Hello, I am Mohannad Al-Khatib, a journalist from Gaza. The occupation bombed our house and completely destroyed it, including all its possessions and memories, and with it they erased all feelings of safety and comfort from our hearts. With it, they demolished all the houses in the neighborhood and removed them from existence. Then, a week after the war, they bombed and demolished my family’s house with all its dreams and hopes, filling us with oppression and sadness to the last of us. A month ago, they bombed the tower that houses my private apartment and the restaurant that is our source of livelihood. This restaurant that I have owned and managed for years, has included dozens of workers. Today, I live in a tent in the city of Rafah, away from my homeland, my roots, my home, my work and my life, a distance of more than twenty kilometers. This distance separates me from ten years of toil, diligence, effort, continuous work, construction and development. I have worked my entire life without stopping, without getting tired or bored, for everything to end in days, and I do not see the horizon of returning soon. Today, as I am the first and last person responsible for my family, all my ambition and effort are summed up with all my experience. Experiences, insight, and foresight. All my thinking is focused on how to survive with my family from the massive, free death that is spreading everywhere.
