something i think would be cool in spiderman 4 is exploring how breakable or unbreakable the spell is. specifically how it could vary from person to person. like for the general public it’s a pretty strong solid spell that would be hard to break because most of the general public doesn’t have many memories of him to begin with so it’s easy for the spell to stay in place because it’s not going to have much effect on their day to day lives and memories. but for ned and mj it seems like it would be a relatively fragile spell because of how interwoven their lives and memories are with him. which would presumably create major gaps in their memories making it relatively easy to break even accidentally because even a little bit of digging would lead to them figuring it out.
in the same vein i think it could be cool/interesting if mj or ned finding out that peter is spider-man/spiderman is peter is the key to the spell being broken /getting back their memories. like they’re figuring it out but they don’t have all the pieces to put everything together or jog their memories until the identity reveal and that’s what breaks the spell.
i also think that paralleling this peter should decide that he’s going to tell them and then find out that they have to remember/figure it out on their own in order to break the spell/get their memories back and he can’t tell them bc they’ll never remember if he does(which if this sounds familiar i have mentioned it before lol) so he decides to try to help them remember/figure it out without telling them. maybe there’s another consequence to telling them outright that’s more dangerous to serve as more motivation to helping them remember instead of telling them outright.
like he can plant seeds by asking about stuff like mj’s necklace or other things to poke holes in the spell and he can hint at things to help them along but he can’t actually tell them what happened whether verbally or written.
idk i’m just yapping but i think it could be a cool angle to explore

something that I think could be an interesting concept for a hypothetical/potential fourth spider-man movie would be peter regretting his choice to not tell ned and mj everything and deciding that he’s going to tell them but he’s going to learn more about the spell, how it works, and how to reverse it if possible before he does, so that he has as much information as possible, as well as finding the best way to tell them everything while apologizing for it being later than they planned. so during this process he finds out it’s possible for them to get their memories back but they have to remember on their own/he can’t tell them or else they’ll never get their memories so he has to come up with a way to try to jog their memories, and is dealing with whatever villain at the same time.
at the same time mj and ned regained their memories on their own after he left the bakery/coffee shop (maybe not all at once but maybe over the course of a couple days) and have been conducting their own investigation and are trying to track him down and find him so they can reunite but also so they can find out why he didn’t tell them. bonus points if this leads to them stumbling across critical information about the aforementioned main villain that helps peter later on
so when he comes back to the bakery one day and starts a conversation with them they’re a little confused about where it’s going but entertain it, until peter asks mj about her necklace trying to jog her memory and mj kinda cracks and is like it’s from you, you idiot and accidentally reveals that they both remember before asking why he didn’t tell them and peter having to explain everything.
idk i just thought the idea of them having kind of parallel storylines/arcs that lead to them reuniting would be really interesting especially with the whole “they don’t know we know they know” aspect of they all have their memories but they don’t know why peter hasn’t told them and peter doesn’t know they know

something i will absolutely never get over is the way peter and mj say each other’s names/yell out for each other in no way home after she falls/is caught by peter 3. it’s such an underrated but phenomenal moment. like the total desperation in his voice because it’s right after the green goblin stops him from catching her and he has no clue if she’s alive??? the relief that takes over his entire body when he hears and then sees her???
the equal desperation in her voice and the way she runs to find him/assure him she’s okay because the last she saw of him the goblin had taken him for a ride??? the way he hugs her (and ned) as soon as she’s within arms reach after everything?? the equal need to make sure that the other is okay will do it for me every time
i always say that as much as i loved andrew’s spiderman saving her i will always feel robbed not getting to see tom’s peter catch her and what that moment would look like but this moment does make up for it.

oh nothing just thinking about the scene in no way home after may dies where mj tells peter she’s not going anywhere and how in that specific moment the thought has probably crossed his mind that ned and mj could’ve died too if he hadn’t convinced them to hide the box instead of coming with him and now i need a minute.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please, for your consideration… MJ Watson! Most notably known for her recently booked appearance in Secret Hospital, she-“ Peter announces as they walk up to the table. “Will you stop?!” MJ laughs, trying to grab at Peter’s arms and lower them from where he’s holding them out, presenting her to their friends with grandeur. He is acting like she’s booked a lead on an Emmy worthy show rather than a recurring role on some daytime soap opera.

Six months ago, Peter Parker was declared killed in action on his way back from his last mission. MJ knows it’s a cover up, and nothing’s going to stop her from finding out the truth–not time travel, not murder bots, and certainly not the woman MJ knows is responsible for his disappearance. But 14-year-old Michelle Jones-Watson? Yeah, she might complicate things.
A PeterMJ Adam Project AU. Rated M. In progress.
Chapter Four.
Meanwhile, she hadn’t lasted an hour before making the mindboggling stupid decision to seek refuge in her childhood home, dragging her fourteen-year-old self into it and possibly fucking over the timeline despite everything Peter had gone through to keep it in tact. And the worst part is, she had known better. She had taken the steps to make sure she knew better. She had memorized Peter’s spare copy of the protocols, made Ned quiz her until she knew them inside and out, and still she had fucked everything up.
Except no. That’s not the worst part.
The worst part is knowing how goddamn selfish she is. Because she’d do it all again—break every last rule there is—if it meant getting him back.

personally, since peter decided against telling ned and mj who he is because he saw the cut on mj’s forehead and thought they’d be safer without him, i think sm4 should have a scene post ned and mj getting their memories back where peter knows they remember but is still trying to keep his distance because he’s scared of them getting hurt (and he communicates this to them and they’re trying to get him to see that he’s wrong)
but mj somehow gets involved in an incident completely unrelated to spider-man that peter ends up coming to help her and similarly to the statue of liberty incident she comes out of it relatively unscathed aside from like a scratch or two and peter is freaking out over her being even slightly wounded but it’s the wake-up call he needs to realize that him staying out of their lives isn’t preventing anything bad from happening to them and they all get to be happy again
