Week 12- Final animated posters
In the first poster, I made the word 'God of the Forest' fall so it felt like Tane Mahuta was dying. Then having the 'die' fall off the page added depth to the word 'die' as I wanted it to have the most impact on the viewer dropping like a dying tree.
In the second poster, I wanted the trees around Tane Mahuta to fade away, like they were all dying around him. This has an impact on my work as the statement I am making is that Kauri die-back surrounding time. The trees fading is telling the story of what will happen in the future.

Week 12- The process of making my posters animated
First taking them into Illustrator to make individual layers so I could then animate them. I found this part the hardest because if I didn't do it right when I put it into After Effects the background would come out black or the layers wouldn't move. Once I got help from my teacher and after many trials and errors my file worked in After Effects.
Once I took it to After Effects because I knew what I wanted to animate it was easy. Having things move at different times. I still wanted there to be a purpose for all the movements though. I kept that in mind while I was playing around.

Week 11 More poster Design
I wanted to try out some different typefaces (Poster Cut Neue Regular) I like the bottom typeface because it has even more of a natural and organic look, without looking too bold like the top one. Also, I have added the brown of the Kuari tree because having it all green started to look too bland.
Also to add more context to posters because I want people to understand what they can do to prevent kauri dieback. Adding it to Maori first I felt was very important to acknowledge the cultural history and beautiful back story of this gentle giant.

Week 11 finding the best colours
Using the colour theme tool I was able to find the best colours to represent the most accurate colours for the Kauri trees.
I wanted to add a different colour other than green, as it started to feel too dull.

The Kauri Project
Love the texture and pattern Natalie Robertson bought in of the bark and then the shadow of the spreading kauri dieback.
'TE WAI O TE KAURI' has inspired me with how the kauri rings look and called them "the blueprint to whakapapa" Whakapapa means to lay flat or lie flat. Also, the chorus she wrote was beautiful but also a powerful way to make people listen. This is something I need to look at for my posters. How clear is the message I'm trying to convey?

Week 9 & 10 Research The Kauri Project
Te Uru Gallery collaborates with a wide range of Artists to produce their own interpretation of kauri trees' cultural, social and historical value. these posters also explain the impact of Kauri dieback.
'Cosmic Tree' by Tessa Laird uses Tane Mahuta as 'The tree of Life sustained ecosystems' I love how she has used Tane Mahuta as a simbel for all Kauri trees. Her words at the end resonated a lot "Unless we can reawaken our ancestral reverence for trees by placing them back at the center, not just the margins of our lives, we may lose them forever."

Week 9
After the notes I got in Week 8's class, I wanted to write some notes and play around with After Effects, like how we did in class. Making the word die fall off the page, or the leaves fall from the tree.

Week 9
I changed the typeface to BD Plakatbau because the other typeface looked structured. This typeface feels more in theme with trees and the outdoors. I like the boldness of this typeface and the texture of the letters.

Work over the break, looking at the next stage of using After Effects to animate my two posters. After watching the videos provided I want to make it simple but thought out to enhance the idea of the posters. I definitely want to show the death of the trees, just figured out the best way to do it being a beginner.
Having the text crumble or disintegrate downwards, to represent the trees dying from dieback. For the 'They keep us alive' poster I could have the leaves fall to show the process of a tree dying as its leaves are the first thing that shows it's starting to die.

Working on my final poster designs
Working on my posters' design took some time and fingering out the number of lines and shapes to use so they didn't overpower the work. Keeping the message clean.
I wanted to know if the word 'Alive' should be in my handwriting or kept in the same typeface. As I looked at it more I realised with the handwriting there was too much going on and it looked too busy.

Week 6 - creating my two posters
The very rough drafts for my final two posters, working out what I wanted to say and the most effective way to say it. I found is easier to get all my ideas out onto paper, then going into InDesign to start refining my ideas. This helped to pick out the good ideas from the bad ones.

Week 5- Research on my poster
The Doc website gave me lots of information on Kauri dieback and how important that people know about it. The website also gave me clarity that I want my final piece to be about the New Zealand forest because I have grown up about the bueaty of it. I want my kids and the next generations to be able to see it.
