In what ways can I tell you I love you? Your kisses feel like fucking. Laying with you is like proclaiming to the whole kingdom that you’re a lie. And when it’s just us, that’s original sin.

I hope that sounds devoutly biblical in the most artificial and poetic way. I’m not exactly religious, not in a good Catholic way like I ought to be. But you make me godly. With you as the cross and time as the nails, with all of my Samaritans as witness, crucify me and I swear to you I’ll never ask anything from you again.

I’m seeing a scene now. A prophecy. A truth. It’s us at the end of all creation, and we are facing each other. We know that this is the end, and that we’d not spend this time apart. You are holding my hands like they’re the last thing you’ll ever hold, because they are; your face is grim and wan, like you’d been alive as long as the sea. With distraught eyes and furrowed brows, you kiss my knuckles and tell me, « This is our fault. » And then in your eyes I see the destruction of existence and I see you watching the same thing in mine.

In the end, I suppose we’re still reflecting disaster. It’s very romantic, baby.
