Day 83: in the Port of Nha Trang, Vietnam. . Until the 19th Century, Nha Trang was a deserted area rich in wildlife such as tigers. After just two decades, In the early 20th Century, Nha Trang underwent a rapid change. . Modern Nha Trang is a city of two parts. One takes the form of a smaller Danang - a bustling Vietnamese city humming with commerce but blessed with access to a beautiful beach. The other is a peaceful Western resort town encompassing several blocks of hotels, tourist shops, bars and international restaurants. . On the day I was able to enjoy more of that bustling Vietnam. I have to say it was the first time for me in this side of the World, and it was a total experience to visit the central market of Nha Trang, Dam Market. Food of all kinds and shapes, that I never tasted; some that I’ll probably never taste. Animals of all types: dried, fried, some even alive like the rats that prowled around the market, very healthy rats I have to say. Overall it was nice to see how other people live in other parts of the world, being submerged in their culture, rather than just spending the day on a resort.

Day 82: at Sea en route to Nha Trang, Vietnam. This was the point in our journey where we turned back on our way to Southampton but taking a much shorter shortcut, the Suez Canal. On the day wearing a combination of a paisley tie and a checked shirt, which I think went well together. .

Day 81: second day in the Port of Hong Kong. . Vivid and vibrant - a visual feast of cultures, since 1 July 1997, Hong Kong has been an autonomous territory of mainland China. A thriving community devoted to business with amazing contrasts, mirrored sky crappers, paddy fields, luxurious shopping malls and colourful streets markets. . The first settlers to Hong Kong are believed to have arrived in the third millennium BC, but for the early part of its history, Hong Kong saw only nomads. Hong Kong primarily consists of Hong Kong Island. Lantau Island, Kowloon Peninsula and the New Territories although Hong Kong encompasses a total of 262 islands in the South China Sea. A visit to Hong Kong Island is a mandatory visit , so having visited Kowloon area on the first day I decided to take the ferry across the harbour to visit some of the most famous sights in Hing Kong. .

With the Queen Elizabeth on my back, Hong Kong 2018. . I was surprised to see the numbers of suit tailors that were in the city, basically on every corner and alleyway, sometimes to the point of even harassing you. It didn’t matter how long were you going to be in the city, 2 days, 1 day, a few hours? They promised to have it ready for you before you left. As tempting as it sounds one needs to be careful about these offers, rip offs happen often. There are many good tailors in Hong Kong, no doubt of that, but speed doesn’t equal quality and a bespoke suit cannot be made in less than 24 hours. Research well If you travel to Hong Kong and plan to have a suit made. Avoid tailors that bombard you with leaflets on the street and remember you will need more than 1 day to have a suit made and more than 1 fitting session for a bespoke suit, sometimes even 3. .

Day 80: In the Port of Hong Kong. Queen Mary 2 spent 2 days in Hong Kong where a sister Cunard ship was berthed alongside us, the Queen Elizabeth (on the front picture). Cunard had also organised for all the Full world voyage passengers travelling on both ships a black tie Gala event at the Kerry Hotel with espectacular views of the city at night. I have to say I was very impressed and felt quite privileged to be at this venue. It turned out to be a very special evening, with lovely food, wine flowing at all times, life music and performances and excellent company.

Day 77: in the Port of Phu My, Vietnam.
Hi chi Minh City is the largest city in Vietnam and is located near the Mekong Delta. Under the name, PreyNokor, it was the main Port of Cambodia, before being annexed in the Vietnamese in the 17th century. Under the name Saigon, it was the capital of the French colony of Cochinchina, and later of the independent estate of South Vietnam from 1954 to 1975. In 1975 Saigon was merged with the surrounding province of Gia Dinh and renamed Ho Chi Minh City after revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh (although the name of Saigon is still widely used). The city has transformed from what was once an impoverished war-devastated peasant society into a modern city with a thriving commercial culture, although they are still not fully recovered and poverty is still an issue.
Pictured is the Thien Hau Temple, a Chinese-style temple of the Chinese goodness Mazu.
