imagine you’re connie kendall and you get fired from a job that has kind of become a 2nd home to you and it’s emotionally fraught because your boss is like your new father figure and you’re so sad about it. but you pick yourself up and go work at a summer camp where one of the most well-behaved girls you’ve ever met decides to go rogue on you and you’re the one who has to send her home so now she hates you. and then you come home and decide to pick yourself up again and go see if you can make amends with your boss but you get there and your coworker who got fired for the exact same reason as you is already working there again and is being really cagey about it, which sucks. and the girl you sent home is there too and she’s yelling at you in public in front of a cute new guy. and then your boss gets there and acts really cagey about rehiring your coworker and doesn’t offer the same thing to you. and this whole time the only person who’s been nice to you is said cute new guy who seems to like it when you dunk on him, and, knowing nothing about you except that you got fired from your old job under contentious circumstances and that this random 14-year-old thinks you suck, he offers you a shiny new job away from everyone who suddenly hates you now
