Slight spoilers for folks that follow my YouTube but I've configured a bunch of freecam stuff and have been messing around with it for the last day or so, and have made some really neat discoveries:
Tumblr media
The entirety of the Eastlands is actually modeled in place, with all the locales relative to each other in full scale. Just not in full detail, as that would be insane.
Tumblr media
This actually makes a lot of sense as there's only one locale that actually requires a teleport transition to get in and out of (the Iceshard Cliffs), the rest are all completely walkable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here we have the first 3 locales of the game all within actual distance of each other!
Tumblr media
An overhead view of the Oilwell Basin; you kinda forget just how subterranean the region is.
Tumblr media
I really can't blame the people of Azuz for calling them cliffs. The bailey wall of Wyveria is no joke of a superstructure. It's not surprising that there's simply a teleport to mount the wall instead of having the player do so physically all the way from the Oilwell.
Tumblr media
The playable area known as the Iceshard Cliffs is at the very top of the Bailey, far away from most of the other locales. (Hirabami for scale).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition to the mystery rifts radiating out from Wyveria, there are also a concerning amount of craters surrounding the bailey.
Tumblr media
Anyways, have a good day.

Anyone else's Material Retrieval (Farm) look like this? I got really tired of having to micromanage everyone BUT the Wudwuds (who never let me down).

Note
I've not dug into the nitty gritty details myself but I feel like the RE engine just isn't good for large maps with a lot of stuff going on. Dd2 was also a mess at launch.
With my setup, I should be able to run Wilds on the High setting, but when it comes to the more intense stuff, the scarlet forest in the downpour, fighting arkveld in the sandtide, stc it really bogs down my performance. So I keep the game at medium most of the time
With DD2 the only bottleneck I encountered was Vernworth (the capital city), and to this day I'm not certain exactly what the bottleneck was; whether it was a GPU issue from the mesh density or a CPU from the NPC-entity density.
With Wilds I think it isn't necessarily an engine limitation, moreso that it's optimized for the PS5 as the priority, and a PS5 just does not run like a conventional PC; I just don't quite understand how, and whether it could be adjusted for PC at all.

The RE engine used to be so impressive technically, it's unbelievably frustrating how the REX engine is just so much worse. I know it fell off hard, but Exoprimal had entire tsunamis of dinosaurs thrown at players, and even 1080's could run it butter smooth. Rise ran well on the Switch, even better on PC.
What on Earth is going on with Monster Hunter Wilds. Is it because it's been developed predominantly for the PS5? It almost feels that way, especially with how updates have been pushed out. Or are there too many bloat features from the likes of UE5 and Nvidia that are bogging it down? I'd love someone with insight to indulge me.

Talk about a lightning round! I've been so busy editing that I forgot to share episode 3 of the play-through, so now I'm bundling it with episode 4.
