Afeni Shakur || The Life & Legacy Of A Black Revolutionary
Saint Heron writes:
During my senior year in college, I took a Black Radicalism course that focused on the pivotal movements and united fronts that Blacks formed throughout our existence. It was there that I had gotten a deeper look into the life of Afeni Shakur. Up until that point, I had thought of her only as the mother of the late Tupac, who’s rise to fame was at the hands of her son. Before there was Tupac Shakur, there was his mother, Afeni, and at times, her narrative is often lost and intertwined into his. But, peeling back the layers of motherhood, Afeni was an activist, a Black militant, a revolutionary and a voice for those who couldn’t speak.
Today we mourn the loss of one of the most influential Black women in our culture’s history at age 69 as we remember her legacy.
