Yeh! NFL 2013 season kicks off this Thursday! My picks in the best NFL competition, Nate’s Trans-Canada NFL Football Pool! My week 1 bets! My picks in the best NFL competition, Nate’s Trans-Canada NFL Football Pool!

I truly believe this is the best format out of any NFL picking competitions. The team that I think is going to win the easiest/most sure of I give 16 points to all the way down the team I think will only just win I give 1 point to. You lose the points if you pick wrong. It’s $50 for the year to enter. $50 is given out to the winner with the most points each week and then most of the money is won in the playoffs. All of the entry fee money is put back into this great competition.

The playoff format is great as well. So if you finish 1st after the regular season you get to pick the playoff team that you think will win the Super Bowl, finishing 2nd you get to choose 2nd down to the 12th highest finisher picks 12th. There is also a Pool B for playoffs for the 13th to 24th placed participants but most of the prize money is in the Pool A, the 1st 12 placed participants. I won it the year the New Orleans Saints won Super Bowl XLIV on February 7 2010. Should I give the money back because of the Head Hunting bounty scandal? Well I was never asked to so I didn’t. My Calgary mate Nasty Nate who runs the competition is accepting new participants this year so please let me know myk@mykaussie.com or @MykAussie if you want to join us, $50.

Here are my initial picks for week 1. I'm 90% sure I'll stay with the same teams to win but I may change the points slightly before Sunday as I watch the NFL Network each night and listen to the sports radio shows but I’ve learn that often my initial thoughts can be the best.

My week 1 bets!

I enjoy having a few $3 or $5 bets on the NFL for some added fun and to challenge myself. These are my initial week 1 bets that I asked Gabriel Morency’s opinion on last Friday night.

“@sportsrage you like my NFL bets? Bucs -3 vs horrid Jets, Seahawks -3, Colts -9.5 vs terrible Raiders, Eagles +3.5, Pats -10.5 vs ya Bills?” @MykAussie

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New York Jets. Bucs favoured by 3 points. The Jets are an absolute mess not only at quarterback but also at wide receiver. I like the Jets but think they will only have a few wins all year. The Bucs are predicted to be better this year and even though the game is in New York I think they can win by a touchdown or possibly a lot more. I think I will put a few more dollars on the Bucs.

Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins. Redskins favoured by -3.5. I’m really looking forward to watching the Eagles this year. I’m a huge fan of Chip Kelly the dynamic former coach of the Oregon Ducks and now the Eagles head coach and with a fit Michael Vick at quarterback I think Eagles can be awesome this year. Their defense could again be a concern though. “Bob” RG3 the stud Redskins quarterback will probably play but he hasn’t played at all in the pre-season after his knee operation so he will be “rusty” as they say. Should be a great game but I like the +3.5 for the Eagles and as you can see above I also think they will win.

Update Wed Sept 4. EJ Manuel will be starting at quarterback for the Bills. The line has dropped to -9.5. I wouldn't have placed the bet if I thought EJ Manuel was starting. That said I think Patriots could still win by 10 points or more. From Tues Sept 3. New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills. Patriots -10.5. I think the Bills will be better this year but their top two quarterbacks are out injured this week. E. J Manuel their 1st round draft pick was looking very promising in pre-season until injured, Kevin Kolb who they also bought in from Arizona is out with a concussion so Jeff Tuel a undrafted college quarterback who played at Washington State is apparently starting this week. The Patriots are going to be looking way different on offense as Champ Wes Welker is now at the mighty Denver Broncos, Aaron Hernandez is in jail awaiting trial on a murder charge while star tight end Rob Gronkowski is recovering from another arm surgery and back surgery. This said with a unknown very inexperienced Jeff Tuel starting for the Bills I think Patriots will win easily and cover the 10.5 points.  

Seattle Seahawks at Carolina Panthers. Seahawks favored by 3. Many fans may be worried about Seattle traveling to Carolina from the West Coast but I’m not concerned. They are a great team now and a Super Bowl pick by some NFL experts. Panthers should be a better than last year but I like Seattle winning by more than 3 points.

Oakland Raiders at Indianapolis Colts. Colts favoured by -9.5. Raiders are a mess. At home Colts will probably win by 3 touchdowns or even more.

Super Bowl bets! My 1st Super Bowl novelty prop bet! I'm going for the Patriots more from the heart than the head. At Sportsinteraction.com I placed a bet on the Patriots at -2.5. I also went for the under total which is 54 points. It should be a great Super Bowl. My 1st Super Bowl novelty prop bet is, "How many times will David Tyree's 2008 Super Bowl catch be shown on TV during the game?" I took "Over 1". I liked Jim Romes advice today on this bet. Myk I've been in sports bars watching the Super Bowl and some people laugh at the average commercials just for the hell of laughing. Some are very good though. It really annoys me how so much emphasis is put on the number of Super Bowls a quarterback has won by the media! I firmly believe Peyton is the best quarterback ever and possibly the best player ever in the NFL!

Damn, it's a "team game"! Yeh I know the quarterback is the most important position but come on. There are many other players in the team, offence, defense and special teams thus a team game. I get so sick of much of the media saying things like "Peyton couldn't beat Tom Brady in the playoffs. He only has one Super Bowl win." Again it's a team game. Most NFL players also many times say its a team game and winning the Super Bowl is by far the most important reason they play the great game for. I say rubbish on this! Why are "some/way too many" NFL players in it for themselves, showing off too much after a play, doing as much radio and TV as they can to make a name for themselves and moving from team to team for more money. This annoys me, there is very little loyalty to "their" so called precious team in many cases. Unfortunately, I firmly believe most NFL players consider money as the number 1 reason for the playing the great game, not winning the Super Bowl as they often say! Peyton Manning has one Super Bowl ring. This year proves my point, the Colts were terrible without Peyton Manning. After being here in North America the past 14 years studying the NFL and from everything I have read and watched on TV, I firmly believe Peyton is the best quarterback ever and possibily the best player ever in the NFL! NHL All-Star weekend was here in Ottawa last weekend!

It was a fun time out and about in Ottawa This is funny, good and bad. Washington Capitals Legend Alexander Ovechkin one of the top stars didn't come here to Ottawa. He says "As a suspended player I don't deserve to play in the NHL All-Star game!" Wow! The bad, as one of the top stars I believe it is not good him not supporting the NHL All-Star weekend. With the millions of dollars that he makes it is a commitment he should be made to make. The younger NHL fans really like Alexander and so do I. The Good, yeh he pissed off Gary Bettman the disliked NHL boss. The movie Limitless. NZT and how to achieve it 100% naturally!

Updated Tues Mar 22. What a fantastic movie Limitless is! Brilliant! I'm going to explain how to get the effects of the drug NZT close to 100% but naturally. I'm not there yet, I truelly believe some people are there.

Does this sound interesting? Well yes of course, most of us would love to be like Bradley Cooper but naturally.

First of all I'm going to state that cocaine helps people in thinking, career advancement, making money, confidence but in the end it gets many people.  Cocaine is crap! There is no drug like NZT that won't in the end damn well kill you! So stop searching for it, thinking about it.

Getting to a NZT level the natural way! It takes work but, Wow!

Seeing I'm all upside down and back to front here in Canada I'll start backwards and start with the T in NZT. T is for Tennis! Tennis you ask? Yes Tennis. To be excellent at Tennis you need to 2) Be very fit. b) Be strong c) Have great concentration.

Thus here's my my rant on getting fit and strong. Run, run, run I say! Running relieves stress and clears the head. Thus the start of thinking brilliant thoughts and creating ideas.

You got to have great strength and endurance in your muscles to be great at tennis. Get in the gym, push weights. Doing weights also relieves stress and increases self confidence. I feel fantastic after a gym session and shower. This is the 2nd part of the T and a very important area of achieving greatness. A great example here is Cris angel. The guy is brilliant and he is amazingly strong. He knows that being strong helps his stunt and magician work.

You also need great concentration to excel in tennis. Having a clear head with no worries as explained in "Z" below will really help in becoming great at tennis. Another reason I said T is for Tennis is because I luv playing tennis. I played many days in Australia when I wasn't playing or training for Australian Rules Football.

Once this is done in combination with the N and T as above and meditation I've been told you can be on your way to amazing things. Thinking ahead of your competition, getting guidance from any good spirit, a higher power etc etc. Some people will refer to you having a guardian angel but I'm still not sure on this. The bad spirits out there are Aholes, trust me on this I can comment here.

Personally I've had way to many coincidenses to not believe that good spirits or a higher power is helping. Hey someone out there reading this or good spirits can you get into Adam Sandlers ear and tell him about my Sports, Comedy movie/documentary! I know he will luv it and take me on. Can you annoy Jerry Seinfeld while you're at it, tell him as well!
