Fun fact: Canonically, nobody in the batfam has been called 'baby bird' or 'baby bat'. Apart from Duke. They have always been Duke's nicknames.

it's like 1 am right now but i was up thinking about why DC's character design is more effective than Marvel's and i think i got it
DC's characters are gaudy but in a good way.
I mean characters like Batman and Superman are effective because they have a certain idea they embody and they exaggerate that further. Batman is effective because he appeals to edgy, male audiences, which takes up much of their fanbase, a character which the Avengers lack.
To preface, I will mainly be referencing the MCU and the DCU as opposed to the DCEU (because it's bad) and Marvel comics (because their fandom is mainly movie based [who reads marvel comics? not that dc fans read their own]) and also that is what i have personally been exposed to
Superman's character works better than Captain America's because he can appeal to a wider audience. CA's name and design is very... American to say the least. And it limits him because he doesn't appeal to the other 194 countries of the world whereas Superman can be appreciated regardless of nationality. Now I'm not saying that you can't like him but I myself am not American so i find it funny if i say 'Oh yeah my favourite hero of all time is propaganda of another country'
I am in fact, a DC fan so yes I am biased if that wasn't clear already. Now Wonder Woman is the most popular and/or successful female superhero. Why is that? Her character and armoured design are that of a 'Female Warrior' Mmm yes strong woman, very empowering. However she does feature a very low neckline that often exposes cleavage and a short, impractical skirt. Not very good design, not empowering. Another however though, they are appealing to children who embrace their femininity more innocently. Alternatively, Black Widow is the edgy character (design) of the Avengers and wears a full black bodysuit (Unsurprisingly she is also featured with cleavage, more often than not with women wearing such clothing in film, emphasised by the tight-fitted form of the suit) and that's really it. See, the problem with her design is that's its boring. There's no flashy logo, no accessories like a cape or mask, just a whole lot of nothing. To conclude both actually have bad designs thanks to Men but i guess WW is marginally better because she's Marketable
Speaking of, the main reason and the reason i was getting at was. DC characters are more marketable. Most if not all DC heroes have a unique (or as unique as they can get) logo. The Flash's lightning bolt, the Green Lanterns'... lantern, the list goes on. And its great because you can take any random object and slap a logo on it, suddenly your house is filled with all kinds of merch and DC's pockets are filled with all that revenue. (partially a reason why Spiderman is so great but i already talked about that) Now, when i realised it was The Logos i actually sat there (or laid there, in my bed, because i was up thinking about the dumbest things) trying to remember what icons were associated with each Avenger. I mean yeah... Cap's shield... erm Thor's hammer... wait why are these all just their weapons.
ok im going to go on a tangent because i want to rant (somehow i haven't talked enough).
I just wanted to say, this photo I'm looking at of the MCU Avengers, where's the colour? Where the pizzaz? Hawkeye is severely lacking purple here and Hulk's shorts are looking kinda grey here. As a purple lover i find this extremely offensive. So the MCU is very clearly aimed at a more mature audience so the colours are more dull and modern? im not sure how to describe it. Contrastingly (High contrast even), the Justice League is very bright, the combination of Supes, WW, Flash like so many primary colours man, and also an obsession with green i mean, Green Arrow, Green Lantern(s) and Martian Manhunter like thats enough green to solve deforestation. Also i just realised MM is a green 'monster', Hulk is a green 'monster'. MM's logo is a circled X, the X-men logo is a circled X. Dang, is this why the DCEU hates him, i mean other than the budget demands for a shapeshifting green creature. Okay anyways I got a bit off track, so JL, bright and offensively colourful not to mention their tacky logos but wait, that's why their so good. Their colour palettes and branding just makes them more marketable and easy to recognise. If you find them gaudy, that's the point, you're supposed to recognise them
okay that's enough for me thanks for reading

this might be a bit unwoke of me but i don't get why people are putting DNIs in ao3 fics
like what is supposed to happen if someone does
ao3 doesn't have an algorithm so interactions won't affect what you see
and the whole idea is to use filters or tags to get what you want 'don't like, don't read' so people shouldn't feel the need to complain about seeing something they don't like

Something that definitely happened during Young Justice:
Kon, trying to be angsty: You just don’t understand Rob, I’m a clone, I’ll never be anything other than that!
Tim: Yours not a clone, you’re a test tube baby.
Kon: What?
Tim: You have Superman and Lex Luthor’s DNA, You’re biologically their kid, a clone is the exact copy of one’s DNA.
Kon: …
Kon: IM GONNA GO BALD?!

Guys I'm so brainrotted by Batfam fanfics that i forgot Duke canonically doesn't live at the manor
genuinely not a single thing I've read has followed this
like i only remembered because of this random tweet talking about how he's part of the batfam but isn't actually family
wait im going to rant now
Wait first, I get that it's hard to get into comics and that the only source to get content is a non-canon webtoon that doesn't exactly follow canon. Duke isn't a very popular character so its hard to find accurate or detailed content of him and people aren't interested in the first place. And yeah, it's easier to just put everyone in the same house (Actually, I don't think Dick, Jason and Steph live in the manor either but don't quote me on that.)
Okay now Duke has live parents okay we've been over this, he's not adopted he literally has his own family, that's his whole thing.
I reread Batman and the Signal (for like the billionth time) and yeah, he canonically lives with his cousin Jay, his legal guardian.

But yes, he is basically family to the Batfam like Steph and Babs are. He even attends the mentioned 'Weekly family breakfast'.

Furthermore, much of his character development revolves around his imposter syndrome about being part of the Batfamily.

But that doesn't mean he hasn't lived at the manor at all. After the events of the Robin War he does get taken in by Bruce as a ward (like Dick!!!) and is trained by him. It doesn't actually say when or how he gets put into his cousin's custody but he does make references to Duke being in the Wayne's care.

Now every other comic appearance he's had is very minor and doesn't actually talk about his living circumstances so it is totally plausible that he doesn't have to live at the manor. So basically, not much is going to change about his character just because of where he lives.
I'd say that's the end of the rant but I have one small addition. (I would like to preface this by saying I do not know how the American foster system works.) After he was separated from his parents Batman puts him in the care of Julia Pennyworth and we later find out he has been taken into foster care. But suddenly we find he's now in the custody of a live cousin? A part of Duke's storyline is that he goes through many foster homes as he searches for his parents so i find it confusing that there is suddenly family there for him later in his life and Jay doesn't have a reason to not be there for him.

okay guys thanks for reading and don't feel pressured to change your AUs

heyyyyy do you know the definition of a motif 😁😁😁
its a dominant or recurring idea in an artistic work 😁😁😁
so if you want a character to have a shark motif you put more than just sharp teeth in their design 😁😁😁
especially when half the cast has sharp teeth
if you didn't tell me they were supposed to be shark motifs i wouldn't think anything of them
"thats probably just the artstyle"
"oh there's a motif? of what? a dinosaur, a tiger, an anglerfish SHARP TEETH COULD MEAN ANYTHING
