[Monty groaned, knowing he'd fucked up though having meant it as a compliment his snarky and rough tone had made it sound more like an insult.]
"I didn't say there was anythin' wrong with it. 's a helluva lot better than what we grew up with!" [He sighed, looking over his shoulder with an ingrained need to keep his eyes on his surroundings.]
"Fuck- please, Nikko." Monty was almost begging now and the dispair was written all over his face.
[Arguably, there probably wasn't anything Monty could've said to defuse this situation, but calling the life Nikko strived so hard to have as "little house on the prairie" definitely added fuel to the fire.]
This isn't "little house on the prairie"! This is my life and my home. Now you need to leave before Sam and his family comes back.

[Monty furrowed his brow, he knew Nikko would be angry with him for ending up in jail again but he was surprised that Nikk asked him to leave, thinking his brother would know it was important to come down and disturb Jolly-Green's perfect family. Maybe being apart from Nikko for two years had clouded Monty's judgment of Nikk, and proved he couldn't read Nikk's mind or truly predict people's actions, at least the actions of people outside of jail anyway.]
"Look man I won't come in or whatever but I need to talk to ya. It's important Nik. I ain't tryin' ta spoil ya little house on the prairie shit. Just come talk somewhere quiet" [Monty replied in a low voice almost a growl, trying not to alert anyone else to his presence or let his frustration take hold to become anger.]
[Nikko stood there in shock for a moment, slowly lowering his hand with the cup once he finally clicked back into the conversation.]
What are you doing here? Why are you here? How did you get here? [He demanded.] You need to leave, [Nikko added before even waiting for an answer to any of his questions.]

Monty was relieved it was Nikko who opened the door, he didn't feel like explaining himself to strangers on the best of days but even more so today. Monty ran his hand through his hair, pulling on the ends in a show of anxiety, he could usually mask these little behaviors but being back in the real world had him on edge piling on top of the bad news he had come to share.
Monty flinched as the door opened reviling his brother with the cup raised as if to throw. He tried to physically shake off his reaction. He wouldn't have reacted like that 24 hours ago, faced with someone with their arm raised but again it was like being in a foreign land.
"Nikk," Monty nodded in greeting, not meeting his brothers' eyes. They weren't exactly on the best terms right now. "'am sure ya don't wanna see me right now but I gotta talk to ya." He waited uncomfortably for Nikko's shock to pass.
[Nikko was in the living room, working again on his beaded artwork kit. When it was finished, it would be a sunset--something Nikko already envisioned as a perfect addition to he and Sam's eventual home. With the little funds they had, a permanent home was still many years in the making, but that didn't mean he couldn't dream. He wanted a farmhouse, just like this one. Cozy. Not too big, but not too small either. Their perfect, peaceful little slice of heaven. Not unlike the one they were currently i--
Nikko was shocked out of his thoughts by some of the loudest knocking he had ever heard. He glanced around, but he already knew he was the only one currently around as Sam and his parents had gone to do a round of chores around the farm.
Unsure what to do, Nikko slowly stood up from his chair, grabbing his cup off the table as he did. The cup wasn't heavy, but it was glass at least. If nothing else, it could work as a temporary stun.
Eventually, Nikko made it to the door, a tight grip on the cup--ready in throwing position--as he cracked open door, only to see...]
...Montgomery?

Monty chain smoked as he sped down the highway to Paris TN. He couldn't believe this was what he was doing barely 24 hours out of the joint. He'd expected to be in a bar, or at least his room, drinking himself stupid to forget the last 2 years. Two years of his life down the drain, but who could blame him when everything had fallen apart. The smallest piece of luck was that his car was still functional. The last piece of Vitya he had left was the car. The nicotine was making Monty antsy as he got nearer to the farm, the GPS on his phone shouting out that his turn was coming up though he could barely see the difference between the dusty highway and the driveway he was supposed to be entering. He slowed down to a crawl as he pulled up beside the truck he recognized as belonging to Jolly Green. Tugging fustratedly on the hem of his ratty shirt, he one he'd been arrested in, he walked up onto the cliché southern porch and knocked roughly on the door to the farm house.

Montgomery, if you try to do anything to Stevie or his partner, I swear to the gods there will be severe repercussions! [Nikko shot back, getting into his brother’s face this time.]
[He scoffed, truly start to lose it at this point.] Let me get this straight, Montgomery. You feel the need to go on and on about how precarious it is for me to marry the man I love–that it potentially cost me my life. But you think ruining your life for a man who left you and another man who obviously no longer interested in you is completely fine?!
He doesn’t want you, Montgomery! Meanwhile all Sam and I want is for you to be safe and happy and you’re treating us like the pile of beer bottles in your room!
[Sam could handle a lot, but you even vaguely threaten his family and a switch flipped inside him. He took a step closer to Monty and looked up in the eyes.] I have spent the last two years loving and taking care of your baby brother and doing everything in my power to make sure he’s safe. And I will continue to do that for the rest of my fucking life. While you have been drinking your life away. So if you think you can stand here and threaten my baby brother just to make yourself feel more powerful, then you have another thing coming.
>
“Back the fuck up, that was not a fuckin’ threat just fuckin’ interestin’ on the connection ta Red.” [Monty growled defensively.]
“Your life fuckin’ matters, ya ain’t fucked for life, ya haven’t already fucked up before so it matters that ya safe.” [Monty shouted looking between his brother and the man who was supposed to be looking after his brother.]
“You try puttin’ ya’self back together if Blondie leaves, how do ya think ya’d do with that? ‘cause I fuckin’ guarantee it wouldn’t be with a fuckin’ smile. There’s nothin’ left for me.” [The tears escaped without Monty’s permission as he shouted.]

Whether I did it 30 days ago or in 2 years, I’d be in the same amount of danger. I want whatever time with Sam that I can get, Montgomery. How many times do I have to tell you that? I refuse to live in fear for the rest of my life!
[Nikko acknowledged Sam with a tiny head nod before he turned about around to Monty.] “Red” is Schuyler? Ariel’s Schuyler? Isn’t he married? Montgomery, please do not tell me you’re trying to wedge yourself between two married people.
I know a lot more than people give me credit for. [Sam replied, genuinely feeling it for once.] For one, you sent me to do your dirty work and warn him about your father. Our little brothers also happen to be dating each other, but that’s not really relevant to this conversation.
[He went quiet at looked over at Nikko. He hated hearing him talk like that. They were going to have forever and he’d make sure of it, no matter what it cost him.]
>
“Ya brother is seein’ Red’s brother? That’s useful ta know, blondie.” [Monty replied to Sam thoughtfully.]
“But why marry him [Monty jerked his thumb to Sam] what’s the point of marrying someone anyway ya still t’gether what does it matter? How’s that worth ya life!” [Monty exclaimed, not understanding what Nikko was saying.]
“Yeah bitchy rainbow is his sister, got a right temper that one jesus. And ’m not wedgin’ ma’self anywhere, he was mine first. That pathetic uptight prick is nobody an’ needs ta get outta my way.” [He shouted, but tears were pooling in his eyes.]

We’ve been together for two years, Montgomery! You do not get to act like I impetuously married some guy I had only known for 5 days! And while you’re at it, stop projecting onto me! When, at any point, did I claim for a moment that I felt like I was ‘better than you’?
Vitya’s gone?! Is that why you’re acting like this?! [Nikko soften for a moment, but that went away as soon as he was clued in on who “Red” was.] That’s who “Red” is? Your secret ex-boyfriend that you pulled a gun on last year and made it so we’re never allowed to have another Valentine’s Day carnival again!? Why on Earth do you care where he is or isn’t?
[Sam’s eyes widened slightly as Nikko spoke.] That was– I was right. [He knocked his hand against Nikko’s arm gently.] It was who I said it was!
>
Ya went an’ put ya self in danger ta marry him, that’s why I’m mad. -Just tellin’ me how nonsensical and preposterous I am tells me what ya think of me but I don’t give a shit.
Yeah that’s fuckin’ Red. Can’t get him outta my head, never gunna get him outta my head. It’s one or the other, Vitya or Schuy, [the name slipped out without him realizing.] Can’t be without ‘em both. Can’t do it Nikk, can’t.
What do you know blondie how do you know him!

Thirty days ago! Almost exactly! [Nikko was quick to shout back.] “Concerned” about what? The fact that you’re acting completely nonsensical right now!? [He scoffed and crossed his arms.] Since when does “fine” involve you throwing your research everywhere, huh? Since when does “fine” mean you can’t even take the three steps to throw a beer bottle away in the actual trash?
Who on Earth is “Red”? And is he “ignoring” you or is he “driving you up the wall”? Both are astonishingly preposterous reasons to ruin your life over, but I just want to know exactly how preposterous you’ve decided to become these days, Montgomery!
[Sam’s eyes widened over at Nikko. He’d started using the big words, which meant he was real pissed. He looked between them both, unsure of what he could even do at this point.]
>
“Just ‘cause I ain’t marryin’ people I’ve known five minutes an’ actin’ like ya better than ya brother ‘cause ya ain’t ended up at summer camp like the rest of us!” [Monty didn’t respond directly to any of Nikko’s questions but went on the attack instead.]
“I don’ give a shit about any’a that there’s no point Cristo’s gone Red’s gone ’am done.” [Monty cried out.] “Red! Ya know, from valentines day.” [He whispered barely loud enough for Nikko to hear.]

That is my real name, Montgomery! [Nikko yelled as he stopped in his tracks in the parking lot and turned back around.] Maybe if you hadn’t spent the last–Gods’ know how long–drinking yourself half to death, you would have already known that!
What’s wrong with me? What’s wrong with you! Your apartment looks like a crime scene! You’re spending more in beer than you are in textbooks! I haven’t heard from you in over a month–as if you don’t get phone calls inside–and then the moment you get released, you just want us all to act like there’s absolutely nothing wrong!?
[The more Monty talked, the more Sam wanted to shake him really hard. He stopped and stood beside Nikko.] And just in case that genius science brain of yours hasn’t caught up yet, I’ll answer your question. I’m here because I go where my husband needs me. And because he was so fucking shaken up by your shit, I was scared to let him drive by himself. Anymore third degree you want to give us for some reason?
>
“Yeah, like when the fuck ya got married? So fuckin’ concerned ya went an’ got married without tellin’ me huh?” [Monty shot back, now sounding more surprised than confused or aggressive as he followed Nikko outside but started to pace in front of him]. “I’m fine. ’am sure ya’d rather me drinkin’ than beatin’ the shit outta everyone. Red’s bein’ a bratty asshole ignorin’ me drivin’ me up the wall ‘am just lettin’ off steam! I don’t see why ya freakin’ out it’s only me!”

[Nikko sighed.] It says Nikkolai Evans, [he stressed. Normally, Nikko probably would have denied what was going on (or, at the very least, elected to not draw attention to it), but with the way Monty had been acting today, he wasn’t in much of a mood for it.
He signed the rest of the papers, handed them back to the secretary, and started to walk out without another word.]
[Sam had definitely been dreading having that particular conversation with Monty. But at the moment, his pure frustration was winning out over any fear he might have. Instead he just gestured towards the direction Nikko had walked off in, encouraging Monty to follow him.] Maybe try digging down and finding a little appreciation for your brother dropping everything to pick your ass up before I make you ride in the truck bed on the way home. It’s cold out, you know?
>
“I ain’t one for rules but I don’t want your ass thrown in jail for not usin’ ya real name Nikko,” [Monty laughed, looking quizzically at his brother who usually wasn’t one for simple mistakes for important things in his experience. Mont watched him walk out and he just became even more confused.]
“Ex-fucking-scuse me, you ain’t makin’ me do anythin’ Blondie, don’t tell me how ta talk to my brother. The fuck ya doin’ here anyway?” [Monty snatched his belongings off the desk and shoved the papers towards the officer and stormed out after Nikko and Sam.] “The fuck’s wrong with you two ta’day I’m the one just gettin’ outta a cell.”

[Nikko had to hold back a grimace when Monty showed up. As happy as he would normally be to see his brother, these circumstances obviously put a giant damper on things–and the fact that Monty seemed to be acting as if there was nothing of importance going on only managed to upset him even more.
He took a deep breath to calm himself, then quickly signed each page.] …Here, [Nikko grumbled, holding the papers out for Monty to take so they could switch.]
[Sam didn’t miss how stiff Nikko was in his body language. The two of them knew each other inside and out and he hated seeing him hurting, but even more so when he was trying so hard not to let himself feel it. Unable to do much about it right now though, he just turned to Monty and gave him a pointed look.] You’re welcome, Monty.
>
“Don’ look so sad Nikk, ‘am gettin’ out not gettin’ locked in.” [Monty tried to joke but it lacked some of his usual confidence. It was very fake, but Monty knew if he let out even one glimpse of his current messy feelings the flood gates would open and it would all pour out.] “Hey no problem man.” [Monty chuckled at Sam’s indignant look. He pulled the papers Nikko had already finished towards himself and with the pen just millimetres from the paper he paused.] “Who the fuck is N.Evans?” [Monty laughed] “Nevans”.

[Nikko leaned against Sam as they walked, doing his best to hold himself together.] I love you too, Sammie. So much.
[When they made it to the precinct, Nikko was quick to explain their situation to the secretary at the front desk and hand them the paperwork as well. It took a bit longer than Nikko would have liked, but eventually the items were verified and the secretary called down to get Monty released–with the warning that there would be quite a bit more paperwork for Nikko to sign once Monty made it to the front.]

[Monty was getting antsy as he waited in the holding area for Nikko to arrive. It probably wasn’t long but it felt like ages before the guard came back with his own clothes, finally able to change out of the yellow uniform.] “This way Prescott.” [The guard led Monty out of the holding area to the front desk where he spotted Nikko with Sam and that made him feel the smallest bit calmer. Before he had the chance to say hello to his brother properly a pile of papers were shoved at them.] “Nikk! ya made it, happy ya could find the place-” [But he was interrupted by the officer.] “I need both of you to sign these papers to say Mr Prescott here is being released in your presence and that the evidence of his student status and his address are not forged or otherwise tampered with to provide incorrect information to us.” [Monty grinned that fake smile and nodded as if it was merely an inconvenience rather than something important.]
“Whatever I just want ma shit back an’ be outta this place.” [He grumbled, beginning to sign his name on the papers given to him first while others for them both to sign were given to Nikko.]

Monty self-para 30 days prior to december 12 f2f with @nikkolai-prescott & @joiesamevans
It wasn't long after Vitya had been hauled back to Russia that whatever peace Monty had found with Vitya was gone and Monty was spiraling once again. Without an anchor, Monty was swallowed up by stormy seas, demons in his own mind that demanded to be drank away and numbed by whatever he could get his hands on. Then, seeing Schuy again, well that had just capsized him completely.
Monty had not expected Schuy to hold down that job, how had the redhead controlled himself enough to let all those men drool over him the way he did? In the back of his mind he had to hand it to his ex, he’d defied Monty’s expectations and managed to keep his cool.
On the other hand, coming face to face with his ex Monty had flown off the handle, used every trick in his arsenal to get Schuy back but he’d hardly blinked and that turned the pain into rage. He’d made it less than two feet out of the bar/club when he got into a fistfight with a stranger who’d been eyeing Schuy in his line of sight and that was all he remembered before waking up in a cell some hours later.
That night had been the first of 30 he would spend there before he could make bail due to his priors, recent at that. Maybe this was all self-sabotage, or maybe there was just no escaping being raised as a Prescott man, all he knew was things were going belly up and fast now he was alone again.

[Nikko sighed. So much for he and Sam celebrating tonight.] This is where you’ve been? [He sighed again; he should have known the moment he hadn’t heard from Monty after a few days, but his constant attempt to be optimistic had tricked him into thinking that maybe Monty had been safe and sound somewhere with Vitya this whole time.]
What time do I need to be there? [He asked shortly, not bothering for a second to hide how annoyed he was. When was his brother going to learn?]
>
“Saw Red again, got inta’ a fight after...” [Monty knew those heavy sighs and he knew nothing he could say would make Nikko less frustrated but 30 days in jail altered his sense of judgement.] “Okay but listen I don’ need a ride... well I do but I need ma’ school paperwork that proves ‘am student an’ research assistant an’ that I live on campus ‘fore they’ll let me leave. ‘s in the top draw of ma’ desk.

Sammie [Nikko playfully reprimanded, although it was followed up by a gentle giggle.] Do you wanna look for a place? It’s Tuesday, so I imagine getting a reservation shouldn’t be too difficul–[He was cut off by his phone ringing.
For a moment, Nikko froze, unsure if he should even bother checking the caller ID. If it was his father or one of his goons–especially right when he was getting ready to celebrate with his husband–it would probably break him.
However, something urge him to check anyway, so he awkwardly sat up, fished his phone out of his pocket, and when it appeared to just be a random Ohio area code number, cautiously brought his phone up to his ear.] …H-Hello…?
[Hearing the automated voice on the other side of the line, Nikko untensed, but audibly sighed.] …Yes, I’ll accept the charges…
> [Monty’s 30 days were finally up and he was anxious to get out. It was his second arrest in two years meaning this time he was forced to do a short sentence. Not only was he ready to get his freedom back but he was also nervous this new stain on his record would affect his status as a grad student and research assistant at Joie. Monty had managed to avoid burdening Nikko this time since there was no bail to be posted but now in order to leave he needed someone to pick him up.]
“Hey Nikk, listen can ya do me a favor?” [Hearing the line connect Monty tried for a jovial tone as if the recorded message hadn’t told Nikko exactly where he was.]
