starter for: @forrest-hollowayââ location: forrestâs kitchen, late afternoon
When Molly came back to Crescent Harbor, she had been lost for a long time. The last few years were connected by things that had seemed like a good idea at the time - or the easiest way out - and now... Molly was spent. Showing up on Forrestâs doorstep had been a hail Mary if there ever was one, but standing in the doorway to the kitchen, having spent most of the night before listening to Elena talk about a show she was obsessed with? It felt like a step in the right direction for a change. âI promise I didnât just wake up,â Molly started, following the scent of something delicious and familiar closer. âI havenât done much, but I didnât just wake up.â
It was well into the afternoon, there wasnât much reason for anyone to think sheâd actually just woken up, but Molly was just thankful to have made it to her day off. Playing hostess at the brewery was an adventure of its own, and it only reminded her of the person whoâd wasted her life savings in LA a little bit. This mightâve been the first time sheâd actually earned a late morning that bled into a lazy day. âWhat smells so good? I didnât realize you could cook. I assumed âLena was just being nice when she said your chicken parm was the bomb.â

valentine--dupontâ:
There was something far more comforting about sitting in a coffeeshop and getting work done than hanging out in their flat all day. Maybe it was the smell of fresh coffee or the atmosphere of people chatting. Val liked being around others in general- even if they couldnât light a cigarette inside the cafĂ©. Still, they had a large iced cold brew on their desk, sunglasses down to cover their pale eyes. Hair tucked back out of the way and an old shirt theyâd picked by the texture- soft flannel, one of the older ones. From what they remembered, their assistant had said it was a nice grayish blue. Val had an earpod in, trying to listen to the recording of their conversation with the publisher (which theyâd recorded to make it easier to go back and edit), but they could hear someoneâs feet on the unfortunately squeaky floorboards of the little shop, approaching. âYâneed a spot to sit? I think thereâs an extra chair.â They werenât using too much of the table anyways. âThis place gets hoppinâ around lunchtime. I really lucked out.â Their Irish accent was thick on their tongue and they smiled, head turned in the direction of the sound.Â

Despite the fact that her older brotherâs house was as close to a safe haven as Molly had in this world, there were still times she wanted to get away. Not when he and Mollyâs sixteen year old niece were home, since that at least brought some semblance of normalcy to the chaotic circumstances Molly was still recovering from. But stuck there alone, wondering if she should finally unpack her suitcase and face the reminders of why sheâd had to pack it in the first place? Molly would rather stand in line and overload on caffeine and pastries than deal with those ghosts. And really, she shouldâve gone in with the assumption that she wouldnât be the only one in need of a caffeine fix, but there just hadnât been that kind of foresight in Mollyâs day so far.
Peering out at the full tables, Molly wondered what sheâd done to deserve an Irish guardian angel today. âYeah, actually. Thanks,â she started, setting down her mocha and the sugar cookie sheâd ordered. âWanna split the cookie? Figure thatâs the least I could do.â She broke the cookie in half, holding out the slightly larger piece for the other person in case they did in fact feel like something sweet.

BACKGROUND
Crescent Harbor native! Former child prodigy of fine art, called Kid Picasso by the Crescent Harbor Times in the early 2000s. Pushed into the spotlight by her mother after her parents fell out with Mollyâs older brother, never really recovered. Experienced several mental breakdowns throughout her late teens and early twenties, largely in part because of this early push into prominence.
Was homeschooled beginning in the middle of the fourth grade, but finished school at Evergreen High after vehemently insisting halfway through her sophomore year. Went to college in Los Angeles to try to continue her normal life, but all she ended up doing after her freshman year was party and get pushed back into the toxic cycle of her art career. Still spent eight years in LA.
Continued making art during this time and even had a second debut after (barely) graduating college, but there was a noticeable change in themes, style, composition, etc. and people in the art community around the globe absolutely hated it. Publications that had once heralded her as a genius doubled down on the cruelty in their critiques once they decided she had disappointed them.
Spent years trying to give people what they wanted, but lost hope and quit painting almost two years ago. Fell into a bad relationship that spanned those two years, and ruined her life for a terrible man. When her money ran dry, she ended up heartbroken, alone, and with nowhere to go.
Came back to Crescent Harbor a few weeks ago! Tried staying with her parents, but that was a mistake of epic proportions. Showed up on her older brotherâs doorstep and is starting over from scratch. Works as a hostess at Hop Notch Brewery to help out and is happy just to be home for once.
