ICE BEAKER SENTENCES.
For new or old partners:
“How’d you get yourself stuck?”
“Hey, wake up!”
“You look like someone I saw on TV.”
“They booked us in the same hotel room.”
“It’s pouring! Lets find cover.”
“Do you have a key?”
“I thought this was a private office?”
“You look familiar.”
“Is this animal yours?”
“I got dared to kiss you…”
“You wouldn’t happen to have some jumper cables?”
“Damn hunting traps!”
“I lost my cat, have you seen it?”
“Wow, that’s a nasty scrape.”
“Car troubles?”
“What are you doing out here?”
“Oh God, we’re really stuck.”
“You don’t look so good…”
“I’ll stay with you until help gets here.”
“Why are you being so nice to me?”
“Can you help me out of here?”

Honestly, Chris was laughing his ass off. It was always so great to see someone knowing they were going to win before wiping them out in a game. "Hey if I'm going down I gotta take you with me." He said, smirking "I mean seriously, no way I was gonna let you be first when I was in 4th. Besides I'm pretty sure you were the one who put the banana peals on the track so I needed to seek my revenge, Jess."

Chris seemed absolutely horrified at the scene in front of him. He wasn't exactly a fan of eyes being taken out of their sockets in front of him. God...he was glad he normally worked in natural deaths now. The man swallowed nervously as habit looked around. All sense of safety was gone when it appeared the man could /smell/ him. He took a shaky breath and appeared out of the shadows. "And didn't yours teach you that murdering is bad dude?"
Chris had been around long enough to know that when management wanted people from other areas of grim reaping that something was wrong. He had been in dying naturally causes and suddenly he was cleaning up after a murderer? It was shocking. But he didnt mind it to much- or at least he wouldn’t mind it to much if the murders weren’t so gross to look at. He was usually arriving to the scene after the murderer left to take the souls. But he was surprised to find the man still hovering over the body. Chris backed up, inhaling a bit as he watched the man silently. Waiting for the man to notice him. He shuffled a bit in his dark robe as he watched them. It was always so scary seeing someone willing to murder others on actions.

Just a fun fact for all you lovely people. Josh had a Kesha phase when he was in 9th grade and it was great.

Chris was a bit nervous about the last gift. It was a gift that meant the most to the grim reaper at least. He just hoped that Josh would love it just as much. Maybe would mean as much to his friend as much as it meant to Chris. He could hardly wait for it to be opened.
Once it was opened and he could see Josh’s face. Honestly, it was priceless. It was nice to see him surprised the whole time. But to see him choking up he purred a bit. Happy to see Josh show emotion- Sure Josh showed emotion but never crying. It was always a problem, especially after Josh tried to kill himself.
“So you like it?” He asked, picking up his own that still had ‘Josh written onto it, he tried his out happily, smirking as he pressed it “It’s not as good as a cell phone but since we don’t have phone service here we can act like secret agents or something. Like old times.”
“So good presents?”
He grabbed another bottle of alcohol and started sipping it as he continued to watch his best friend.
That much was true: Chris tried to be rebellious, he was just usually really bad at it. He disobeyed in the stupidest of ways, such as eating an extra serving of curds, or buying him Christmas presents. It was just another thing Josh liked about him.
He downed what was left of his Sam Adams, watching after him and raising an eyebrow when he saw him come back with not one, but three gifts. He repressed a sigh, never knowing how to control this overly compassionate son of a bitch.
Josh just looked at him with a look that betrayed a sigh as he smiled, and he just rolled his eyes, turning back to the packages. He went for the middle one first, since it had the shiniest ribbon… only to almost drop it from shock once he opened it.
His mouth opened and closed like a fish as he cautiously lifted up the most professional filming camera he’d seen up close– and that included movie sets he’d wandered on as a child. He felt his heart rate pick up as though he were watching porn, except this was so much better than porn. He felt a rush of adrenaline as he held not only it, but a microphone going along with it. God, he felt tears coming to his eyes.
“Chris…” he couldn’t even express the right words. “I– how? Dude, shit. I don’t even…You… you bought this???”

“I thought you would like it. I know how much you wanted to take classes on psychology and stuff so I thought why not?” He said, he had a feeling Josh would be a bit uncertain when he saw the book. Considering he knew the doctor’s diagnosed him with depression, though at this point Chris was beginning to suspect it wasn’t the right diagnosis. He had known Josh well enough to know that he was seeing things which leaned more towards schizophrenia. But he also knew doctors: he knew once they diagnosed someone they didn’t like to be proven wrong by someone who isn’t a doctor themselves.
“It should get you through at least a couple courses.”
He watched Josh and laughed a bit, shaking his head.
“It’s a couple gold bars.” He teased “Nah, I’m kidding, I’m kidding. You’ll like the next one.”
After all it contained both the walkie talkies that they had until their falling out at 11. Josh had broken his own but Chris had managed to get it fixed. He was sure it would be nice for Josh to get them back. Hell it even still had their names carved into the plastic.
Chris watched Josh closely, knowing full well how much Josh could take before he passed out. He just wanted to make sure he didn’t go over his limit. The last thing Chris needed was death number one being his best friend. So he watched him and continued drinking more alcohol.
From how Josh spoke to him it seemed like he was sober enough to get the presents tonight. It would be nice for him to be completely there when he got his gifts instead of drunk as hell. So he just smiled and shook his head. Moving to get off the stool clumsily.
“You know me, I don’t listen to anyone.” He said with a giggle. He got out of the kitchen and walked into the bedroom he was given: right next to Josh’s room. He purred a bit as he crawled under his bed and grabbed the three boxes. Being extremely careful to not drop a single one of them. The camera was the most expensive of the 3 gifts.
He walked slowly down the steps, finally arriving at the kitchen. He set the presents down in front of Josh and went back to his own seat. Looking at Josh expectantly, he smiled.
“Alright bro, I can’t wait for tomorrow so open them now.” He said with a laugh.

Chris watched as he picked out the biggest and shiniest present of the three. He had to admit, he wasn’t all that surprised. But he was honestly glad that Josh picked that one first, it was the one Chris was most excited for Josh to open. It had taken most of his salaries this year after all. Grim Reapers were normally paid in years. The more hard work you did the longer you were given to live yourself. But since meeting Josh he had been asking for human currency so that he could buy Josh things every once and a while.
It was also nice considering even the ones who were to die of natural causes wanted to bribe him since it was the holiday season. He got more years that way which was wonderful for him. It made it a lot easier to aquire more money for holiday gifts.
“Yeah- your dad showed me some nice sites a while back on film equipment and I know you wanted better quality equipment for your online show dude. I wanted to give you something that made even your old man a bit jealous.” He replied with a smile “Maybe tomorrow we can head out and you can try it out.”
He watched Josh, enjoying how excited the young man was.
“It was expensive but I only had to go without eating a month.” He joked playfully “Open the other ones too dude.”
He was just super excited about his friend seeing all the nice things he got for him.
It was always a task for him to work. Honestly he hated seeing the look of shock or sadness on people’s faces when they saw him in his uniform. He hated the fact that people tended to stare uneasily at the sythe he carried when leading them to their new home. In a way he guessed he understood, after all…the dead never knew what laid ahead.
Normally he took things instead of taking lives. He was one of the few who still accepted things instead of the person he was supposed to take. He knew bribery was against polocy but he knew these people needed more time. Maybe to say goodbye, maybe to fullfill their last few things on their bucket list. But he didn’t want to take people before they were ready to go. Even if it did land him in trouble with the higher ups.
That all ended when he met a child he was supposed to take. Someone who at a young age was hit by a car. At the time Chris had been in that department and he had taken a few children before. But this child…he held so much promise. So- instead of leading him to the department he let the child continue.
The parent’s had stated it was a miracle- he had only a couple broken bones. It was obvious that Josh was blessed or in some way important in the future. At least that’s what the family believed. Of course they hoped the same for their two daughters.
For the first few years Chris watched the children from afar. Making sure Josh was safe as well the the two girls. But around the time Josh hit 3rd grade Chris made himself known. Not as death, but as a child. Appearing to Josh as just another human being. Sure it had been hard at first but he quickly got used to his role and found himself growing up with the other man.
Now here he was drinking happily with his best friend. His legs swinging a bit against the bar stool in Josh’s nice cozy ski lodge. It was weird acting like he was 18, but nice.
He still worked, but he had been reassigned to natural causes. Not that he had to work this weekend. As far as Chris knew this mountain was the safest place in the world. No one ever died here, and thus he was so willing to put his gaurd down.
“Hey Josh, I was thinking tomorrow I would give you your Christmas present.” He said with a smile “I know it’s late bro but I finally got some good money from work so I could get you something.”
