Childhood headcanon.
Even though he was still very young when their parents died, it fell on him to both earn money to sustain himself and Akane but also to raise his little sister who was even younger than he was. From this day onward, he has dedicated his entire life to her, using all the money he had so she had enough to eat, to dress and could keep a normal life by going to school even if it meant cutting from what he got for himself. After their parents' death Aoi never went to school again, working to give the best Akane could get, helping her to do her homework and raising her as a father would. It always got harder when the end of the year arrived because he also had the presents from Santa to offer her but he always managed to save enough money for them even if it meant cutting meals for lunch when Akane wouldn't see.
Anger headcanon.
The reason why Aoi is very prone to anger is because he has been put in a very stressful situation as a young child, needing to earn a living and raise his sister. It brought him his constant sense of restlessness and stress as, being a practical person, he couldn't stand here and be beaten up by life. Even if things were hard, he always did his best and that's why, whenever something doesn't go his way, he's prone to overreacting because, now that he's an adult, he has a bit more room for failure (well in fact no, he doesn't when it comes to Crash Keys) but when he was a child, he had to succeed no matter what at bringing money and raising Akane.
Body headcanon
Aoi works out and takes a lot of care of his body and appearance in general. Since he often stays at home to work and have to move quite often as both his sister and him are wanted, he can't exactly have large weights at home but whenever he has time or needs to calm down his anger, he often workouts, doing stretching, push-ups, abdominal crunches... He also takes great care of his face, has many products and even owns some make-up and concealer that he doesn't hesitate to use if he feels his skin doesn't look perfect.
#rainbowkouji#ask#headcanon#I have no idea if those are painfully ridiculous or as close to canon as you can get#hahahahahahahaha

Mental state headcanon
While Aoi is in a near constant state of restlessness, he is relatively mentally stable unless triggered as he almost always let out his frustrations before they pile up. The smallest upsetting detail can make him go instantly mad but his reactions will more often than not only be verbal ones. He's very sensitive to things regarding Akane though and will completely loose his mind if someone might even think of doing anything to her. I wouldn't consider him sane though as he can become (and fake perfectly being) a murderous psychopath when enraged.

"Good." Aoi let out a sight he didn't know he had been holding as Akane's words were a relief to him. First because she was safe, would be coming home with him and wouldn't take more of that drug but also because it seemed that, despite her words that had caused him to overreact, she seemed to bear the exact same hatred for Gentarou Hongou as they always had even despite the recent events. He was and would most likely remain unaware of the details of time his sister and Cradle Pharmaceutical's CEO spent this past night but as long as her opinion of him, despite her wish to save him, remained unchanged, he was pleased.
Noticing the shuffling at the same time as the brunette, azure eyes widened as they glared down, to Hongou who had awoken much sooner than the white-haired man would have expected considering he had been unconscious and had been given a Soporil dose albeit a small one. As he had been on his knees right next to the middle-aged man's head, he could have easily prevented him to move if he would have wished to but didn't do so, scoffing instead and raising from the ground to stand up.
"Well, looks like he's awake and alive. Now what?" Aoi asked of his sister since it had been her plan in the first place, now wishing to know what they were to do considering he highly doubted Akane would want to leave just now as she was injured and would probably want to make sure Hongou didn't die just yet. "Want me to help you go back on the couch?" He headed toward the brunette still lying on the ground, extending an arm toward her.
There was a thick fogginess that clouded his mind, enveloping over him like a blanket and preventing movement or consciousness. Sleep dragged him down, whispering sweet nothings into his ear - "You need this, sleep is good, sleep, sleep, sleep-" and managed to keep him under, keep him safe in the darkness for a good amount of time.
However, he was finally beginning to return to consciousness, jump-starting his senses and alerting him to everything he’d forgotten as he slept. The pain of his wounds bit into him, his shoulder the worst of it as the blade had sunk into the flesh the bullet had already torn through. Blade. Bullet. The memories of the attacks had returned, as well as who he had experienced them with.
Kurashikis.
He expected to awake in the same position he’d blacked out in, face-down on the carpet, blood pooling around and the desire to live stronger than his hatred for Aoi Kurashiki.
Akane had taken pity on him, or needed him for something - or something of that caliber. He was alive for a reason, he was sure, just as he had been during the Nonary Game.
Letting out a soft noise, Hongou’s eyes blinked open, shutting a few times because of the light before they truly started to focus. Two people - faces unknown, of course, but he had a guess - staring down at him. Suddenly, he felt disgusting and embarrassed, and he wasn’t sure why. He attempted to sit up, only to have his stomach and his shoulder - God, his shoulder - protest with a burning pain. He hissed, trying to bring an arm up to latch onto something (as if it’d help somehow), but could not.
He merely laid there, unsure what was going on.

Aoi's mind was blank, not being able to think of any other issue than his distress as well as the amount of pain his body was currently in, the matter with Light or the killing he had done things he preferred not to remember for the time being and for as long as he could avoid. He was conscious though that it was only a matter of time before Akane would mention both issues.
"No, no Soporil, regular painkillers will do." The white-haired man hated this drug, not only because it had been created by Gentarou Hongou but also because it was strong, especially in liquid form to inject and that Aoi didn't trust it the least, not knowing what could be side-effects of it, not talking about overdose that could have killed just anyone. Perhaps was he paranoid but he had always hated strong medicine and would avoid their use as much as he possibly could, the drug being manufactured by Cradle Pharmaceutical being one more excuse not to wish to take it no matter the amount of pain his body was in.
The white-haired man couldn't help but let out a groan of annoyance as his sister immediately brought back the matter of his last mistake even though he knew full well it was something that had to be taken care of as fast as possible.
"Gimme that!" While Aoi didn't want to make the call, he figured out it would be much easier for him to explain directly to anyone on site rather than having Akane serving as an intermediary between both, extending his arm toward the brunette so she could handle him the phone. "I'm not feeling better but I'll make the call."
Akane had no idea what was going on in her brother’s mind, but all that was running through hers was the fact that she had to take care of him while getting rid of whatever evidence he’d left at the scene. She took her time before she gave him a nod, turning over to disappear into their bathroom.
"Do you want to sleep? Soporil?" she called out from the other side of their apartment. "Or would you like regular painkillers? Either is fine."
"Also, I’d suggest we call one of the others to order them to dispose of the evidence. If you tell me where the incident took place, I can do that, too. It’ll be alright. It’s not the first time we’re cheating the gallows." Akane didn’t wait for Aoi’s response. As she returned to her brother, she’d retrieved everything — Pills that numbed the pain, Soporil in its liquid form in case he wanted some, a sterile canula and an hypodermic needle as well as their phone to contact members of their organisation. The matter of Light and him was pushed aside for now. Temporarily, but it was nice to not worry about it for some time. Of course she wasn’t getting rid of her worries - The old ones were replaced by new problems, but at least these could be solved easily. "Or do you want to make the call yourself if you feel better?"

Azure eyes intently stared at amethyst pools as Akane met his reproachful gaze. While Aoi certainly wasn't gonna blame her for her actions, he couldn't help but be displeased as, especially if used directly with a syringe, Soporil was a powerful drug and he wouldn't trust a use, particularly a repeated one, of it as there was no way to tell what could be its side effects aside memory loss. Nothing bad had happened and, even though his sister had been injured, she was doing fine at the moment but he couldn't help but feel glad that he was now here to take care of her even though it had been contrary to her orders.
"I see..." Akane's words did make sense even though he didn't like the least the fact that she had spent the night here with Hongou and even if it had been a measure to ensure both came unscathed from their ordeal, there were many reasons why the white-haired man was far from happy about her using this drug. "As long as you don't take anymore of it." Since there wasn't much he could do about what had already occurred and since the brunette seemed to be doing fine despite her wound, he had no reasons to be pissed off at her, mostly upset that she hadn't directly called him considering her state, especially since she had contacted one of their subordinates instead.
Thanks to their teamwork, it wasn't long before most of Hongou's injuries were covered by bandages, preventing him from loosing even more blood even though they hadn't particularly been throughout considering their lack of time.
"Feeling sorry for this asshole? Fuck I wouldn't! He had it coming! No idea why he saved you but I don't trust him. Who knows what he planned to do once he had recovered?!" Aoi was less than pleased to see her reaction as well as to hear her words as he didn't regret the least his actions. He was well aware that she had implied irony but the mere thought that she had "almost pitied him" was enough to make him sick.
Akane gave him a nod of approval once he started helping her, then turned back towards the man. She was caught up in enwrapping a smaller wound on his other arm as Aoi spoke up again. The brunette lifted her chin, met his eyes and stared at him idly for a few seconds. She shouldn’t have mentioned that they'd taken Soporil, but in her hurry, she'd completely forgotten about it. As if she were nervous, Akane bit down on her bottom lip and nodded - It made her look like a child that was being scolded by its big brother, even if she was far from a little girl.
"Yes, we were both exhausted. It was the only way to ensure both of us slept. He could have attacked me in my sleep and vice versa without the drug." To be fair, she couldn’t have done anything with her leg injury, but it was to illustrate her point. "I wasn’t thrilled to take it, either." She was glad Aoi didn’t seem to be too mad. Truth be told, she’d be able to understand if he was. Soporil only embodied an additional threat and Hongou could have given her anything, but it’d been the only way. Once her brother had lifted the unconscious man’s body, Akane went about it skilfully and wrapped the gauze around his exposed torso, securing the bandages with a knot every here and there. "The irony is ridiculous, really," Akane mentioned out of nowhere, a gentle chuckle falling from her lips.
"He saved me and got this—" She was referring to the wounds her brother had inflicted. "—In return. I could almost feel sorry, but then I remember it’s Hongou.”

Aoi stopped for a few seconds upon feeling his sister's insisting gaze on him, looking back at her, seeing her disapproval even before she could speak. She did have a point considering the numerous cuts on Hongou's body as well as his quick loss of blood though and as much as he would have preferred to do it the regular way, he would follow Akane's instructions for the time being, not particularly minding much not spending too much time mending to the injured man's wounds.
"Ok, ok. Gimme some of these." Aoi took some unused bandages lying next to Akane and started wrapping Hongou's arm to his shoulder as the brunette continued speaking, not loosing any time as, like his sister had said, it wasn't improbable that he would bleed to death or that he would wake up sooner than expected considering the low dose of Soporil he had been given, meaning that they had quite a limited time to treat him. However...
"What the fuck? Seriously Akane you took that drug? Why? Because of your wound?" Aoi stopped for a few seconds, turning his head toward his sister, azure eyes widening in confusion. While the Soporil had been helpful on more than one occasion to organize the second Nonary game and would also be for their future plans, using it was something he preferred not to do if it could be avoided, not liking much the fact that Akane had used it.
"But whatever, let's do this." The white-haired man then moved to lift Hongou's shoulders so the brunette could easily wrap bandages around his torso as it was his most wounded area as well as the place he was loosing more blood.
Akane’s eyes fixed on her brother and she gave him an intent stare, followed by a shook of her head. She would explain soon, but right now the brunette had to focus on treating Hongou’s wounds. Before she spoke up to tell him about her reasoning, Akane turned back towards the unconscious man and proceeded to enwrap his injuries.
"We don’t have time for that. I don’t want to risk him bleeding to death, so instead of making sure he’s not getting an infection we should decrease or stop the flow of blood. Besides—"
"I only gave him a small dose of Soporil. He’s bound to wake up really soon." As much as she’d want him to remain asleep for as long as possible, Akane couldn’t do that. She hadn’t considered it at first, but with both of them having taken doses of the anesthetic before, he could involuntarily overdose on it. One of the side effects was memory loss, but she couldn’t be sure of what else the drug was capable of doing. "We did take Soporil ealier as well," the woman revealed, thus explaining her choice. "I am not sure how long it takes for his body to metabolise the drug, so I couldn’t give him a regular dosis. Might have resulted in an overdose."

Aoi held his sister tighter, ignoring the physical pain as it was but a secondary information to him at the moment, his distress proving to be much harder to deal with than the ache caused by his wounds. For a few moments, in Akane's comforting embrace, he could try to forget everything that had happened and all they had yet to discuss, relaxing a bit after all the stress that had built up these past days though his tears didn't stop just yet.
The white-haired man had dealt with his sister's anger on more than one occasion but her words had never felt so hurtful before, his breakdown most likely to be explained by the accumulation of problems that had arose in such a short period of time as well as his pitiful physical state that didn't improve things much.
Aoi buried his head even further in the crook of her neck upon feeling the gentle touch on his arm, intently listening to her words. He was aware that things were not gonna be alright considering all that needed to be done for their project as well as the mess he had caused but he didn't dwell on it for the time being, considering that no matter what was to unfold, they would remain together, which is more than he could hope for.
He had been starting to feel better when Akane let go of her hold and even though the white-haired man missed the warmth and the closeness, her proposition seemed tempting as it also made him realize in how much physical pain he was at the moment.
"Yeah, I might need some."
Akane accepted their closeness wordlessly and tightened the embrace she was holding her brother in, all while making sure to not hurt him unnecessarily. Even though their situation was terrible and they still had the matter about Light to discuss, Akane felt good holding her brother like this. It was almost as though she could repay him for what he’d done for her in the past. Almost. He’d naturally done much more than she could ever return.
For the next time, she’d keep in mind to bottle up some of her anger if it was directed at Aoi. She could snap at anyone and she certainly didn’t care about one’s tears — Unless it was her brother. Then again, she just wasn’t an easily forgiving person. Resentfulness was an undeniable part of herself. "Exactly." Slender fingers brushed the skin on his arm, gently running up and down. "It’ll be alright." It wasn’t only a manner of speaking to make him feel better; being the person she was, Akane had already an idea how to get rid of the evidence her brother had left at the scene. In addition, she’d once again talk to him about Light once this was over. Everything was going to be alright, and she’d be winning her brother back. "I know it’s much, but neither of us is alone. Now—" The brunette shifted beneath his arm and the blankets.
"Do you want some painkillers?"

No matter what needed to be done, Aoi wished to stay until the very end with his sister as saving people from the Radical-6 outbreak was not only her duty but also his. None of them could die here or be imprisoned, that he knew as much as Akane did but for the time being those thoughts were only distant ones as pain seemed a more pressing issue to his body and mind. Their fight wasn't over and once he would calm down, they would have much to discuss and to agree on as his breaking down was only momentary... unlike all the problems that lingered that the Kurashiki siblings needed to solve somehow.
As his sister laid down next to him, under the covers, wrapping her arms around him, he laid his head on the crook of her neck, trying to calm himself down though tears kept flowing down his cheeks as he heard her gentle words, Akane's close presence still being a comforting one to the distressed man.
The gentle petting of his hair was soothing as was the kiss on his forehead and he could feel himself calming down even if only a little. He realized from her words that, for some reason, this week had been a particularly stressful one and even thought they had been though many nerve-racking periods so far, none had ended up in such a way before.
"Yeah... At least we have each other..." Aoi's voice wasn't more than a whisper as wrapped an arm around Akane's frame, shifting a bit closer to her despite the pain of his wounds, the closeness bringing him some comfort he needed more than anything at the moment.
There wasn’t much she could do. All the stress the project caused, the sleepless nights as well as their argument and her cutting words must have been too much for her brother. She wouldn’t have seen a reason to stop if it wasn’t him - But his tears hurt her, and she never wanted to see him like this. Her presence was what caused pain and misery, she was the true venom and her brother’s downfall. But what was she supposed to do? She had to save six billion people - Ending her life for the better was not an option.
"It’s okay," she whispered gently, her wrath vanishing into thin air. Despite their prior and somehow still on-going fight, Akane sounded as gentle as she used to and as she carefully wrapped her arms around her brother, she knew it was her turn to comfort him. How many times had he held her younger self in order to make the nightmares, the faces and voices vanish? Countless of time; it should be okay to repay him now. "We’re going through a rough patch, a stressful period. It’ll be alright, Aoi."
A sleeve-covered hand ran through his white hair, followed by a pair of reddish lips that planted a fleeting kiss on his forehead. She couldn’t say she was the best at calming people down, but for Aoi, she had to try. "We’ll always have each other."

"Fuck! No I don't!" Those were empty words as the white-haired man's actions had made things much worse than they should have been in the first place. He was aware that their project was everything and that for the sake of its success, they needed to keep a low profile as they already were wanted but it had never be his intention to compromise their plans all with his actions even if he eventually did.
While Aoi's thoughts were now clearer than they had been when he had attacked those three men, as he was dealing with pain, both physical from his injured and mental from Akane's words, his mind had a hard time processing everything that should have been done at this very moment to ensure both of their safeties in the near future.
The white-haired man would have never considered his sister as one to abandon him until this very moment but after her repeated warnings when they had communicated by text messages while dealing with his affair with Light as well as the accusations she was currently making, had made him doubt his belief. Even though it was because of a stupid mistake, he had never seen Akane so upset at him and at this very moment and since she had ever reason to, he would be able to understand if she was to walk away
"My words mean nothing? Then what do you even want me to do?" The crackling in Aoi's voice was obvious but he didn't even try to hide it as he replied to the incrimination. As the brunette said, he might not have been sorry for his acts but in the physical state he was currently in, there was nothing he could do as moving even his arms proved to be a shore for him.
Tears cascaded down the white-haired man's cheeks as moments passed, not being able to bear this situation any longer, simply trying to hide the pain on his features as much as he could, only waiting for his sister to deliver a final blow. However, despite their argument, it never came, and even though he had heard Akane approaching him, he jumped to the touch as she gently laid a hand on his back, the comforting words that came afterwards being enough for him to finally break down in sobs.
"Oh, I piss you off? Is that why you’re trying to get both of us into prison?!" Her response had been louder than she wanted it to be, but Akane could hardly hold herself. They’d planned everything out so carefully, they both knew how much was at stake, and yet he was risking that all just to get his anger out?
"I’m not having that discussion with you right now. If you’d been listening to me, you’d have realize how ridiculously wrong your words are. But we’re not talking about that right now." In contrary to Aoi, Akane was - despite her anger - still remaining calculating and predicting. How to get rid of the evidence, how of Light, how to nurse Aoi back to health; those were all things she had to think about quickly. "Yes, you’re causing nothing but trouble," the woman didn’t see any sense in lying to him, and lately, it had been the truth. All Aoi’d done was making her, their life harder, which resulted in him being an additional burden. However, his words stung more than anything he’d done or brought about. Leaving him? Did she seem like the person to abandon the one she loved due to obstacles? Or because he wasn’t "useful" anymore? Oh well, maybe she seemed like exactly that kind of person. Maybe she was — But her brother was an exception. "What the hell are you going on about?" She simply dropped the matter of abandoning him. Of course she wasn’t going to, no matter how badly he slipped up, but it felt wrong to reassure him of that. Too lovely, too much like a soap opera or a reality show. Too unrealistic.
"Stop apologising. You’re not sorry, and your words mean nothing." Even Akane had to admit her statement was hard and, considering he was already at his worst, as powerful as yet another gun shot. "Show me you’re sorry. Think of a way to get rid of the evidence and stop causing trouble." An uncomfortable moment of silene settled upon the two. Once she’d gotten the time to ponder on her words, Akane realised just how much she’d kicked over the traces. Her brother wasn’t only physically hurt, he’d also had to suffer emotionally. Was that what she wanted? No. If she were a little girl, she’d have drawn him something. As an adult, however, she simply rose, approached her brother, crouched down next to him and rested her hand on his back. "Aoi, I’m.. I’m here." She was the living representation of surprise - These words, spoken as calmly and softly as she could, were meant to comfort, not to hurt.
"And please don’t say stupid things like I’d be leaving. I wouldn’t, okay? I’m here with you forever."

Aoi didn't need to open his eyes to know exactly of his sister's reaction, being painfully aware that, no matter his state she wouldn't pity him as he had brought it upon himself. He, himself understood that what he had done was something unforgivable and that he should have stopped himself... If only he hadn't been blinded by his anger. The white-haired man had expected Akane to leave him be after hearing his words so he wasn't surprised the least when she got away from him to sit on the couch instead.
"Why would I do that? Simple! Because you pissed me off! I can't even do anything that's not related to this organization and our plans! That's important and I'll support you but why the hell won't you allow me to have my fun on the side?" While Aoi couldn't blame her for being upset, he couldn't forget their previous argument either and while he was far from having recovered, he has regained enough strength to stand his ground in this conversation as he considered his sister had her part of blame.
"Fuck... I guess I do... cause you only trouble, eh?" While he wasn't one for self pity, Akane's words had hit him quite hard as he had dedicated his life to her after all. "I suppose you're gonna leave me now that I'm not useful anymore... Is that right?" Why had her words triggered such a reaction from him, Aoi wasn't even sure himself but upon hearing all the blaming, added to the incredible amount of pain his body was in, he felt like breaking down.
"Yes, I'm stupid and there are evidence on the scene since I came back here as fast as I could." He didn't even mention the witness as he didn't want to enrage his sister even more. "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry Akane..." His voice crackled as he uttered those final words, raising both of his arms, ignoring the pain, to cover his face to hide the tears that had crawled to the corner of his eyes.
If Aoi had looked at her, he would have been able to witness how disappointment drew itself over her features. Whatever worry Akane had held mere seconds ago vanished, and if it wasn’t her brother lying at her feet, she would have told him how much he deserved this pain. Wordlessly, Akane’s lips morphed into a thin line. So this is how it was. Aoi had attacked them, initated a fight and suffered. Not without killing the other party, though.
A quiet “Hmpf” escaped her, then she toddled over to the couch and let herself plunge into it. Deep breaths, Akane, don’t snap. He’s not the one you want to shout at. Not right now. "Why would you do that?" The brunette was trying to keep her tone calm, but she failed miserably. Acting was something she’d aced, but Aoi was the one exception. It wasn’t hard to keep up indifference, but to contain anger all the more. "Is there anything you do that doesn’t cause trouble? Honestly." Her words were tinged with disappointment. While she didn’t want to blame him more than necessary, she did. It was just a bad habit of hers. "I don’t get it."
"Why do I have to look after you like a little baby? I thought you’re more mature. As soon as I’m gone for ten seconds, hell gets loose. How do you manage to do that? First Light, then this— And let me make an intelligent guess, you left tons of evidence at the scene. Stupid. Are you stupid?”

While his stomach still hurt from the blow he had received, the cuts he had weren't too bad and could be left for later, the bullet in his tight that needed to be removed being his biggest injury. Upon having blankets put over him, it wasn't long before Aoi's body temperature returned to normal, making him feel better already though the worst was yet to come.
Even though Akane had been delicate upon removing the bullet, the ache had been unbearable, making the white-haired man grit his teeth to suppress pained noises... in vain. However, as she disinfected the wound, cries left his lips as the incredible amount of pain was something very difficult for him to handle at this very moment. He let out a sigh of relief when she was done with the process, the gauze both stopping the blood and dulling the ache a bit.
Aoi hadn't talked at all ever since the brunette had treated him, only wanting to rest even though he would have much preferred to be lying somewhere else than on the floor, on the couch or his bed though it was unlikely that he would be able to move that far but it would seem, despite not wanting it at all, he would need to give Akane some explanations and fast.
"I..." The white-haired man adverted his eyes as he simply couldn't face his sister upon telling her the circumstances that had lead him to ending in such a state. "Taunted these three guys into a fight... Killed them... But they injured me..." Aoi closed his eyes in cowardice as he didn't wish to face his sister at all, especially since she had been the reason for the blinding rage that had pushed him to such an act, expecting the brunette to be mad, and rightfully so, after hearing his words.
For the time being, Akane assumed her brother had been attacked. Had it been Hongou to exact revenge, the bullet in his thigh being a message? Or just some random thug like the one who’d attacked her? Anyways, it didn’t matter right now. For the moment Akane pushed all thoughts of Light and him aside and hurried to fetch a few blankets, gently covering her brother beneath the warming fabric upon her return.
She then headed over to their bathroom to get her hands on a few medical tools, and as she’d done so, returned with them in a matter of minutes. Taking the bullet out must have been painful (though she’d been much more careful than with Hongou), disinfecting it all the more. Akane also made sure to clean the wound of any things that could cause an infection, then wrapped gauze about his injury - And not too loosely. It should stop the bleeding after all. "My god, Aoi," the woman mumbled, her fingers fumbling about with the material in her hands. She was shivering, but she couldn’t precisely tell why. Maybe because her brother was suffering - Maybe because it could have been Hongou. Or was it anger? "I’m not here for one day and you end up like this."
"Tell me what happened." She couldn’t know how disappointed she’d be.
