Buffy ReWatchith: My Thoughts and comments...
edition: When She was Bad
The Season Two premiere.
The season about the dynamic of romantic love , adolescence, and sacrafice.
Tumblr media
Xander holding an ice cream cone is with Willow and they play Guess the Movie line one California summer night. The ice cream nose scene is touching and Xander impressively defends Willow against the vampire attack. Knowing the outcome of this event the scene is still easy to get swept up in.
Buffy's dad appears to be a different actor then season one. This is the last time we see Hank Summers. Perhaps, because of the distance he felt between them. Kind of makes you wonder why Joyce never tells Hank about Buffy's chosen Life after Buffy comes out. It also seems all the more puzzling considering she disappears for three months and gets kicked out of school.
Synder hates the first day back and Jenny Calender had a good time at Burning Man.
Tumblr media
Buffy begins her training while hullicinating an image of The Master. Strange: Giles never replaces her training figure.
Shortly after, Buffy has a very realistic and horrifying dream of being attacked by Giles/The Master, then chases Angel away. Angel whom didn't come for a social visit but just sit in her window and stared at her sleeping.
Tumblr media
🎶It doesnt matter what I want it doesnt matter what I need 🎶
Chibo Motto can clog dance?
I must say I have found memories of my uncle playing me their song Sugar Water when I was eleven years old.
At the Bronze, Willow shares concern for Buffy. Meanwhile. Xander is completely hormone oblivious, which is pretty heart breaking when Willow intentionally dips her nose of icecream.
Tumblr media
I think this song inspires me to enjoy this scene much more than if another band had been playing.
After Buffy's sexy dance, she intentionally ignores Willow a second time, and it kills to watch. Cordelia (Buffy's shadow self) tries to talk some sense into Buffy who ignores it, allowing Cordelia to get taken.
Tumblr media
Buffy walks by The Master's barrial site while eerie music plays, and for the first time we get a sense of what Buffy is really feeling: immortality.
Buffy's attitude toward her friends in this episode has always bothered me and made it difficult for me to enjoy. I could never make the connection as to why Buffy's trauma would cause her to act harshly to those she loves. Until you start to analyze that Buffy's spirit and heart are broken.
Tumblr media
The gang assembles,
Buffy: Come to The Bronze or we'll make her a meal.
Xander: (worriedly) They're going to cook her dinner?
but Buffy blows everyone off leaving them vulnerable.
Tumblr media
If they hurt Willow I'll kill you.
Buffy cleverly trick the vampire bait into confessing.
A Buffy works out her issues Xander tenderly holds Willow, and after the bones are crushed, Angel tenderly holds Buffy.
Buffy worries she won't be forgiven but is welcome back in open arms.
I hate that girl.

Bird Box
my rating 🌟🌟🌟
Tumblr media
This Netflix flick has got everyone talking. So much so that the small network of friends finally convinced me to see it.
The film opens with Mal, played by Sandra Bullock, preparing two children a route towards survival. As they row down a river we are given the back story of their current danger.
Five years earlier a pregnant Mal seems undecided about her impending motherhood as we are given to understand that her and her sister were raised by distant parents. Mal has a doctors visit and in just a matter of hours that day mass suicide and choas erupt. The television news reports that the current events are neither viral or psychological. The victims seem to be struck by deep sadness and kill themselves quite suddenly.
Tumblr media
After witnessing and surviving her sisters suicide a pregnant Mal gets called into a safe house. Her sympathetic aid becomes infected and a crotchety John Malkovich blames Mal for his wife's death.
Inside Mal and eight other survivors get aquianted and take harbor one of whom is a pregnant women whom Mal refers to as one of the sweetest women she'd ever met. B.D. Wong, whom I immediately recognized from Law and Order was the first to die. It is around that time in the film where they learn the must blot out the windows and avoiding looking at the threat to avoid the illness. Slowly the numbers diminish but not before John Malkovich gets a chance to be John Malkovich.
Tumblr media
Everything starts to go south when an intruder is let inside. A character I knew not to trust from the start. He explains he escaped near an asylum and presents himself to be normal for a time. Mal and her pregnant friend go into labor and the new guest goes on the offensive. He first attempts to freeze Mals bird, because they sense danger. Then begins opening windows and killing of the remaining parties while doing so. Unlike the earlier threat in the film, the new threat involves psychos, who can be spotted by eye color, exposing people to the threat "because it is so beautiful" to get them to kill themselves.
Mal is left with both newborns as the only remaining survivor, Tom, kills the intruder. Me. knowing Mal never would have escaped without help new that Tom would pull through and save Mal.
For the next five years it becomes apparent that Mal and Tom remain in the house and raise the two children. Children Mal refers to as Boy and Girl. And I can't help but wonder How have they been disposing of the bodies in the house?
We se Mal and Tom argue over how to raise the kids. It's clear that Mal is afraid to get too close, too attached. While Tom a family man, wants to give the children hope, a reason to live and not just survive.
Tom receives a message on a walky talkie. Directions of how to reach their safe camp. Mal is reluctant to trust it. They decide to think it over.
On what is probably a food or supply run, fun for the whole family, a team of psychos approach. Tom decides to throw himself to the lions so the family can escape.
Tumblr media
Mal, now alone knows her only shot is to follow the walkie instructions and head for the camp. She must take the kids on a two day journey, blindfolded, down the river in a rowboat to get away. Bringing along on the journey her pet birds that will alert her to danger. She is faced with a difficult decision. Who's eyes should she sacrafice for navigation.
Tumblr media
Unable to make a decision she forgoes the idea and they get lost in the rapids. Everyone makes it to land. (When did she have time to teach them to swim?) Then the threat starts speaking to them. Mal must pour out her heart for once in order to save Girl from the voices. They all find each other and per the instructions given they follow the bird calls to the safe camp location, a facility for the blind impaired.
There is an open courtyard full of birds, trees, children and families. I get the impression it was what Tom had envisioned. Finally Mal as I predicted is able give the children names, Olympia and Tom, finally they are safe.
My Conclusion
My biggest issue with the film is the lack of explanation with the impending threat and how it works. What do you even call it? These movies never tend to do well. The 2008 film The Happening and Cloverfield come to mind.
With Bird Box your first led to believe that if you witness a suicide you may become suicidal? Which would explain how the mass suicide spread so rapidly. Instead we get victims talking to voices who may be dead and an invisible something (usually depicted by droplets of leaves) spreading the madness. Is it the invisible something your not soppose to see? Or is it daylight itself? Because again it affects people immediately. Yet some survived when it initially happened.
The we get the psychos putting a twist on the premise. They have blue eyes instead of red encouraging the survivors to look. Are the possessed by this force? And, again it never gets explained why these people are affected differently. We are forced to draw our own conclusions. Mine being that, those who are already crazy are affected by it differently.
All in all, it is a suspenseful, entertaining film, with some superb performances. I found some events of the film a bit predictable, and the plot holes a bit frustrating. The premise itself intriguing but lacking in depth.

Buffy Rewatchith: My Thoughts and Comments...
Edition: Prophecy Girl
Honestly, every scene this episode is amazing.
We open with Xander practicing on Willow how he's going to ask Buffy to The Spring Fling.
Cordelia is parked on a date. The scene is cut with shots of Buffy looking badass as she kills her third vampire of the night. An earth quack ensues and we get more epic looking shots. I believe this is a Joss directed episode so I really shouldn't be surprised.
Tumblr media
What do you think five point one?
Buffy enters the Library the next day. Giles appears relieved to see her and immediately follows it with distraction.
Xander makes his move.
Well your not laughing so that's a good start.
The scene is crushing.
Jenny arrives giving us the grim recent events of Sunnydale. Cat gave birth to snakes. A boy born with his eyes facing inward. Can you imagine?
Cordelia looks genuinely happy with Kevin then asks Willow for a favor. We feel the discord loosen after last episode.
Willow looking good in her outfit that Cordy hates checks in on Xander. It's easy to be proud of her here standing up for herself.
Tumblr media
You think I want to go to the dance and watch you wish you were with her? You think that's my idea of hijinx?
I'm just going to go home and listen to country music the music of pain.
Buffy out to seek Giles is happy surprised to see Angel. The smile fades as the arguing continues...
Tumblr media
The signs? Read me the signs! Tell me my fortune! You're so useful sitting here with all your books you're really a lot of help.
Tumblr media
I don't want to die.
🎶 country music.🎶
Buffy and Joyce have a lovely comforting moment.
Insert what might be the most horrific scene this season Willow and Cordelia walking into the computer room. Ironically Porky is on screen. Not only does it mark the end of adulthood but also the threat of vampires to humans. Much like human's to cattle.
Joyce alerts Buffy sounding very concerned for Willow. Buffy goes to to comfort Willow. Another emotionally driven scene. Willows state gives Buffy the motivation she needs to fulfill her destiny. Take Care. Is her final goodbye to Willow.
As Buffy descends to her death. Willow and Xander get caught up. Xander puts his personal feeling aside and inlists Angel for help. Angel seemingly rather careless and ready to give up relunctantly follows Xander. The non immortal, Xander, leads to rescue Buffy ready to put his life on the line.
Tumblr media
Buffy hunts The Master, more beautiful camera work. The master hardly bites her before ascending above. Not making much sense really. Xander and Angel find her dead in a pool of water. Xander performs CPR and Buffy feels Strong.
Tumblr media
Cordelia of all people comes to Jenny and Willow's rescue crashing her car into the school hallway. The hellmouth begins to open inside the library. Cordelia's arm gets grabbed. She screams somebody HELP! Nerf Herder theme plays for the first and only time during the series. The cheese and entertainment begin.
Tumblr media
You have fruit punch mouth.
The hellmouth penis beast goes wild and then literally chuckles before Buffy defeats The Master which then retracts the penis beast.
We saved the world I say we party. I mean I got all pretty.
Tumblr media
The gang head to The Bronze. The Master Bones remain. And the library floor is somehow still in tact.
This finale really marks a turning point for the show. It has emotional investment with outstanding performances. In this episode each character behaves more bravely. Xander asks out Buffy who he has pinned for all season. He also confront a vampire he hates and risks his life for the woman who rejected him. Willow rejects Xander on principle who she's pinned for all season. She faces a traumatic event and keeps going. Cordelia gets closer with someone and chooses to fight the epic battle that didn't affect her. Jenny Calender involves herself in the battle when she didn't need to. Angel follows Xander to face off to The Master. Giles is willing to out step his Watcher role. Buffy chooses to accept her death, her sacrafice to save others.
The outcome of the prophecy was also quite clever. The prophecy had came to fruition but it was not a death sentence. Perhaps reminding us all that no one knows the future. For better or worse things don't always happen they way we expect them to. Even when things look bleak we choose our own destinies.

Buffy Rewatchith: My thoughts and Comments...
Edition: Out of Sight, Out of Mind
The Cordy centric episode. My eyes are hazel, Hellen Keller.
Tumblr media
It is pretty funny how Cordelia always sides with the wrong party. Like the time I sort of ran over this girl on her bike...
Mitch gets attacked by an invisible baseball bat in the locker room, of all places, after making a lewd comment. Insert buffy theme music
Hi, Isnt this the Bomb!
Boy, do I remember the era where that phrase was way over used.
Xander and Willow are cute sharing their memories while leaving Buffy to feel excluded. It's a bittersweet moment. I don't know if Willow ever appears more amused in the entire series than she does right there.
Willow showcases her cleverness again amongst Principal Snyder and I think it's moments like that that make her such a beloved character.
Maybe it's a vampire bat.
Oh Xander, your wit.
Tumblr media
In comes Harmony. In truth, Harmony is not really seeming any more desperate for Cordy's attention than our mystery girl.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xander do guys even have a stove?
Another peak into Xander's personal life.
Buffy spies on Cordy preparing for May Queen in her gown looking nostalgic.
Tumblr media
I love the mirror bit between Giles and Angel here. Giles talks about the vampire king and The Slayer texts that have been lost. I wonder if they explain The Gaurdians in season seven?
Now we get a peak at Clea Duvall, a popular 90's actress that is beginning to turn up again.
Tumblr media
I'm noticing there is lots of blue clothing this episode. For May?
Giles tries to sell us with the idea that Physics some how explain Marcie Ross invisibility.
Hey, you think I'm never lonely because I'm so cute and popular? I can be surrounded by people and be completely alone. It's not like any of them REALLY know me. I don't even know if they like me half the time. People just want to be in a popular zone. Sometimes when I talk...everyone's so busy agreeing with me, they don't hear a word I say.
Tumblr media
Cordelia is embarrased to change in a mop closet.Giles, Willow, and Xander get tricked to being locked up in the boiler room with a gas leak.
Tumblr media
Marcie plans to do a number on Cordy's face. Angel rescues the gang. Buffy defeats Marcie. Marcie gets taken by the FBI, a comical writers choice. Cordy expresses her gratitude briefly.
Tumblr media
And were left with a gimmicky ending. Why do the police and FBI seem so much more involved in earlier seasons?
Tumblr media
the book happens to be the same Chapter as the episode. I wonder what book that really us?

Buffy Rewatchith: My thoughts and comments...
Edition: Nightmares
Cue what Might be my favorite episode of Season one! This episode is right up there with Halloween, for me. Only everyone remembers Halloween.
I love this intro!
Aww Buffy, you can tell she's trying to convince herself that her father wants to spend time with her when telling Willow about him. Just the single fact she has to confirm with her mother that he really is coming is sad enough.
Tumblr media
A lesson in active listening that Xander only pretends to remember. Perhaps a message to the audience to dig a little deeper on what's really going on in this episode.
If I can face my fear It cannot master me.
believe this is most we really see of The Master and the proverbial Child The Anoited One. Neither of which have names seeing as they are really just metaphors for stages of life. The Master Buffys fear of adulthood and The Anointed Buffy stuck as a child.
Poor Giles, getting lost in the stacks of book selves. My favorite line, "Dreams?! That would be the musical comedy version of this. Nightmares, our nightmares are coming true!" Giles says excited, the guy with the least horrific nightmares of all.
Wyndall explains his Nightmares. His performance is really good.
Tumblr media
Buffy struggles with her history test. I love this scene! The editing is so fantastic that it just has this in edge dreamy vibe.
Then we see this extra go into the school dungeon - I mean, basement. And we're confronted with what may be the scariest villian this season.
Buffy and Giles go to the hospital, there they learn about Billy Palmer the Boy Buffy's been seeing around. At the library Buffy's father shows up early to break her heart. The weird thing is Hank Summers had to be taken over by the astral phenomenon to participate in Buffy's nightmare. Makes you wonder how he was able to crush her so easily.
To be honest the explanation of "Billy" and things being easy on a Hellmouth really don't make much sense. I don't really care, since I love the episode. But also kinda also makes you wonder why random bizarro things don't just happen in later seasons. The Hellmouth doesn't ever go away. Things tend to have better explanations.
Buffy and Billy are being followed by "The ugly man" who happens to have a baseball-shaped clubbed arm he uses to brutalize his victims.
Meanwhile, Cordy gets dragged to a chess tornoment and Willow get called down to the dungeon. Makes you wonder if Willow secretly desires to be famous. First she knows piano, in this episode she's a soprano and in restless an actress.
Nobody died. What's the fun in barring someone if they're already dead?
Tumblr media
"It just cant get more disturbing," Can it?
The Master begins to laugh manically as he toss dirt over Buffy. His most creepiest scene really.
Xander faces off with his childhood nightmare.
Giles is deeply saddened by Buffy's death. Buffy rise as an Undead American and I wonder what it would have been like if Angel were in this episode and they were to explore the slayer vampire a bit more.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Xander assists in Billy's confrontation with his couch. Maybe Xander has some personal experience in this area.
Sunnydale goes back to normal. Cander confesses he still "dug" vamp Buffy though it was "totally bench" and Buffy head off into the sunset with Hank Summers, like nothing ever happened.
It has some flaws, but like I said, I LOVE this episode!

Buffy ReWatchith: My Thoughts and Comments....
Edition: Puppet Show
Encore! Cordelia, My ears are bleeding. Buffy and the Scoobies are mocking the "talentless" show and I can't help but wonder if this scene was shot in a church as the walls and windows suggest to me.
Tumblr media
I saw a Dummy it gave me the wig, there really wasn't a story there.
Why are characters always alone and getting attacked in locker rooms on this show, I wonder. Aura finds a corpse in the first episode. Amy gets attacked by Cordy in Witch. We have the ballerina this episode. And plenty of it in Go Fish.
We see Buffy scolding Morgan/Sid wearing yet another leopard print outfit right before twisted little homunculus shares his disdain for kids.
I remember being generally intrigued as the gang discusses whether the attack was human or hellmouthy. And I love whenever the gang starts to investigate The Sunnydale High students.
Tumblr media
You'd think an aspiring demon Magician would be better at magic, or maybe he's just blending in?
Cordelia: "My song is about dignity, and human feelings, and personal... hygiene... or something. Anyway, it's sappy, and no one's gonna be feeling sappy after all that rock and roll!...What?"
Giles: "Your hair! ...Xander was right, it worked like a charm."
Tumblr media
-My favorite dialogue this episode!
Willow finds a texts script that pretty much states consciousness possessed objects need to harvest organs to stay alive. Pretty odd considering Sid's a demon hunter and creepy reanimated dolls are never featured again.
Sid starts to explain himself and I can't help but cringe every time his wood mouth flanks together.
I knew a slayer in the 30's. Korean Chick very hot.
For a second I consider spike's kill in the Boxer rebellion. But I guess that was China? Different era too.
Giles and Synder have a creepy showdown behind the curtain which nearly leads Giles to his death. Everyone goes to rescue him and Sid sacrafices himself to kill the harvesting demon.
Curtains open.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Curtains close.
This episode has some great humor between characters and for the audience and that's about all it has....
All in all entertainment well had.

Buffy Rewatchith: My Thoughts and Comments...
Edition: I Robot, You Jane
Moloch becomes trapped in a book. Just imagine if you could trap any demon in a book. Pretty simple wouldn't you say?
Tumblr media
If you're not jacked in you're not alive.
Poor Giles. He must hate smart phones.
Look how cute Willow is while she scans random not at all concerning glyphs into the computer. I mean what is the point of this?
Buffy is also pretty adoring fawning over Willows new love interest.
Does it involve a midget and a block of Ice?
Tumblr media
I have to wonder how many late millennials wouldn't take Willow's side on the online dating debate. I think there is some valid concerns there even in this modern era.
Tumblr media
Nazi Germany was a well ordered society
Why yes, yes it was.
..have Dinner, a show, horrible Axe Murder!
I actually think this this is a great example of Xander's character. Here he is concerned and pesstimistic for Willow whom he has no romantic interest in. He's naturally a bit skeptical. Everyone wants to make his point of views invalid, dishonest, selfish because of his interest in Buffy. Becoming Part 1. for instance. But I think Xander would share the exact same opinions regardless.
"it's on her permanent record" what a hilarious thing for a person to say.
It's actually pretty sad that Dave died. I think he would make a good character. Which can be witnessed in Supernatual. And it would have been fun to see something develop between Willow and him, however brief.
Buffy attempts to delete the Willow file and I get flashbacks of 3rd grade computer class because that's exactly what the computers at the time looked like.
Buffy finds Dave's hanging body. She generally appears distressed. I can't help but think how much better this episode would be in later seasons. Similar to season 7's Help I think. Buffy I'm sure would console Dave's Parents.
Willow mistakes Fritz for her forgetful Dad. The brief insight into Willows background is enticing. It unfortunate her family life doesn't get explored much more further in later episodes.
Techno Pagan is the term.Seems to be almost everyone's most hated line.
Jenny Calenders identity is revealed. I think some fans feel a disconnect towards her character due to the many times they try to play off her character as deceitful. Here, in Surprise, and again after her death.
Tumblr media
A internet circle is formed thanks to Jenny and Buffy defeats Moloch's physical form.
Tumblr media
Smell is the most powerful trigger to the memory there is. A certain flower or a whiff of smoke can bring up experiences long forgotten. Books smell musty and rich. The knowledge gained from a computer is…it has no texture, no context. It’s there and then it’s gone. If it’s to last, then the getting of knowledge should be tangible. It should be, um, smelly. - a great Giles qoute
Mrs. Calender gets flirty and the gang recoupe.
Tumblr media
A very unpopular episode for many fans. But one I can simply enjoy for what it is.

Buffy Rewatchith: My Thoughts and Comments...
Edition: Angel
The cockroach episode. I wonder if there's a metaphor here?
A vampire can't come in unless he's Invited.
I've heard that before but never put it to the the test. Well, Buffy you just did!
It's interesting, I'm really seeing a similarity in Geller's look here, to her role in I Know What you Did Last Summer.
Tumblr media
So you weren't Following Me? I just had this feeling you were. Flashback to the Bronze and you can really see her sense of being followed before exiting the club. Such a minuscule but believable performance.
Tumblr media
At the library Buffy is practically wearing a wedding dress under her leather jacket. I love the 90's look but I can't get over the wardrobe decisions this season compared to later seasons, which are much more realistic.
Giles leaves out a closed for filing sign outside the library so Buffy can train in private. Interesting it is the only time we see this technique.
Tumblr media
Everytime I see this staff stick fighting I think, That kinda looks like fun.
Cue makeout sessions followed by screaming. I saw a shadow. Is this scene really realistic? Is there anyone who didn't see this building up.
Tumblr media
How could you love an Umpire? Everyone hates 'em.
Cut to Angel finding Darla in his apartment and the flow of the scene feels very exposition and forced.
Not long for a vampire 240 years or so. Okay Giles, but aside from The Master, and Kakistoes not many vampires actually seem quite as old as him.
Tumblr media
No no no, no speaking up. That way leads to madness and sweaty palms. This Buffy Willow scene may be one of my favorites in all of season one.
Joyce "scream" is obviously the same as Buffy's. A recording.
That School is amazing. Joyce's niavity is almost funny.
Buffy goes to confront Angel at the Bronze.
Tumblr media
Sorry Twilight, is that you?
The fight between Darla and Buffy is pretty anticlimactic at least in my opinion.
Tumblr media
Darla gets dusted by Angel.
Buffy and Angel say they can never be together, then kiss anyway. We are left with the symbolism of their relationship.
Tumblr media
This episode, while vital to anyone seeing the show for the first time, lack rewatchability. There is nothing in the episode that compels me to want to revisit the story. I simply do so because, Its Buffy, and has that early 90s first season charm.
