How does it feel thinking you have no personality? No defining traits? That nothing about you really sticks in people’s minds so you have to constantly keep up this extreme act of doing something interesting or funny all the time always to make sure people think of you? To keep you in their heads where you’ll never truly die from this world even if your body turns to dirt to feed new generations? Constantly speaking on another’s behalf but never your own because you feel no one would want to hear it anyways, hiding yourself under a jester suit of lies and jokes? You want to do good in the world, but what does that matter if they won’t remember you doing it? You’d rather make people’s lives better, knowing that you helped someone out through a tough time or just for a small favor. How does it feel being unable to stop at “just fine” or “okay”, you have to always go over and beyond to feel like you actually did something? That if you don’t fly past your goals you’ve failed somehow?

l have no proof for this but I always thought of the player as the red soul, well other then Kris' soul being literally us

But this headcanon is also something my gf told me about @anon-coke

Red being love is a very cool take. But I wonder what's your reasoning behind it

Well, it mostly ties back into the whole Ball Game text you get when getting the red flag and what Chara said about the red soul in the comic

Together, these traits all are tied to love in some way. Because love in and of itself is a very flexible term. It isn't exclusively romantic. The game itself mentions love a couple of times too. Sans' evaluation in the Last Corridor comes to mind especially.

Then there is a phone call dialog with Papyrus and Undyne you can get in hotland that also mentions it and draws special attention to love being represented by a red cartoon heart

And then there is also that old forum post Toby made back in the day when he first talked about Undertale as an idea he had. Of course he likes to put jokes in there, since it's also where "Frisk's love interest is a female cuban cigar" came from

So as a way to call back to these, love is the trait of the red soul in this comic
