“i hope you die” is basic. “i hope your text post gets popular with someone else’s addition you don’t find that funny and all the tags on it are about that addition” is smart. it’s real. it’s terrifying. it could happen to you

In her essay Less TikTok, More Screaming, Persinette writes that these e-therapists have turned healing into “a religion, a lifestyle, and above all, a brand” while promoting a culture of isolation and individual optimization. In this ecosystem, “...therapy has become a litmus test for social belonging and inherent goodness, a sign that one is aware of and has adapted to the newest standards of how to behave.” The social standard this culture offers is one of controlled, placated solitude. Its narrative often insists that you’re surrounded by toxic people who are trying to hurt you, and the only way to ever become the person you’re meant to be is to cut them all off, retreat into a high-gloss cocoon of talk therapy and Notion templates, and emerge a non-emotive butterfly who will surely attract the relationships you’ve always deserved — relationships with other “healed” people, who don’t hurt you or depend on you or force you to feel difficult, taxing emotions. And finally, your life will be as frictionless and shiny as you, alone, have always deserved for it to be.

I feel like folks talking like Tumblr is the last bastion of reason on the Internet are forgetting that the owner of Tumblr is demonstrably cut from the same cloth as Zuckerberg and Musk. Tumblr's moderation polices aren't less bigoted, they're just less competently implemented.

truly do not understand how people just slip into relationships and jobs and opportunities and friend groups and lifestyles. to me there are a million obstacles to navigate in a single basic conversation

shared this idea with a friend earlier, may as well share it here, too:
3-panel comic:
close-up of a bowl containing many small, indistinguishable objects. candies, maybe. there is some text saying "ONLY 2 PER PERSON!" — the number "2" is underlined repeatedly for emphasis.
somebody is grabbing an entire fistful!!
zoom out. a larger label for the bowl is "MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES". The Grabber's identity is labelled on like a political cartoon, something like "me", "my brain", or even "my [parent]"

i love you polyamorous relationships, open relationships, friends with benefits/friends that have sex with each other, queerplatonic relationships, friendships that have some weird queer element to it, relationship anarchy, staying single and i love anything that doesn't match what society considers "normal"

It's a shame that laminated dough doesn't make the same sound as laminated paper 😔
