Shapps 'Determined' UK Will ProtectÂ
Trade Route in the Red Sea Top News
The defence secretary said 'almost no price' is too high to back Ukraine, and that defence spending needs to by 3 percent of GDP or higher.
The Red Sea can't be allowed to become a "no-go area" for cargo ships, Defence Secretary Grant Shapps said.
The remarks came after British and U.S. warships shot down drones launched by Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Economists have warned that a chokehold of one of the world's busiest shipping routes could send another inflationary shockwave across the globe.
In an interview with The Times of London, Mr. Shapps said the UK has to remain committed to protecting shipping routes.
"We are committed to protecting British interests [in the Gulf]—vessels sailing under a UK flag, or with British sailors or carrying goods destined for our shores, the defence secretary said.

Home Secretary James Cleverly apologises for 'ironic joke' about spiking wife's drink
By Ione Wells
Political correspondent
Home Secretary James Cleverly has apologised for making an "ironic joke" about spiking his wife's drink at a Downing Street reception.
He reportedly said the ideal spouse was "someone who is always mildly sedated so she can never realise there are better men out there".
According to the Sunday Mirror, he also mentioned Rohypnol - a so-called "date rape" drug.
Senior Labour party figures have described the comments as "appalling".
Shadow home secretary Yvette Cooper said spiking - putting alcohol or drugs in someone's drink or body without their consent - was a "disturbing and serious crime which is having a devastating impact on young women's lives".
"It is truly unbelievable that the home secretary made such appalling jokes on the very same day the government announced a new policy on spiking," she added.
And charity Women's Aid said political leaders were relied upon to "take action to end violence against women and girls, and the misogyny that underpins it".
"It is vital that spiking survivors see ministers treating the subject seriously and not downplaying the reality so many women face," it said on X.

Dark Circles and Eye Bags - Why they occur and Holistic remedies
Dark circles and eye bags can result from various factors, including genetics, aging, lack of sleep, and lifestyle choices. To address these concerns holistically, consider incorporating the following remedies into your routine:
1. Adequate Sleep Ensure you get 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night. Lack of sleep can lead to poor circulation and increased prominence of dark circles.
2. Hydration Drink plenty of water to keep your body and skin hydrated. Dehydration can make the under-eye area appear sunken and emphasize dark circles.
3. Healthy Diet.Consume a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals. Include foods high in antioxidants, like fruits and vegetables, to promote skin health.
4. Cold Compress: Apply a cold compress to the eyes to reduce puffiness and constrict blood vessels. This can temporarily alleviate the appearance of dark circles and eye bags.
