"You honour your agreements, but these people you are dealing with are crooks. They have no honour."
"If you do this, you won't be able to go back. You'll be like me."

"Melitele." Triss muttered under her breath before quickly taking action. "Someone fetch Shani! Love potions shouldn’t touch skin." "No, no!" He waved his hands in front of himself. "I'm... fine... really. I don't feel any differently at all." At this Triss gave him a particularly skeptical look, approached their table and inspected the remains of the potion. Avallac'h was a Ravenclaw through and through, his notes were immaculate, margins filled with annotated improvements to even the most foolproof recipes and so... "By all means it should have worked." She spoke her thoughts aloud. Then it struck Triss exactly why such a well brewed potion wouldn't work. The only thing a love potion couldn't do was emulate true love. Triss was about to speak, to explain, however those pleading, puppy eyes he gave caused her to change her mind and she took mercy on the poor boy. "You're right. You must have made a mistake. I suppose I can give you both an E for effort. But Avallac'h... I suggest you wash that off and don't leave any traces of it anywhere." "Yes, right. Of course. Thank you. Thank you. I'll... take care of this right away." He thanked Triss as though she were the bloody Pope giving him absolution all the while gathering up his satchel and devilish companion to get out as quickly as he could. He had to get away. Had to think. "Meet me after Quidditch practice for that thing we talked about, Ciri. I'll have it sorted by then."
Yes, Triss thought as she watched him bolt like a frightened deer, that boy was absolutely, unequivocally in love with Ciri. "Ciri, you had better keep an eye on that boy." Geralt would not be please.
"Yes, it-" His words died in his throat when he spotted the dark shift out of the corner of his eye and realized it was Fenrir. Fenrir who should very much be in his room right this moment. Before Avallac'h could even react the cat leapt onto the table, crashing into a beaker stand that created a sort of domino effect which struck their mixture. He attempted to catch it, but failed rather spectacularly and he instead found himself covered in the pearlescent potion. It took only a moment for the panic to set in and he quickly took a step back, placing hand over his eyes and very much trying not to look at Ciri as if somehow that might help his predicament. After a moment of dead silence from the rest of the room that awaited his reaction to their amusement - Avallac'h dared to peek between his fingers at Ciri and... nothing? "I... don't actually feel any differently." His shoulders loosed from the tension that had been building and he smiled in relief with a sound like a mix between a laugh and a scoff leaving him, until it stuck him like a bolt. He didn't feel any different. His relieved smile faded just as quickly as it had appeared. They had done everything right and by all means the potion should be emulating infatuation... unless... unless... Oh. Oh.
#starwrittenfates#hogwarts au#Isilira is so disappointed thinking he's immune to potions and her plan won't work#except... that he isn't

Avallac'h returned to his tower lab where he could pour over his papers and his notes on Lara and her bloodline. Her ancestors, her mutations... all of it. He expected that she would indeed become a Witcher. Destiny... he wouldn't call it that exactly. Destiny was a fickle master and he liked to think that this was a choice that she was making. A slap in the face to so called destiny and all it had stolen from them. Amongst the notes he spotted an old painting of Lara that he had kept and long forgotten. Or more... he'd been unable to stand looking at it. It had become too painful and he'd hidden it away. Pushing the notes aside and away from the painting he met her lifeless and unyielding emerald gaze. Yes, damn destiny to the deepest depths of hell. For just a moment he swore he smelled Lara's perfume -even after all this time he remembered it- and in an instance of rare rage he flipped the table over, because still even now he couldn't bear it. Couldn't bear her eyes on him lifeless as they were. It was a mistake to grab the wine and he knew that it was. The last time he found himself at the bottom of a bottle was after Lara had died. He'd since tried not to allow himself to reach such lows again, but it was his fear that drove him to it. He feared that he would live to see that day again. That despite his best efforts he wouldn't be enough. Again. That he would fail Ciri the way he had failed Lara and so he drank so that he could stop feeling just for a little while. Just a little while.
"Is it?" He didn't find the idea all that far fetched thinking back to how Galahad had been with her over dinner. It was clear enough to him that the young knight was interested. And if things progressed Galahad would want to marry her. Inevitable he suspected that she would fall for the knight. Although he couldn't help wondering what it was exactly about scruffy dh'oine that women found so irresistible. "Very well, Zireael." He wouldn't press her on anything tonight. It was important that she sleep on it and make this choice on her own... and she would have ample time as he did not know how long the mutagen would take to get a good grasp on. "Rest and recover your strength. You'll need it."

Media doesn’t want you to know this but if a character doesn’t have a canon birth name and you give them one and write their backstory then they’re your OC now.

//I've managed to get my Hamlet au rolling quite well. I've gotten his 'to be or not to be' for Lara done and a starter posted. I've also realized that Eredin can easily take the place of King Claudius, but I'm still not sure who Ava's Horatio would be.

Open-ish Starter/Short
The full moon spilled into the center of the room, painting the alabaster in a silvery hue. A telescope stand lay tipped over, the lens cracked from the force of a violent landing, parchment rolls scattered haphazardly across the floor having been long forgotten. Outside his tower window the wind howled like the shriek of a grieving ghost.
Leaned against the wall in the darkened corner of the room he lifted his weary head. It was almost too heavy to bear. He did not know how long it had been since he had locked himself away in this tower. How long he'd be in this endless, swirling void. Clocks had become liars and mirrors even worse. A lantern flickering low on the far table gave off a glint against the stone that caught his eye. A piece of the looking glass that he had shattered in the first days and much to his chagrin he caught his reflection. Leaning forward he snatched up the shard and came face to face with himself for the first time in what had seemed like an eternity. His hair was unkempt, face a mess of uneven scruff, cheekbones sharpened by starvation, eyes hollowed from lack of rest. Gaunt and pale he looked like the dead. Squeezing the shard caused rivulets of blood that ran between fingers and much like the dead he felt no pain at the affliction. Much like Lara Dorren, the light of his soul who lay now beneath foreign soil, butchered by human hands. She died for the simple crime of daring to love across races. And he with her. What was left of him now? What was left for him? He tossed away the glass and it landed shattering into even more pieces against the unyielding stone. "Would I were but a spirit, that I might drift to where you are."

Avallac’h’s soliloquy — his “To be or not to be”
To dream… or to wake. That is the torment. Whether ’tis kinder to lie down in grief, And let the bones sink gently into time, Or to claw back light from an uncaring sky, And by defying it—end all.
She loved not me. Not this form, not this name, not this waiting soul. She saw me, aye—but as one sees a statue: Beautiful, cold, unmoving.
What curse is this, to love past death? To love with no echo? I fed her name into the mouths of stars, I stitched her face into the seams of fate— And still, I could not keep her. And now, I curse the stars — If they watched and did nothing.
Is this not enough, Lara? Is this not proof? Will you not rise, even as shadow, To tell me one sweet lie— That you wished it had been me?
I am not what I was. I am what remains. A scholar of loss. A priest of ash.
They tell me: let go. They say: mourn and move. But I say: No.
Love like this is not undone. It is endured. It survives the grave.
Would I were but a spirit, that I might drift to where you are — past stars, past judgment, past time — and be again beside you, far from this rot we once called life.

Scene: The Court of Tir ná Lia, months after Lara's death Avallac’h unraveling under the weight of grief, while King Auberon, ruler of the Aen Elle elves, watches with increasing dread as his protégé slides into madness.
Auberon: You wander like a shade, Avallac’h. Your hair unbound, your tongue like broken glass. You speak to phantoms. You whisper to the void. What would you have me do?
Avallac’h: (laughs bitterly) Call back the dead. Undo the butchery of man. Pluck time from its winding wheel and turn it backward — One moment. One breath.
Auberon: Enough! This is no longer mourning. It is madness.
Avallac’h: Then let me be mad! Let me rot beneath the ruins of reason if it brings her back! Let the world fall, so long as no stone bears her name!
Auberon: Lara is dead!
Avallac’h: Is she? Then why does she speak to me when I sleep? Why do I smell her hair in the folds of my cloak? Why does the moon bleed when I look too long?
Do you not hear her? She weeps behind the stars. She calls to me — She sing in the rivers, in the roots, in the ringing silence of the void.
Auberon: You are unwell. You mix grief with madness and call it prophecy.
Avallac’h: Grief? No, my king. Grief is a season. This is forever.
(He begins pacing, ranting) I see clearer now than ever. The humans are not a mistake — they are a plague. And we, fools that we are, waited — reasoned — while they tore our kin to ribbons. (He stumbles, clutching at his head, breathing ragged)
She should not have died. I had such dreams. A daughter with her laughter… a home beyond time… All gone. All gone.
Auberon: (to his guards, quietly) Watch him. He walks the edge of night. And those who stare too long into loss Often do not return.

Accurate depiction of me as I delve into madness for the Hamlet au:

//I've had time to sit on it and I'm really rethinking my portrayal of Ava after checking out Hamlet (which Ava's actor plays in) and seeing his brilliant and absolutely unhinged Hamlet. I'm very interested in seeing post-Lara's death this scruffy and unhinged Ava. I'm really, really hoping that Sam reprises his role as Ava especially after seeing him in all these new roles he's been cast in. (an unhinged mad scientist in the new Alien to boot) I can really see him as book Ava after he's grown as much as he has. I know a lot of people didn't like it, but I really felt like he brought something special to the character and that he could do it again even better given the chance.

*Little Caranthir didn't answer him right away, wanting to be able to lose himself in the warmth and scent of his dad for a long while. Although there was a storm brewing outside the window, flashing and thundering, that smell of verbena and lemongrass that Avallac'h was so fond of made the little elfling feel safe. When he was ready, Caranthir slowly raised his head and looked at Crevan with his big, trusting eyes.*
“That scared me, daddy.” *He replied quietly and pointed with a tiny finger to the window, behind which it flashed again. He didn't like it, but now he was home, cuddled up with his father, so everything seemed to be fine.*
"Ahh. Well," Avallac'h leaned over and knocked on the marble wall next to the bed. "these walls are very sturdy. The strongest storm in the world won't knock them down. As long as we're in here... we're safe from whatever is out there. There's nothing to worry about." Although his words were logical fear was not and thus he decided that it may be best to change the subject and take the boy's mind off the storm. "What should we have for breakfast? Flat cakes with blueberries, perhaps?"

*In the middle of a very stormy rainy night, little Caranthir was awakened from his sleep when lightning struck outside the window. With a terrified squeal, he jumped out of bed with a blanket clutched in his hand and a stuffed unicorn under his arm. With these two most precious treasures, he ran on his little legs to the next room, where his ‘father’, Avallac'h, slept in the big bed. Caranthir stopped at the threshold, for a moment he seemed as if he hesitated whether he could , or rather whether he should go in there, but when the lightning flashed outside, he didn't hesitate anymore and immediately ran to the bed climbed onto it and hugged his dad tightly. He knew that his dad would protect him and not let him get hurt.*
Avallac'h jolted from his sleep, not having expected the sudden intrusion into his room in the dead of night. Blinking the blur from his eyes he glanced down to find the young boy clinging to him. "What's the matter, Caranthir?" He reached down and gently patted the boy's head to soothe him. He may have lost Lara and his chance at having his own children, but Caranthir had been an unexpected gift to him. A sort of balm to the old wound that had never truly healed over.
