can we just admit that we all lost a bond with someone this year that we wanted to last forever
#My best friend#I'm done being taken for granted#All bc she ordered cinnamon rolls from me and didn't pick them up or pay for them#Then ignored my texts and read them until 10 days later#She hasn't spoken to me ever since and I'm too pissed to talk to her#It's not the first time she has done this to me so yeah maybe she got fed up with me as well

🏵️🕯️💀🕯️🏵️The Ultimate Guide to Set a Day of the Dead Altar and Not Die Trying 🏵️🕯️💀🕯️🏵️
With the offerings, the living welcome those who left them early. Every element of the altar (shrine) has an important spiritual meaning. It is about commemorating death. It’s a party made for the merriment of our deceased loved ones as thanks for coming from so far away to visit us.
When it comes to setting the altar, a key question is: “On what day are the offerings placed?” October 28 marks the arrival of deceased who died tragically. October 30 and 31 are dedicated to children that were not baptized. November 1 celebrates the arrival of those who had exemplary lives, and baptized children (hence why its known as Dia de los angelitos lit. Day of the little angels.). Finally, on November 2, Day of the Dead, all the souls are reunited with their families celebrating and enjoying their welcoming.
A good altar for our deceased must include levels. According to tradition, we have three options to choose from: two, three, and seven levels.
In a two-level altar (the most simple), the first level means heaven and the second one means the earth. The three-level one (intermediate one), the first is heaven, the second is the ground, and the third is purgatory. The seven-level altar (the most elaborate one) symbolizes the steps the deceased must take to reach heaven and rest in peace.
It doesn’t matter how many levels you prefer to use on your altar. It isn’t a full-fledged one without the following elements:
1.- FLOWERS
They are the festive part of the altar. Marigold (cempasúchil) flowers are the best choice, since their vibrant yellow orange color reminds of the sun and life, while their scent attracts the spirits. Baby’s breath is also used on altares, especially the ones dedicated to children because their color symbolizes purity and innocence.
2.- COPAL
It’s a prehispanic element that was offered by mesoamericans to their gods to worship them. It is used to cleanse the altar and ward off evil spirits so our family souls can arrive home safely. Incense is also a good choice.
3.- CANDLES
In older times, ocote (pine tree) wood was used to lit the offerings, but since that is hazardous with so many flammable things around, nowadays candles are used. Its flame means “light, faith and hope”. They guide the souls of the deceased back to their homes and also in their return to the afterworld. In many indigenous communities, each candle represents a dead loved one invited to the ghostly gathering (which means that if you are the black sheep of the family, forget about getting a candle in the family’s altar once you’ve kicked the bucket lol)
4.- WATER
You can’t deny a glass of water if someone asks for it, especially if that someone made a long trip to be with you. Water is one of the most important elements in an altar, since they reflect purity of the soul and the cycle of life. Of course, it also fulfills its basic purpose of quenching the thirst of the deceased.
5.- SALT
Salt is widely known to have purifying purposes in many cultures, and in this case it prevents the soul of the deceased from corrupting in their road trip until next year. Even a pinch of salt is enough.
6.- SUGAR SKULLS
Calaveritas de azúcar come in many sizes, flavors and colors, but at the end, they all mean the same: a skull. It’s some sort of reminder of the final destination of every human being, and also, the acceptance of death as something unavoidable, like “don’t be afraid of death, it will be sweet at the end”.There are not only sugar skulls, but also ones made of chocolate (the first ones to go when the altar is removed) and amaranth seeds (that only healthy people eat lol)
7.- PECKED PAPER
Papel picado brings out a colorful touch to the altar. It’s a kind of paper that is cut many times to make figures, particularly skulls, pumpkins, tombstones and even words related to this holiday. They are used in many colors to decorate the altar and its surroundings, just like balloons to a party. In Mexico you get them already cut in markets, but it is more meaningful to make it yourself.
8.- PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE DECEASED
Just imagine how nice it is to arrive to a party made in your honor, and have your best picture on a table despite not being your birthday. So wonderful! Photographs can be put as they are, with frames, or even a selfie, it doesn’t matter as long as it is a picture that honors the memory of our loved one.
9.- FAVORITE FOODS AND PERSONAL ITEMS OF THE DECEASED
What is a party without gifts, food and drink? All the favorite foods of the deceased are set in altars for their enjoyment in the afterlife. Their most prized personal belongings have an unique place among the other offerings, and why not? Some booze to cheer the souls during their stay in our world and beyond that!
10.- PAN DE MUERTO
This citrusy-tasting sweet roll topped with sugar should always be present at every altar. They all have four “bones” that represent the deceased one and there is normally a baked tear drop on top of the bread to represent goddess Chimalma’s tears for the living and also a skull.
Now that everything is said and done, you only have to enjoy the company of our santos difuntos and give us the time to honor and remember them. Always have in mind that celebrating death once a year doesn’t hurt.

I think Kirishima really struggles with that fact that sometimes people are actively scared of him.
He’s so used to being a Hero, a hulking beacon of protection, that he forgets… Without his costume, without his signature red hair and beaming smile, he’s just a huge man walking down the street in the dark.
#Eijirou Kirishima#Not my baby#Even without his smile he's sunshine#But he could indeed struggle with that and his feelings get hurt#*sniffles*
