.

It just hit me all of a sudden. This moment right here just made it official that I was a NEET aspirant and I am going to become a doctor (if I religiously hit the books the next two years).

I just burst out crying, it was all coming together, my DREAM might just come true in two years time. (I know that’s corny but it’s true!)

You have to understand that I have not yet been given the subject forms for class 11th and 12th and I have also not gotten admission into a school in Delhi YET.

This was a BIG DEAL.

This is just the first step.
