I am not talking something like Suits, because in Suits a lot of the comedy is derived from hijinks and wisecracking. nor am I talking about something like Boston Legal with the whole bunny-ears lawyer thing providing a lot of the jokes.

oh no. I mean stuff like “oh god what even is a pleading anyway I never did this in law school” and “please lord just let me wipe the smirk off of opposing counsel’s face” and “damnit patricia WHAT DID I JUST TELL YOU NOT TO DO FOR THE GOOD OF YOUR CASE AND ALSO MY SANITY?”

Not me just realizing that the last episode of VMars — where the scene that we pretend didn’t happen happened— is called Years Continents Bloodshed. Wtf. That’s literally a slap in the face for us. The more I dwell on this and the shit show that was the last 10 minutes of the show, the angrier I get. This is worse than the GoT ending. It took 3 whole episodes to effectively crush that fandom. It only took VMars 10 minutes. Rob Thomas can go eat a rock.

Do you know of any fics where Mickey becomes friends with the other Gallaghers?

There's Redheaded Stepchildren and Irish Twins again. Those fics are mainly about Ian's relationships with Debbie and Lip but there's a cute background Mickey/Carl friendship in them as well. Mickey also has nice interactions with Debbie in Redheaded Stepchildren and while he and Lip DO NOT like each other for the majority of Irish Twins, they do reach an understanding with each other in the end.

The Luck You Got is a complete S5 re-write written by multiple authors. Mickey developes bonds with all the Gallagher siblings in that one I believe. Though his closest one is Carl.

His Favorite Gallagher Is centered on a developing Mickey/Debbie friendship with a sprinkle of Gallavich.

The New Year and Our Stubborn Love are both long post S6 fics that has Mickey developing bonds with multiple Gallagher siblings throughout.

There's a cute Mickey/Fiona friendship that I LOVE in the Broad-Shouldered Beasts series

And then Mickey and Liam form a bond in hope we'll be better than the past when Mickey and Ian take over the reigns of watching over Liam.

I BELIEVE those are all the prominent ones I know of. If anyone else has suggestions feel free to comment because I'd like to read more of these types of fics myself.

“don’t reduce this female character down to a love interest” does not translate into “this female character shouldn’t have a love interest.”

preventing female characters with strong, compelling narratives from experiencing love, intimacy, and affection is just as regressive as reducing them down to sexual accessories for male characters. it assumes that women must choose between a romantic interest and depth of character and ignores a far more productive message: that women are capable of possessing both.
