What a wild J2 weekend

This post was written from my grave. I’m probably never going to recover from JIBCon 2017

First they flew to Rome together (okay that’s obviously expected but it’s always nice to know)

Opening ceremony: already a J2 hug (2:07 in the vid) and casually resting their arms on each other’s shoulder like a cute couple (1:31 and 4:53)

Talking again about the time they were mistaken for a couple when they asked for a room just for a few hours back in season 1 (end of part 1 and beginning of part 2) (I wonder what Jensen’s thinking about there; he’s reminiscing, judging by the way his eyes move but at the end…I don’t know, there’s something there (or maybe he just was really tired, Idk)) (gif)

(I’m probably reading too much into it, this is just an impression, but when Jared talks about Heart, before Jensen goes all sarcastic, he’s like ‘Season two?’ and there’s this brief moment where he stares at Jared and now the video is a little shaky but it’s like he’s sad and bewildered and can’t believe that Jared has to go back to season 2 to find something that he was proud of. But I don’t know, it’s maybe just me.)

Jensen once again praising Jared for his performance as Lucifer in The End and Jared being all shy about it and patting Jensen to thank him (9:07 into part 1)

Their beautiful, proud answer to the fan asking about their friendship (Jared: “I love being able to experience this cool life with somebody.” Jensen: “It’s a real connection with another human being that is rare and it’s cool and great and I’m glad that he’s in my life”) (+ bonus point for Jared patting Jensen’s chest several times) (gif, Jared’s entire answer, Jensen’s entire answer)

(Jensen kinda stares at Jared while the latter is taking his jacket off but the video doesn’t enable us to see his expression so I don’t know (11:30 into part 2))

Some more secret conversation (12:49 into part 2)

“Hey Jared. Come here and sing something for me.” and this whole moment where Jensen plays the guitar (Free Falling, I think it is?) while waiting for his boy to sing with a look of pure adoration and gentleness in his eyes

Jared casually pressing the “Surprise” card on Jensen’s crotch while Jensen just continues to smile and play, without even flinching (gif)

That little moment at the end, when Jensen plays another melody (after a “Hey Jared”, of course) to get Jared to sing. It’s obviously a special song for the both of them (after very thorough investigation, my money is definitely on Sweet Home Alabama), just look at how emotional and focused Jared gets when he hears the first notes

Jared keeps staring at Jensen loooong after he’s finished talking (6-7 seconds, that’s a long stare)

a bit of a transcript from minncon of the moment j2 talk about their relationship

fan:  in the 12 almost 13 years you’ve worked together, when did you start thinking of each other as brothers in real life jared: tomorrow jensen: yeah we’ll get there eventually

(that’s a PSA to hets to stop calling j2 brothers, when they do it it’s fine cos they then chose to use those words, they have their reasons to, but you don’t get to call them brothers, they’re not)

jensen: i knew pretty instantly that we were gonna be friends, that we’ll get along and be buddies, i think when i first got the idea that this was gonna be a a really solid relationship was the first time we got into a fight, the one time we got into a fight  

jared : that’s really funny because i was gonna say the first time we got into a fight against other people…. so yeah, when you see something tested and i’ll say this to people in relationships sometimes you know someone’s fighting with their girlfriend boyfriend or husband or wife. you know what? these are the moments where you figure out if it’s worth it or not because you’re gonna have struggles you’re gonna have time that suck, is it worth to carry on, do you want to carry on? i remember the fight we got in…

jensen: not a physical fight, we got into a very heated argument and it was in front of the crew and it ended with us kinda walking our separate ways but it was the aftermath that really defined… jared: you walked into the workout trailer jensen: right and i sat down and basically said “look that cant happen ever again” and we just kind right then were like *indistinct mumbling i don’t understand lol sorry* and it’s been 12 years since then

(j2 truly are relationship goals T-T they’ve been together for 12 years and got through the most difficult times and it only brought them closer, their love is worth fighting for)

jared: *telling the story about when j2 and a friend got jumped by several guys after work during season 1 and jensen grabbed jared by his shirt and told him to go and that’s when he knew they will really get along* jensen came back to make sure his boy is alright and i was like it’s cool

I can’t get enough of the tiny moment before Jensen realises he’s supposed to pull away. When he’s just relaxed and easy and it’s all normal, and his eyes flick up to Jared’s and back down to his mouth.

I can’t get enough of the way he holds onto Jared’s hand as he turns to go, and the way he can’t stop smiling, can’t stop staring after him.

So, I was at JIB Con

I’m emerging from obscurity briefly to share my experiences from Jib. I had booked the tickets back in July last year, and had no idea I would be leaving the fandom before the event. Despite my lack of enthusiasm, I decided to go ahead and attend the con anyway - there were, after all, a lot of people I wanted to meet, and the prospect of hugging J2 was still very appealing to me. Prepare yourself - this story is going to take a while to tell, and it’s going to be very subjective. I’m recounting my experience rather than listing observations. 

We landed on Friday afternoon, and most of our evening was spent meeting my online friends. Beers were downed, laughs were had, and then… grave news were heard. Supposedly con-goers wouldn’t be allowed to talk with the guests aside from a “hi” and a “bye.” We despaired over the change of rules - many of us had things we wanted to say during the autograph sessions. Luckily this would turn out to be a rule only for the photo-ops, as we discovered on the next day. 

Saturday 

The morning started with all of the guests taking the stage and welcoming us fans to the event. I couldn’t refrain from smiling as I saw J2 again! It hadn’t been long since I left the fandom and stopped keeping tabs on them, but it felt like I hadn’t seen them in a lifetime. They looked well-rested and happy to be there. I stuck around at the panel room to view David’s panel - he elicited a good amount of chuckles out of me with his jokes, but I couldn’t stay for the whole duration as there was a Jensen photo-op to be had.

What are ya'll top 6 J2 tinhat moments of 2015? That would prove they are a couple?

I think we’ve done this a time or two, but doesn’t hurt to do it again, right?  

Off the top of my head, top 6 from 2015 (in no particular order):

1. Holding hands at Minncon

2.  Father’s day spent together with the kids (+ “my boy”)

3.  Vacationing together

4.  Jensen’s despair when Jared had to leave the con circuit because of “exhaustion”

5.  Jared’s numerous tbt posts being 90% Jensen (and sometimes conveniently including holiday wishes, as couples are want to do)

6. This.

Hi! Thank you for your awesome awesome blog ! Visiting it is like getting a shot of dopamine straight to the brain everytime (if that even makes sense). Wanted to ask, I don’t know if you have it/have seen it, but I was thinking about a video or gif of J2 I saw some time ago… one where Jared is standing besides Jensen and seems to KEEP WANTING to put his arm/hand on Jensen’s shoulder but he doesn’t ever actually touch Jensen. He almost goes for it like 4 or 5 times I think. Wanted to find it again but haven’t been able to for now. Does it ring a bell ? :) much love !!

There are a literal TRILLION examples that would meet your criteria, because Jared (bless his twitterpated heart) cannot seem to go for a single minute without either visibly fighting against his overpowering need to be touching Jensen or forgoing the fight altogether and just blatantly doing it. 🥰

What an adorable, tactile hubby, though.

Like…in every possible way and at every possible opportunity.

Can you share some thoughts about the sociological aspect of rpf? I was going through your j2 tags and you had mentioned this on one of the posts 🙈 (on the post which mentioned there are so many diverse j2 fics and how they have managed to instill such loyalty in fans)

glad you're enjoying my tags!! just to get this out of the way for anyone reading this, i'm not a tinhat but i do read my fair share of j2 fic.

i'll admit i have no memory of what i was thinking about when i made that post, but something that's always fascinated me about j2 is how quickly a fandom latched on to them, and how enduring that fandom has been-- there are j2 fanfic authors who have been writing for them for 16 years with no sign of stopping. i have my own guesses as to why they inspire such dogged loyalty, which is primarily the insane chemistry that the showrunners, network heads, wincest fans, and jensen and jared themselves have acknowledged for years, and it doesn't hurt that they're objectively attractive dudes who have always cultivated and profited off of allowing fans to feel close with them through conventions and engaging with fandom. prime examples are starring in those hillywood parodies, being some of the first celebrities to join twitter, sharing stories about reading wincest fic, etcetera, etcetera. the j2 ship is truly a moment in fandom history. it could not have happened with two other actors. 

you’ve got other huge rpf pairings, like domlijah, but the sheer staying power of j2 is freaking wild.

the breadth of the fanworks are wild to me as well! my knowledge of rpf is very limited because j2 is the only kind i've ever read, but i'm pretty sure hockey rpf is the most popular genre (correct me if i'm wrong). there are 29k+ hockey rpf fics on ao3, and there are 15k+ j2 fics on ao3-- taking into account the fact that hockey rpf is a fandom tag while j2 is just a ship tag, that's not a huge gap! and it's not considering the mountains of fic that was left on livejournal or other archives and never ported over. that's insane. j2 fics invented a porn genre that's thriving on various original erotica retailers. the fandom has been around long enough that there’s different eras of j2 fic, with identifiable tropes and characterizations for jared and jensen across the years, popular portrayals and trends... it blows my fucking mind, hahaha.

in general, supernatural fandom is wild. this fandom has been around through three presidents, two of whom served consecutive terms, and has completely changed the landscape of how fandom functions (the invention of ao3 was spearheaded by a wincest shipper!!! one of the very first big bang challenges was the wincest and j2 one!!!!) it’s awesome and it’s something to be proud of, imo, whether you agree with rpf/incest shipping or not.

Who do you think is the author of "Speak the Truth"?

IMO at least, the author was a fan of the show, one who had been in the fandom some time after it happened, someone who had seen most of everything unfold in front of them and someone who knew the ins and the coming and goings of the industry and how PR worked. They like they said ''had a librarian mind'' and documented and collected everything that happened and then put it together for them, and fans who would come after they had left the fandom. I and so many others are so grateful to them for putting this archive together, it is a highly detailed archive of mostly everything that happened as SPN started till 2013. It's J2 history, because believe it or not, like it or not, these things happened and there was a reason as to why.

This is J2 history, a line of events that show just how the world works, how the people who are in charge play the cards that benefit them and them only, and what J2 have been through, and what they did. The author is definitely a fan but with knowledge of what went on and how the people behind the screens operate. And definitely a librarian <333

Imagine, if you will, that it is 2015.

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki share at a Supernatural convention that they used to share a "double banger" trailer in season one– but the crew decided they had to be given their own for unspecified reasons –the tinhats go insane! tumblr crashes! the supernatural fandom breaks twitter with all of their speculation! Infighting about the ~implications~ is rampant! J2 fics FLOOD into Ao3! it all goes down as the most famous moment in Supernatural history.....

...except none of this happens, because j2 announced this at a convention IN 2025. FIVE YEARS AFTER SUPERNATURAL FINISHED AND TEN YEARS AFTER THIS EVENT HAD THE POTENTIAL TO SHAKE THE GLOBE. because most of the tinhats are dead, supernatural is only just still relevant somehow, jackles + jarpad all but make out on stage these days and gay jokes about each other and the world are simply par for the course. Insanity.
