thinking about how when the sol first attached to the Hephaestus and Kepler went to talk to Cutter one of the first things he said was that Jacobi hadn’t done anything wrong…. Firstly i know what you are…. Secondly while everyone else was mostly afraid of never getting back to earth or dying or whatever, Kepler’s biggest fear is Goddard. He was never afraid of dying. Maybe that’s because he knew better than anyone else what they were capable of, but maybe that’s because he is more intrinsically tied to Goddard than the rest of them were. To everyone else Goddard was just a shitty company to work for but Goddard is like, everything to Kepler.

And yeah, I don’t love death as a redemption arc. But for the first time, Kepler chose humanity over Goddard. Who knows what happened after they left on the sol? He was left alone with the man he feared worse than anything. But for the first time, he did the brave thing. The right thing.

Idk man i just really fucking like that joke. A really good narrative piece in the same episode that brought you “the artist formerly known as Warren Kepler.” Really love the destruction of characters at the hand of Goddard Futuristics.

Kepler is one of the highest on the food chain before the actual big guns show up but he’s still just a pig. They’re still gonna pick at him. He’s not going to be the exception to Goddard Futuristics fucking over everyone they work with rule. Theoretically he knows that no one’s exempt from this but i dont think that stops him from getting comfortable.

It could happen to him, they could fuck him over, leave him to die, but that’s just a hypothetical. It’s easier to think they won’t use you until there’s nothing left when they only take you down one leg at a time.
