Today I started my interview with Lucile Packard Children's Hospital to help benefit families that are/would be facing their child's death, usually through cancer or a very severe/rare illness. I was brave and spoke with so much pride and joy about my beloved Ariyah. But as I am laying here in bed thinking about the rest of the interview (which will start to focus on her actually passing away), my heart starts to wrench up. There are no words at all to explain how I felt when my daughter died in my arms and there was not a single thing I could do to save her. I was optimistic the entire time and believed in miracles. I quit my job, I moved to the bay area for 6 months, and after meeting her baby sister for 2 months, Ariyah passed away and my family fell apart. From there, I was alone and coped with huge losses. I didn't just lose my daughter, I lost my family, I lost sight of my perfect wedding after over 8 years and 3 children.. and I lost my step children of 8 years who still call me "Mommy Amy" until this day. As much as I've lost, I've learned. My daughter taught me how to keep my head up and stay strong. No matter how ill she was coping with the side effects of chemo, needle pokes and immobility. She continued to fight and believe it or not, she never lost. She won because she continued to love and fought until her very last breath. I wish to continue to stay strong because if a little 1 year old could for, anyone can. No excuses.
