Colleen Farrington (American, Aug. 5, 1936 - Oct. 12, 2015). Centerfold model for Playboy magazine, September 1957.
Engraved frontispiece to Actorum chymicorum homiensium (Acts of the Mortal Alchemists) by Urban Hjärne (Swedish, 1641-1724), written in 1712. Taken from a printing of the manuscript circa 1740s-1760s. Artist unknown.
Photograph of Colleen Farrington by Peter Basch (American, born in Germany, Sep. 23, 1921 - Mar. 15, 2004).
More about the engraving
The engraving depicts the mother goddess Diana of Ephesus (a syncretic expression of the Hellenic deity Artemis) integrated into a tower-like athanor, the ideal, self-fueling furnace that alchemists strove to develop, capable of maintaining the constant and consistent heat they believed necessary for the transmutation of elements.
Diana’s inclusion is intended to assert a continuity of alchemical knowledge with the philosophies and magical practices of the ancient world.

About Saint Justus of Beauvais
Per Wikipedia
After he was beheaded, Justus' body then picked up the severed head and continued to speak.[2] Justus is thus one of the legendary cephalophores, the saintly "head-carriers" who miraculously continued to speak or move despite being decapitated. This legend was elaborated in subsequent centuries and stated that the headless boy managed to convert pagan onlookers.

Bunny (Linnea Eleanor) Yeager (American, March 13, 1929 - May 25, 2014). Self-Portrait.
The Corpses of the De Witt Brothers, circa 1673 - 1675. Jan de Baen (Dutch, Feb. 20, 1633 - Mar. 8, 1702).
Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam
The painting depicts the nude, mutilated bodies of Johan and Cornelis de Witt after they were murdered by a mob in The Hague in 1672.
The de Witts were Dutch statesmen opposed the royal hegemony of William of Orange. They reached their peak power early in a period of extreme military, economic, and diplomatic turbulence, which saw Netherlands’ decline in European influence.
1672 is known as the Rampjaar (disaster year), when political chaos culminated in the de Witts’ lynching by Orangists. It has long been claimed that some in the mob annibalized parts of their bodies.
de Baen probably completed his painting no more than four years after these events. Partly due to its shockingly realistic brutality, the painting’s acquisition by the Rijksmuseum in 1802, and the eventual decision to exhibit it publicly, caused some controversy.
