What if Zane's power source consists of pure Source Dragon energy? This explains why he is able to see visions (or it's just related to the sixth sense)

Even if his visions are related to the sixth sense, or to his elemental power, there is simply no explanation at the moment of what Zane's energy source consists of, and how his father created it in the first place.

We may never know.

Rewrite: How The Forbidden Staff Would Work and How Vex Influenced It

Hi, I haven't posted in a while, because school is terrible and is needing all of my time BUT I have been working on some things in the background for the rewrite and I promise some of it is not Ice Emperor related lmao. (This post is, but can you blame a man?) Also, I'm going to start formatting and tagging my rewrite posts so they're a lot easier to find.

Creation

The First Spinjitsu Master created the scrolls with sentience in mind, intending the scrolls to be able to communicate with their users as a voice of reason. However, the scrolls had a singular goal; to be in the hands of an Elemental Master.

Seeing the adverse effects that the scrolls had, the FSM locked them away until they are used by Aspheera and the ninja. Being locked away only strengthened their goal, and wanted to reach it by any means necessary.

Without Vex

In a hypothetical where Zane used the staff and Vex didn't find him in the Never Realm, he would slowly lose himself and his memories to the staff.

In an effort to stay with any elemental user, the staff would slowly start suppressing their memories, telling them how useful it is, how it's the only thing they need, forming a toxic bond like a parasite. It would also start changing the user physically and would resemble a process of the user becoming their element like Nya becoming the ocean, but it wouldn't be able to change them to the fullest extent and the process would take many, many years.

It has no other goals, so in the case of Zane the staff wouldn't influence him to become a genocidal dictator, but it would make Zane kill anyone who tries to separate the two of them. It also would hit the jackpot with Zane, as he's also an immortal being and thus the staff would not have to change users if their user were to die. The staff makes Zane wary of the other ninja, but once they establish that they're only there to help and not separate the two of them, the staff would let them help with repairs (albeit through a lot of coaxing, what if they kill him?). But it always makes Zane keep his distance, always a little suspicious of their true intentions.

With Vex

Vex would be able to witness Zane's descent into his element and use it to his advantage. (In this rewrite, Zane doesn't lose his memories through being unplugged, rather through the staff as I felt it was a little purposeless in the show) The scroll makes Vex's manipulation of him a lot easier and he's able to slowly convince him to become the Ice Emperor and eventually, a violent dictator.

The scroll acknowledges what Vex is doing and lets him continue on, as it only secures the scroll's goal. The staff even learns a thing or two from Vex and uses his manipulation tactics to further engross itself in the grasp of the Emperor. In turn, the staff makes Zane even more attached to Vex, enough as to eventually use him as a guide for his thoughts. The two work in tandem to influence Zane into the Ice Emperor.

Early on, in a moment where the staff and Vex are alone, Vex talks to it. He refers to the staff as a spirit, and pledges allegiance to it, in favor that he can use Zane to take control of the Never Realm and to take revenge on everyone he believes has wronged him. The staff isn't able to respond, but it takes his allegiance with gratitude. Vex figures this out later, as the staff makes Zane even closer to Vex.

How The Staff Works (Power Related)

I would reference a post about how their powers work, but I haven't completely finished it yet. so. All you need to know is that the ninja/any elemental user has a physical stamina and magic stamina. The two can be exchanged into the other form, but not at the same exchange rate. Also, their elemental powers are a 'muscle'. If you overuse it, it will stop working until it has completely rested.

Anyways. The staff in this rewrite is not an unlimited source of power, but an incredibly strong amplifier. The cost of magical stamina is lowered significantly, and every move is much more powerful (such as creating multiple independently moving constructs), making it seem unlimited. However, the staff has a great cost because of this amplification, which comes in terms of physical stamina. (Hence the 'turning you into your element' thing). While Zane has more physical stamina compared to the other ninja (subject to change, but s1 ep7 comes to mind), it doesn't save him from his physical stamina being depleted to sustain the power of the staff. This is why he stays on his throne for most of the time, thus using Boreal and the Blizzard Samurai to control his empire.

He's also running a bunch of 'spells' (idk what to call what he's doing), such as creating Boreal, a separate but loyal entity, the Ice Samurai with is solely reliant on him and the Frozen Samurai, in which he froze their flesh and blood and puppets them similar to the Ice Samurai and of course, the Everwinter. So, he's already super spent as is.

When he fights the Ninja, he has to exchange the hold he had over the Ice Samurai to get some of his physical stamina back, causing them to melt. In this fight, the staff slowly relinquishes all of the 'spells', as it's trying desperately to stay within Zane's grip.

In this fight, Kai slices Zane's right arm off causing the connection to sever and all active 'spells' to deactivate. Zane has been basically running on air even before the fight, but the staff used his heart as a last-ditch effort to save them. Zane collapses and is unable to hear the staff scream for him, urging him desperately to fight on. (Don't worry, Zane and his heart are as fine as they can be after 50 years of being the Ice Emperor.)

The staff is stored securely, but the many, many years have forged a special connection between the two. The staff isn't able to talk to Zane over long distances, but certainly in a wider range. In a much larger range though, the staff and Zane are able to 'sense' one another. Zane could randomly walk into this range and feel a tug, an internal sense of dread, pleading and belonging. Whether or not he knows this is the staff is entirely up to the situation, but he's a smart man.

When the staff speaks, the only people who can hear it was anyone under the influence of the staff's power, such as Zane, Boreal, the Frozen Samurai, and Vex.

Zane loses his memories and becomes evil. Jay loses his memories and becomes evil. Is it a weird implication that we're constantly shown that the OG Ninja have so much potential as villains, and the only thing keeping them good is literally just each other and their shared found family memories?

Somebody to Know: Ice's Acclimation

Yayyy part 2 of Zane joining dropped! I was going to wait until Friday but I'm proud of this chapter so you guys are getting it a day early <3

Ninjago pilots: so Zane is just sort of a strange guy but y’know he’s got his thing and we’ve got our things and who are we to judge? He’s probably autistic, but we’re not going to out and say it. You have eyes and ears, though.

Seasons 1-2: so actually the reason Zane seems like a strange guy is because he’s a robot! He’s much more than that, though, and he’s his own unique person, and the other ninja are going to continue to love him for that. This changes nothing about the character we know and love :) he’s got his thing and we’ve got ours he walks like a person he talks like a person he’s just like us really. This is a metaphor for autism

Season 3: so there are actually other robots like him but Zane is still special among them. This season is about robots actually so we’re going to think about his robot thing more but that’s mostly cool things he can do. It doesn’t disqualify him from doing cool human things, too, and he’s really still the same awesome guy and his friends still love him and there’s never a question that the whole city mourns him like a person in the end.

Seasons 4-8: Alright he looks a little more undeniably robotic now but y’know he had to rebuild his body and maybe he’s more comfortable not looking like a human and it’s become such a core part of his character and the worldbuilding that it’s going to have to be there all the time so it might as well be visible

when i think about piixane too hard my heart hurts. I think they could have loved each other, had things not gone the way they did. If Zane stayed a shield and Pixal stayed a sword. But Zane started to show little flickers of light, like the glare of the sun off a knifes blade. And Pixal started to put herself in the line of fire, losing everything to protect him. and then the Never Realm happened and the metal Zane was made with was forced into the shape of a sword completely, and Pixal had nightmares about her failure as a shield- her failure to keep him safe and whole. She stopped the preeminent with her body. A shield split in two, the pieces sharp and covered in blood. A sword snapped halfway down the length, the edges dulled by the constant block of a blow. That's not the way it's supposed to go, not for them. it doesn't work like that. i'm sick.

AU where in the Future Ice Cave in season 5, Zane sees himself as the Ice Emperor and just assumes that he becomes a powerful and stoic warrior, WHICH IS WHY he hesitates to let go of the staff once he has it at the end of the Fire Chapter. He has built it up in his mind that he was supposed to have it all along.
