Aphrodite:

Theme would be ‘S&M or M&S’

Hosted in a burlesque house she rented

Drinks would be laced with aphrodisiacs

Oisters anyone?

Playlist has a lot of Charli XCX

Balloons saying ‘consent is cute’

Invites to all the immortal ladies

Shirtless butlers

Artemis:

Full moon party

Tents in the woods

S’mores and hog roast

Fire dancers

Scary stories

Apollo would perform guitar

Drinking games

Guest list: Athena, Hestia, Apollo, Hermes, Hephaestus, Dionysus, Hecate, Persephone and Hades.

Hera:

Masquerade Ball theme

She bought a whole manor and estate for this

A full orchestra

She would check on all her guests constantly

The fine wine would be flowing

Floral arrangements

Guest list consists of everyone except Zeus’ affairs

Ballroom dancing

Demeter:

Dress code is bohemian

Picnic blankets on the grass

Food fresh from the garden

Flower crowns gifted upon arriving

Chamomile tea

She hired an ABBA tribute band

Strawberry picking competition

All of the Dryads, Persephone, Hera, Dionysus and Zeus.

Persephone:

Halloween party hosted in Underworld

She would dress up Cerberus

Banquet table of food

Blood red wine

Indie rock playlist

Let the Thriller dance off commence

Invitations in black wax ceiled envelopes

All of Olympus and the nymphs are invited

Hecate:

Witching hour party

Dress code is black on black

Cocktails served in cauldrons

Stevie Nicks is performing

Everyone’s getting high af

Hungarian dancers

Fireworks

Whoever dares is welcome to come, but guests of honour are Persephone and Hades

Athena:

Dinner party at her private residence

Dress code is academic elegance

Hired a string quartet

Reciting poetry

A quiz judged by herself

Debating at the table

Wine and cheese for dessert

Invites major Olympian gods

do you ever think about the scene in odyssey 4 where menelaus describes how helen figured out that there were Probably Some Greeks in the trojan horse and tried to get them to speak to her by calling out to them in the voices of their wives? because i think about that scene a lot!

helen is a literal demigoddess (daughter of Zeus) but like, not in the way that achilles or sarpedon or aeneas are demigods, where their divine ancestry makes them More Of Themselves. achilles is like… too achilles to even live. he is doomed by the mythic violence of his own personality–too proud, too strong, too full of rage.

but helen’s divinity seems to turn her into a shapeshifter? she’s not just menelaus’ wife, she is the wife of every man in greece. the oath of tyndareus is like, this symbolic marriage pact that makes her every man’s unfaithful wife, every man’s stolen daughter, every man’s lost mother. they ALL project their grief and loss and rage and hope onto her, and she absorbs and reflects it, at least insofar as it gives her a chance at survival. but it’s also one of the major things that isolates her and makes her one of the most hated people in both troy and greece. she is utterly dehumanized by a world that thinks it knows her.

i like to think about helen coming back from troy and just having, like, the BIGGEST identity crisis over what it means to just be Helen–not helen of troy, not helen of sparta, not helen-the-reason-for-the-war, not helen the stolen property, not helen the unfaithful vixen, not the thousands of helens that every achaean soldier and trojan citizen created in their minds and fashioned to be what they needed her to be in order to survive the disaster. just Helen.
