Towa: The way the play was brought to life up there on stage thanks to so many different people, and the way all the actors were truly sparkling…

Towa: I realized I also want to be on stage. I want to shine like everyone did…

Towa: Maybe I’m being too simple and this is all just wishful thinking, but…

Towa: To come here and discover theater and figure out what I want to do, I feel like it was my destiny!

Tsuzuru: It’s quite the challenge to perform a one-man show with no experience, so ideally, you’d probably want at least four total troupe members.

Yahoo we made it through a whole week of questions! This one’s another character-based one: Do you have a favorite ensemble member? I know I don’t really pay attention to them as much as I wish I did, but I wonder if anyone has them as one of their faves!

I also think they are super competent (?) The other day I saw that they published on twt that they would lend the script of the play to the deaf people who are going to see the show so that they understand it!! Also during summer act2, the intro song uses water, so they appropriately warned that those in the front row might get water, I think they even gave them something to prevent the audience from getting wet(?) although I didn't really understand that part of the report xd

A3en was very funny, I really liked the localization >< I don't know much about adaptations but the references to pop culture for example were very funny…

In general I like all of them(?)!! I have some that I like more than others but in the end they are all the same work and I think they maintain good quality >< I would buy the light novels but it would be a waste for me to have them because I don't know Japanese, one day maybe…

AZAMI AZAMI AZAMI. i love him sm he's so little brother-shaped to me, i want to stand on a stepstool and pat his head and tell him he's doing a great job (and he'd hate that but teasing him is part of the fun). and i think most of us can agree that one of his cutest gap moe areas is his shyness about romance and specifically physical intimacy (yk hand-holding, kissing all that stuff). and i've seen some takes/interpretations on his attitude towards that kind of stuff, so i thought i'd just throw my two cents out there

tbh i don't see azami being romance- or sex-repulsed ("sex" here is very very broadly referring to physical intimacy from kissing to first base to the woohoo; i'm well aware that he's a minor but that doesn't mean he's a 5-year-old who knows nothing about sex and needs to be completely shielded from even the tiniest mention of it). you might be wondering, "but deli, he gets so flustered at the mere mention of hand-holding." and that is where i ask you to pause and hear me out:

the short answer is that i think azami is, simply, very painfully shy when it comes to matters of romance and especially physical intimacy, but he doesn't despise it.

in my view of azami, he doesn't really give an eff with the concepts of romance and intimacy as that—concepts. it's when it becomes personal to him that he becomes a flustered mess. remember when taichi was confiding in azami about his childhood love and how that led him to godza and then mankai? azami didn't go "OH MY GOD YOU HAD A CRUSH WTF THAT'S INDECENT". it's only when taichi started pressing him about his first kiss that he got embarrassed and went on that whole spiel about how people can only kiss after marriage and all that. why? bc taichi's childhood love had nothing to do with him, so it's something he could separate from himself. but questions about his first kiss? that was crossing a boundary that made the concept of "(romantic) love" personal to him so that made him flustered

the frohe weihnachten! story event, he was initially embarrassed about the event theme being "love" bc it was something he had to be involved in

we can speculate about the reasons why he's like this. the reason that the story gave us is that sakyo has similar beliefs too which he'd imparted to azami while raising him. but i think there's more to it than that.

one, his mom passed away when he was very young. and he knew (and knows) his parents loved each other very much, but he didn't get to see a lot of it bc his mom was hospitalised and his dad was busy with work. his father never remarried, sakyo presumably didn't get bitches bc he was still pining for izumi the entire time and was also probably more focused on work and raising azami than pursuing romance, and tbh i don't know how many of the other ginsenkai members had partners, let alone brought their partners to the base and behaved like a couple in front of young azami. BASICALLY what i'm trying to get at is that azami probably only knows about (romantic) love as a concept but hasn't seen much of it in practice, so overall it's probably something foreign to him. and it's natural human instinct to react with wariness to things, and in azami's case his wariness translates into embarrassment

two, similar to most of his troupe members, azami isn't very good when it comes to emotional vulnerability which is something that being romantically involved and intimate with someone generally requires. as we know, his two father figures are both emotionally constipated men, and his mother—who, from what little we've seen of her, was better at expressing her emotions and showing emotional vulnerability—is no longer in his life (sayuri izumida i miss you every day), so yeah he hasn't had a lot of role models of emotional vulnerability growing up.

and we have to take into account his age too. he was 14-going-on-15 when he was introduced, and now he's 16. being a teenager is rough, i left teenhood a while back yet i still remember the Horrors of being 15. it's like you're trying to build an Adult House with Adult Bricks but most, if not all, the tools you have are Child Tools. god idk if that analogy worked but BASICALLY azami, like every teen, is experiencing adult emotions and thoughts but he only has a child's capacity for dealing with said adult emotions and thoughts. i was a fairly well-adjusted teenager and i still had moments where i was irrational and emotional and just a mess. what more of a teenage boy who doesn't have a maternal figure in his life and his two father figures, ESPECIALLY the biological one, aren't exactly shining role models of emotional vulnerability/emotional management? (not dunking on sakyo btw imo he's doing better than mr izumida) anyway, my point is that romance and intimacy are generally Adult Bricks, but azami as he is right now still only has Child Tools for dealing with them, so naturally he's gonna react the way a child does: avoiding, deflecting, protesting, arguing. to me, that doesn't necessarily mean he's repulsed by romance and physical intimacy; he just currently lacks the maturity to deal with such topics.

and what would maturity require? him not deflecting or avoiding the topic, but rather sitting down and trying to understand it and decide firmly where he stands on it. and it'll take time for that. time, and maybe some reliable adults talking to him about it to help him open up his mind and process first, judge later.

also FWIW, there is evidence for azami not necessarily being repulsed by romance. the my worst wedding event story revolved around azami helping sakyo's mother overcome her reservations about wearing a wedding gown and formally commemorating her remarriage to her new husband at sakyo's sister's request. in the frohe weihnachten! story event, azami helps misumi's former classmate do up her makeup to give her the courage to ask her crush out despite his own initial embarrassment and reservations. perhaps these are little steps the writers are taking to help azami understand romance and become more comfortable with the idea.

super long post but the main thought i started with is: i don't really expect azami to wake up one day and suddenly drop the whole "no hand-holding before engagement" thing, but i think over time and particularly if he becomes romantically involved with someone (as for me, i ship him with kumon but that's another thing) he'll have to face his embarrassment and reservations about physical intimacy and decide if "no hand-holding before engagement" really is a boundary he wants to stick to, or if it was just the defence mechanism of a teenager who didn't really understand romance and intimacy and is thus willing to be more flexible with his boundaries

okay hands down banri's sexiest moment in mankai stage is in autumn 2022, specifically the scene where azami got into that car 'accident'. literally everyone else in the scene was freaking out—kumon (on the phone) was seconds away from spiralling into a panic attack and was blaming himself for the accident, matsukawa wasn't really helping and yelling in panic at kumon which only added to the poor boy's panic, sakyo stumbled and couldn't get up to help. banri took in the whole scene, saw that they needed someone to stay calm and get shit done, and so he took the phone from matsukawa and very deliberately used a low, even voice to ask kumon which hospital azami was at and then told kumon to stay with azami. throughout the whole of autumn 2022 we see banri grow into his role of the leader (helping azami with his audition, teaching azami the fun of acting, hearing sakyo out after his spat with azami) but that scene for me really solidified to me that banri was no longer that bratty boy but growing into a level-headed, responsible young man who can take charge of the situation 🤌🏻
