     amplifier thoughts:

so we now know from seeing the show that the grisha’s amplifiers are melded into their skin and bonded to their own bone. alina’s was to her collarbone, and zoya’s is to her wrist.

zoya’s amplifier came from a tiger, a set of tiger’s teeth that were melded together by one of the durast (i’m gonna headcanon david here because i can), and fixed to her wrist by them.

i headcanon that by fixing them to their bodies, it is meant to be in constant contact, it is meant to be this constant flow of energy and power that amplifies everything the grisha in question was born with. if it was a cuff, it could easily be detached or come loose.

when they do lose their amplifiers (like zoya and alina), it is extremely painful as the amplifier is broken from the bone and pulled from the skin. either by another grisha (juris) or by the force of the three amplifiers coming together (alina). the pain is akin to a badly broken bone, and that is followed by an empty feeling where once the amplifier connected them to something deeper, their connection is now lost. 

zoya’s new amplifier from juris, she used the smallest amount of durast knowledge she had and melded the scales together before she attached it to her wrists in the same fashion as the previous tiger teeth amplifier she once possessed. the scales wrap almost all the way around her wrists, exiting the skin underneath her wrist, wrapping around and entering again just an inch and a half away from the exit area.
