One thing I'm really enjoying while writing "Matters of the Heart" is exploring how Luffy would react to being put in a terrible situation in a modern setting.

I feel like I've always been putting Law through the wringer, and that's fair, and I love writing Law persevering through the "horrors", but Luffy? Bright, sunshine boy Luffy who is so selfishly unselfish and punches his way to victory and doesn't give up even in the face of death, being utterly unable to do that in a modern AU?

Facing the powerlessness and helplessness of real life limitations and systems that never work in the individuals favor, and still somehow soldiering on even though he feels like he's falling apart.

Luffy is so creative in canon, his gut feeling never leading him astray, and I think he would think up unique ways to try to crawl out of the dark pits of despair in a modern AU by stubbornly trying, and trying, and trying, but what if it's not enough? What then?

Anyway, I think it's really interesting and I'm really loving diving into it.
