Make Me Love You
Dear DPT, I voted for you in 2008. My spirits soared high with your promises. Your ideals made me influence my whole family to fly with you. And with that my whole village voted for you. I don't feel the same about you any more. No I haven't changed. But you have. Over the years, your actions have made it very easy for me to not like you. I prayed that you would steer out of the rut, and make me like you again. But you have failed miserably. Everyday you continue into the rut with your selfish zeal. And with that you have dragged our great nation into shame. During times of change in 2008, the familiar faces in your top leadership were highly comforting. They were hand-picked and groomed by K4 over decades, and given permission to stand as the democratically elected government of Bhutan by K5. Yet, in this short span of an elected term, how they have changed. And with that how the DPT has taken a spot in our oral folklore as the party that betrayed. I have tried to like you, but you make it so hard. You have lost my confidence. I am not voting for you in 2013. Me.

GNH Ambassador
Thoughts about the GNH ambassador makes me NOT want to think about GNH. The thought stresses me, and makes me uncomfortable. Why him I ask? Do we even need one I ask myself. Because each and every citizen of Bhutan is a GNH ambassador. For Life. Does he make you happy?

Minister's Mistress
This is in connection with the story of the RAPA dancers being misused by the Home and Agriculture Ministries which appeared on Kuensel online forum. I have a similar story to share, of a distant relative who was lured by the dreams of singing and dancing to fame. A village beauty blessed with a unique voice, RAPA was a dream come true for Pema (name changed). Pema quickly became the best performer in her group. Besides performing for national events such as the National Day, she also visited places like Japan, France, UK and the US. If I am not mistaken, from her pictures, I think she also performed at the Smithsonian Institute. All these fame also brought unnecessary attention. And before she knew what was happening, she was seeing Lyonpo Khandu Wangchuk (LKW). She was "seeing" him because his sweet words and presents made the innocent village girl fall madly in love with the distinguished gentleman. For 3 years they had a torrid affair. She looked forward for LKW's tours, both within the country and foreign. She was most happy about the foreign trips where RAPA was also a part of the delegation as LKW. It was these foreign trips that LKW appeared relaxed. He let her sleep in his room for the whole night. Back home it was usually a late night visit at her flat, or a quick call-on in a dzongkhag guesthouse. After the third year Pema realized that the gentleman was not distinguished as he appeared to be. He wouldn't even help her find admission to schools for her siblings. And he made his Nu.700 a month "stipend" seem like a million. His jealousy was what really scared Pema. He couldn't bear the thought of other distinguished gentlemen leaching at her, that at one point, he even asked her to quit RAPA. He promised her a job in BDFC. But just like his previous empty promises, she was embarrassingly turned away after the MD tried to sleep with her. He never really hit her, but his sharp tongue bit her like a snake, and the biting became a daily affair by the end of third year. That was the time that Pema realized her time was up. LKW had discovered another RAPA girl just like her. Only a few years younger, and educated till class 10. Pema is now 33and back in the village. She was lucky enough to find an older man who took her as his wife. They are expecting their second child. It seems that nothing has changed. People in power are still exploiting RAPA girls.

Shameful Politicians
Whenever important decisions are taken, we never pay attention - only complain later on. Take for example the Tobacco Control Act of 2010. Now the politicians want power over kidu land - I thinks thats going too far! Am deeply concerned. I hope this time we are not going to just sit back and allow this to happen. Politicians: for years on His Majesty the King entrusted them with great power. Now they want to give kidu land. Very shameful!

Vegetable Shopping
Going to Sabjibazar to stock up for the week. Have to remember to buy more than usual - the rain might wash off our highways. Then no veggies next weekend to buy.

Worried in Bhutan
Germany is playing Greece in 45 mins. But my mind is not on that otherwise mouth-watering game. There are pressing matters on my mind, and thats why here I am, quickly creating this tumblog. Strange things are happening in my country. And its still stranger that no one seems to be talking about it. Just confirms my suspecion that a lot of people are involved. A lot of important people at that. Thats why everybody is too scared to talk. If people are too scared to talk, consquiences must be dire. I hope my ass wont be kicked for thinking out loud. Wish me luck!!!
