One thing I really like thinking about is post s11 Zane looking older. Realistically, he's a nindroid so he can't look older, but he somehow does. He stands like an old man, with rougher expressions than he had before. Before he had incredible posture, now he couldn't care less. I have an image of him in my head where he sits with his elbow resting on his knee as if he's going to tell a story. He has an air of authority that wasn't really present before.

You can also bet post s11 Zane has back problems. You can't sit frozen to a chair for ~50 years without some horrific consequences.

I don't ship vex and Zane but I do often think about what their relationship would be in the context of Vex coming back into Zanes life after s11 in regards to how I interpret their relationship in the Never Realm. I've always seen the Ice Emperor as unheathily dependent and, frankly, obsessed with Vex. He is literally all he has in the world. Every interaction IE receives comes through Vex- his only positive reinforcements come from Vexs mouth. So I think Zane, despite logically KNOWING vex is a bad guy, would be quick to accept him back into his circle. He has these feelings tied to Vex that make it hard to sever that relationship, and when Vex walks back into his life Zane is too quick to forgive him. And Zane REALLY hasn't dealt with the Never Realm- he hasn't processed the emotions or the trauma, and that means parts of the ice emperor are still around. In some small, fucked up way he has been looking for Vex since he lost him. The Ice Emperor needs vex.

It also ties into Zanes own personal self worth. He and Vex stood side by side on his throne. If Vex can change, can be good again, that means Zane can be too. If his sins can be forgiven then Zane can be forgiven. There's suddenly a personal stake in Vexs redemption as a reflection of Zanes redemption.

The world's most toxic friendship. Deeper than friendship but not romantic if that makes sense.

Thinking about actually posting on here, so heres the first little bit I have. Idk how to use this app, so forgive me lol

The ever loyal dragon of the Ice Emperor, it haunts the people of the Never-Realm from far above. It's rumoured to communicate with the Emperor himself, thus able to carry out his might and will. Boreal's icy flesh shatters any weapon and kills any fire with it's icy breath, making it a truly terrifying force to reckon with.

Ok, this section is just here for me to dump a bunch of info on why i made certain design choices, so here we go.

I kept the general head design of the original because I thought it looked cool lol.

The jagged edges of the scales are supposed to mimic hardened snow, as if Boreal flying around had shaped those scales onto it. The same goes for the markings on it's face and horns, which unifies Boreal's look with the Blizzard Samurai's frostbitten appearance, which this was mainly about.

Boreal is completely made of ice, and it's underbelly is made from that blue ice you often see when a glacier (haha) flips over. It's much darker here, but the idea remains.

Another big change is the circuit board printing on Boreal's belly and tail. This was inspired by a post that someone (anon) had made on spinchip's tumblr, where Zane's robotic nature played a much bigger role (hence the mention of ice towers). Here is the original post:

Another change is the existance of Boreal's core. I thought it would be neat if it had one, as a way to be more "independant" from the Ice Emperor. It also glows.

Boreal in this redesign has no tongue or teeth. If it did, it was frozen over a long time ago.

Finally (for now), Boreal has wings inspired by a gyrfalcon (which i headcanon to be the species of Falcon) and in this rewrite Zane has lost himself to the staff, but somewhere deep inside, he still remembers and misses Falcon.

*Falcon specifically has darker feathers, but you get the idea.
