Colour and Form by Paul C. Swift Via Flickr: Facebook | Instagram | Moonrocksastro | Twitter Processing Paul C Swift M42 in colour! Data: NASA, ESA, Hubble Note on Coloration source Wiki: Observers have long noted a distinctive greenish tint to the nebula, in addition to regions of red and of blue-violet. The red hue is a result of the Hα recombination line radiation at a wavelength of 656.3 nm. The blue-violet coloration is the reflected radiation from the massive O-class stars at the core of the nebula. The green hue was a puzzle for astronomers in the early part of the 20th century because none of the known spectral lines at that time could explain it. There was some speculation that the lines were caused by a new element, and the name nebulium was coined for this mysterious material. With better understanding of atomic physics, however, it was later determined that the green spectrum was caused by a low-probability electron transition in doubly ionized oxygen, a so-called "forbidden transition". This radiation was all but impossible to reproduce in the laboratory at the time, because it depended on the quiescent and nearly collision-free environment found in the high vacuum of deep space. #fineart #Astrophotography #Space #astronomia

Space Odyssey. NGC 6946 by Paul C. Swift Via Flickr: Facebook | Instagram | Moonrocksastro | Twitter Fireworks Galaxy Up close and personal with RGB data from the Liverpool telescope (belonging to the John Moores University) & the new supernova has been added to this composite image from our own back-yard data shot this year. What a pleasure to work with this quality of data. So many details to explore, so much cosmic dust. Pretty impressive from an earth based telescope. I could go for more of this stuff. Processed by Swift Sometimes it is interesting to take a closer look. #Astrophotography #Space

Dust-Scape in Cygnus by Paul C. Swift Via Flickr: Facebook | Instagram | Moonrocksastro | Twitter New and old data from 2017 & 2015 was combined to produce this new image of the Crescent Nebula in Cygnus. Higher resolution detail was photographed with a large Newtonian telescope and the wide-field data, with a fast refactor. Hope you enjoy the results.

Pickering's Triangle in the Veil by Paul C. Swift Via Flickr: Facebook | Instagram | Moonrocksastro | Twitter This is a two panel mosaic featuring the entangled strands of differing types of emission nebula located in the Veil. These wonderful nebular remnants signify massive high energy events in the cosmos in the distant past. Pickering's Triangle is located approximately 1500 light years away in Cygnus. This image was photographed under northern skies, at my home in Valencia. Viewing in full screen is recommended. M63 The Sunflower Galaxy by Paul C. Swift Via Flickr: Facebook | Instagram | Moonrocksastro | Twitter This image of M63 was shot in Europe.. The data was shot by me at my Home observatory in Valencia and the more luminance data for the the galaxy and core was shot in Sicily by my friend Carmelo Falco at his Home observatory . By combining the data from these two very different telescopes the fast Newtonian 14" telescope and Carmelo's 16" home build RC, we were able to benefit from the two very different optical systems. From the Newt: Speed for the faint nebular detail and high core detail from the 16"RC. Source wikipedia: "M63, NGC 5055, or the Sunflower Galaxy) is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici consisting of a central disc surrounded by many short spiral arm segments.
