I'm not even that emotionally invested in this whole situation rn but i agree "ALSO how come when keith eats the entire menu at michelin star restaurants it's fun and cool but when steven enters a nice restaurant he's a greedy gold-loving millionaire."
Thisssss too! OMG I was sooo irritated by the fake righteousness ppl were displaying - 'oh how terrible of a content creator to eat at expensive restaurants when the rest of us are struggling financially' like that hasn't always been the case and others aren't currently doing that. It's not like Steven's show was said to focus on expensive food anyway??? And people loved tf out of Worth It before, suddenly the premise is problematic? stfu
i'm gonna release all the pent up emotion i have rn and i might disagree with my own logic later but this is what i feel now. i'm not maintagging this so if you see it and hate me for my own opinions that i'm expressing on my own blog, that's on you
it's so unfair that the try guys learn from watcher's (non-)mistake, implement the same idea, punch down on their colleagues/friends, then get praised by fans bc "this is how you do it"
not to mention—and i love me some try guys content, and they make some really impactful stuff—their content is Nowhere Near the caliber of watcher content. i'm not gonna go on about that rn bc i'm sure it's a subjective thing but my god watche/r stuff is so clean compared to t/ry guys
AND IM GONNA SAY IT... i'm so tireddddddd of these big youtube channels incorporating like 20 white people in their cast hejdjdjwhw. that makes me sound like a white hater lmao but In My Asian Opinion when you have ensembles of mostly white youtube comedians it can feel veeeery one note. just a bunch of pals ragging each other on bc they have the same general bkgd and the same sense of humor. i know i'm generalizing. but you cannot tell me that you've watched those big youtube group videos where it's all white ppl vs white ppl with a few poc. and the vibes are simply different are they not??? or is that smthn only poc recognize? like white american voices are the norm in pop media and i dont really care anymore.
and yeah fans are gonna be more trusting of/graceful with the company with two white spearheads than with the company with two poc owners but more specifically with an asian guy who fans falsely paint as the sole descision-maker of the company.
ALSO how come when keith eats the entire menu at michelin star restaurants it's fun and cool but when steven enters a nice restaurant he's a greedy gold-loving millionaire.
like i know why but the reasons are so tired. it's exhausting.
it's literally just youtube content but also it's not. it's the way people disvalue art and creation and it's the way people view/treat poc and it's the way people love making trainwrecks and watching them too and oiuhgahhhhhhggghhhhggHhhHG

Hello your tags on that recent Watcher post were chefs kiss and I feel so bad for the Watcher crew now that they know their fans are selfish and don't care about them as people or their artistic integrity.
(context)
man, like. I don’t know how those guys are supposed to just keep going with their sillier shows and act like so many people watching their shit didn’t just very loudly and publicly announce that they haven’t liked anything since BFU, especially when they left buzzfeed to start watcher in the first place bc they wanted to make the shows they were actually interested in and excited about.
and the number of people who have decided to like, personally harass them and people adjacent to them like sara? the fact that people harangued her when it has nothing to do with her, and then mocked her when she tried to say something? someone literally went through her socials and talked about “she bought this $100 bag how dare she,” like. it’s literally none of their fucking business, that doesn’t come out of production money. I can’t imagine how shane and ryan feel thinking now anything the fans don’t like will splash back on their families and have people digging through any and everything available to justify that harassment. god forbid any of the guys have kids anytime soon, bc these people can’t be trusted not to want to harass them too. not to mention the number of people saying staff should be fired, in a recession, like are you fucking joking.
because they can’t watch their goofy ghost show or puppet show for free. like.
yeah, six dollars can be a lot of money when you’re not making a lot. but it also doesn’t justify treating people like they’re not human and worthy of dignity, just content machines for the good brain chemicals.
I understand people’s relationship with media has changed since both the adoption of social platforms and since we’re living in Interesting times. but now it seems impossible to ignore just how willing they are to ignore the humanity at the center of it as long as they keep getting their content fix.
anyway. I wish the boys the best of luck at the live show. I would just be refunding everyone at this point and taking a fucking break.
thank you for the kind words, though, I appreciate it 🖤
#i gotta say its so funny how much of these ppl act like they're on the moral high ground#while acting like assholes#watcher

I haate to phrase it this way but the immediate thought that comes to mind is "Who do they think they are?" And I don't mean this in an accusing way, I mean genuinely they do not have the status to pull something like this off! They don't have the quantity of content or fanbase or views for this.
If I was Ryan, Shane and Steven right now, I'd be fucking petrified.
I'm sure, based on the last 6 years of consuming their content, that Watcher TV was not pitched as "easy money". I'm even more certain that they never thought in a million years they'd alienate and devastated their hard-earned fan base with the news.
All they needed to do was some fucking research. 5.99 a month is just too much for the vast majority of YouTube consumers to plump on something for so narrow in it's content. As high as the quality is, and as genuinely beloved as the Watcher boys are, it's absolutely fucking absurd to think that charging the same price as a service like fucking CrunchyRoll, is appropriate in any way.
If they'd have set the paywall lower. Like 1.99 a month, I think most people would be happy to support the endeavour, as long as they are financially able too. But 6 whole fucking dollars a month?! Also the Patreon has to go too. You cannot feasibly ask any audience to pay for two services that essentially do the same fucking thing.
It's not necessarily too late to change the price, apologise HARD, kill the Patreon, clarify what they intend to do with Watchers YouTube content, and do some fucking research!?
I'm actually in a position where I could potentially subscribe during the month's where they're uploading content I want to watch, but I think the principle of it just kinda blows, despite the genuinely good place I think/hope it came from.
#watcher#i have not been watching them very much recently so im not as emotionally attached#but it still saddens me#they are getting eaten up and i know that must be tough#they made a huge mistake to hype of the announcement the way they did too

i understand it, but i just don't think it's a good idea and i don't think it'll turn out well. it's pretty sad to see the backlash...
the absolute dogpiling on steven alone and literally saying ryan and shane are being forced by him is so ridiculous though

for some reason i thought you were referring to a poem from one of the later volumes - it had a very similar idea. i completely forgot how early he actually thinks stuff like this.
ichigo is out here saying shit like how can the world go on? does it not know rukia is not here? in the 18th episode and you're telling me they don't end up together??

This is a top five Top Five Beatdown moment. To me. Ryan must have been so delighted to have somebody push back on one of Shane's insane choices for once 😁

He mentioned at the ghost files event that he started off being very placating with the audience submissions, like "ohh yeah maybe that's something!" and then as the shows went on he became very dismissive, like "that shit sucks" (not an actual quote, but this was the gist lol).
I don't know how Shane doesn't burst out laughing every time he sees the ghost evidence photos cause they always make me cackle.

Ghost Files Live - Clearwater
I went :) Various things made the situation kind of annoying for me but the actual show was super fun and I'm glad I went. So I just wanted to note what I can remember, mostly for my own records but also because I know other fans often like to hear about the events they can't attend.
So first, I guess they showed the episode but I missed half of it lmao. It was the final one of the season and it was very funny, but I truly think the audience atmosphere made it much funnier than it would otherwise be. After, the guys came out with Lizzie as the moderator.
- In reference to the ep, they had Shane act out a bidet (Shane Bidet, Ryan joked) and Ryan act out a "titilated KFC". While he was doing the KFC thing, Shane touched his shoulder and Ryan got creepy about it lmao. I think he was saying "Ooh you're touching me, the colonel likes that"?? - I can't remember how it came up but Shane said he does the show basically because he loves us, the audience, and also Ryan is his friend. Ryan was like "so you don't love me...because you said you love them-" and Shane joked how he's just a colleague/co-worker - Lizzie asked what ghost/spooky thing they would've liked to see outside the house they visited in the ep. Shane (I think) was like "let's say it at the same time" and they both said "GNOMES". Shane said he'd have liked to see them all stacked up on top of each other. I would love a compilation of all the times these two simultaneously gave the same answer to a question, just like this. Estes Method:
They did a little performance with the Estes thing. Apparently the theater we were in had a man die in it, so they tried to call out to him. Shane was the mouthpiece for the ghouls and Ryan was the asker - He asked the ghost to say his name and/or the name of the man who died. He was getting nothing after several tries, so used a new tactic - ask while pretending he doesn't care about the answer. He finally got a response, the name Logan (or Locan or smth). - He was asking Logan various things but what I remember is he asked what Logan thinks of the guy in the red light (Shane) to which "Logan" responded "love". So then Ryan asks what he thinks of Ryan - "lost" lmao. - At some point during the convo Shane/Logan says the name Elizabeth and Ryan was like whooaa and pointed to Lizzie who looked a little freaked out. I can't remember but I think at this point Shane/Logan mentioned food or doordash? So when it was over Lizzie said that maybe the ghost is mad they hadn't ordered dinner yet like they usually do lol. They had a portion where they showed evidence submitted by audience members and we voted for the best one. 1) A door opening on it's own after the submitter closed the door. The submitter was recording it cuz they were in the house with other friends who were all noticing the doors and lights opening/closing on their own. 2) The submitter referred to it as an orb but it looked more like a stream of smoke shooting through a hall and up the stairs on a cctv at some apartment. A figure appeared in the mirror as the stream moved. Even Shane was interested in this one. I and most of the audience thought this was very fun/interesting. 3) A picture of a guillotine at a location I'm forgetting (I think the ghoul boys had gone there once) with a green streak of light passing through where a body would fall. This was after the guide had pranked the tourists with the guillotine or something.
I honestly forgot most of the Q&A stuff...but it was fun.
