I saw a video on TT talking about how Neteyam is actually quite childish and I wanna make a post on it so yeah

Although he’s protective and acts older than he is for his younger siblings, it was probably only a after sky people returned thing (idk I haven’t read the comics)

We see multiple times that he’s rebellious, almost like he can’t help himself but act just like his younger brother. He wants to be a strong and respected warrior but he feels the only way to do that is to be the hero no one expected. Heading straight into danger whether it be along side his brother or to save his siblings. He knows it’s probably better to just tell his parents about Lo’ak going to save Payakan than going out to get Lo’ak but he does so anyways. He wants the praise from his parents of “Lo’ak was gonna do something stupid but I got him and came back with him unharmed! See? I’m worthy of your respect!”

The video also mentioned how he’s bad at reading the room, he constantly tries to lighten the mood by teasing Lo’ak which just gets a bad reaction. He doesn’t really know how to handle situations so he tries to just either push the blame onto himself or lighten the mood.

I like to think he secretly loves to do more “childish” things, he probably likes bodysurfing just like Ao’nung when he’s in the reef, and he probably likes running around the forest and flying around with his Ikran. I also hc he likes to find and try to pet hexapedes. Never works though considering how jumpy they are.

Overall yeah he’s a protecter but he’s also gentle and childish, he loves to act like a kid his age just like everyone else, but I think he’s also jealous of Lo’ak and maybe even Kiri because they aren’t the eldest and they don’t have this pressure to act like an adult, especially since they haven’t passed the rite of passage, but he has. For Lo’ak it’s always “well that’s just Lo’ak we should’ve expected that” when he does something rebellious or stupid. But when Neteyam does it it’s “I expected more from him”.
