It’s been a while since I played AJ, and I tooootally missed the Animal Jam Classic news, so I was very confused when I logged in and didn’t see my seal. 

I did make a bunny in the same spirit though.

A post about Feral

So I have a couple of AJ posts drafted that I need to finish up, and I’m not going to bother reposting Feral leaks or anything on this blog, I do want to talk about something specific.

I want to talk about my own theories about the game, because I haven’t really seen people talk about the kind of thing I’ve envisioned. I don’t have any proof of any of this! It’s just a bunch of ideas.

I think some people have gotten tripped up by the “like a game show” thing, and have been trying to find a game show that matches it one-to-one, but I think it’s a little more general than that.

So first of all, we know that it has to do with competing for “favor” from the queens. I think favor is likely to be represented as a literal, numerical value. I think you will either pick a queen to represent, or different activities will reward favor for different queens. I think the first is a little more likely. I think there will be rewards for amassing favor, perhaps with additional rewards for the representatives of whichever queen has the most total favor at the end of specific periods, and maybe even further rewards for individual top earners of favor.

I think each queen will have a certain aesthetic and/or a set of likes/dislikes that will affect both what sort of activities earn the most favor, and what rewards they hand out. If the player represents one specific queen, they’ll probably have to trade with other players to get rewards from the other queens.

I think it will be possible to earn favor from mini-games or gameplay challenges, but the MAIN focus will be on creating content. I think players will be able to earn favor from things like submitting drawings, or making videos, or putting together outfits. I think there will be a way for players to upvote creations they like, and the creators will gain more favor from more popular creations. There might also be some kind of “staff pick” that confers additional rewards.

A lot of people have talked about pvp, but I don’t think there’s gonna be any kind of open-world brawling with like, mmorpg mechanics. I think the closest we might see is some kind of one-on-one dueling minigame or like, pokemon-style pet battles.

The customization also sounds pretty robust. I don’t think it will be possible to import any content made in outside programs, but I think there will be a lot of options built in to the game. I think there will even be a way to customize behaviors of items, like making them change colors or emit particles when certain conditions are met. If that’s true, I am 100% positive we’ll see a good deal of players who manage to give their characters a superpowered and/or “evil” transformation, even if it’s only a cosmetic change with no alteration to gameplay. 

I have a lot of more specific ideas (I think both characters and items will have distinct “parts” that you can mix and match, like having different base designs for each of your characters legs, or being able to pick a chain and ornament for a necklace independently of each other), but I mainly wanted to talk about these major aspects here. Maybe I’ll post more theories as we get closer to launch?

All right, so while I want to resume my travels around Jamaa and give a broad overview of my impressions of each area, I want to focus a little more on the things I like most about this game- the lore and art. I'd also like to have an eyepatch again, so I guess I’m gonna finally have to learn about trading and item rarities!

But more about both of those later, because right now...

It is October.

Heck yes. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love the autumn colors and creepy decorations with all my heart. I felt a rush of excitement when I heard the dramatic music when I logged in. I adore it all.

So naturally, I had to look for cool seasonal content, but...

Okay. Guess it’s time to make a pet.

Not too bad.

Here we are! Just LOOK at this environment. I love the trees with the glowing faces especially. The goal here is to chase down these sort of proto-Phantoms that are weaker than the normal Phantoms, and...

They’re adorable. They’re precious. I love them. Look at this poor little guy, getting scared by a stationary hamster. I actually feel mean hunting them down.

Look at it. It’s terrified. I can’t do this. It’s a baby. It doesn’t deserve this. Post over.

And so I arrived in Jamaa Township. I love the autumn environment, it’s lovely.

Jamaa Township is meant to be sort of a central hub, and is always really busy as a result. It’s also got a handful of shops, as well as one other building...

The Alpha Headquarters is a pretty little place with statues of each of the Alphas! The Alphas are honestly one of the most interesting aspects of Animal Jam, imo. They’re supposed to have come from a different realm in order to fight off the Phamtoms, settling down in Jamaa after more or less succeeding, and leading efforts to keep the Phantoms at bay. Pretty dramatic stuff for such a simple game! 

You can click each statue to learn a little more about the Alpha it represents, and maybe I’ll talk about each of them more another time. For now, there is something else I want to do!

Some small notes/observations!

With Flash being phased out, there’s a handy page showing how to enable it, but that’s not all...

There’s now a handy stand-alone app, which I think is a great idea! Flash is officially being discontinued early next year, so I think it’s great that AJ doesn’t require it anymore.

Installation is really fast and easy, so it was only a little while before...

I was back! With everything just how I remember it... With a few exceptions!

Right away I noticed that the silhouette glitch was gone completely! Maybe whatever caused it got fixed, or maybe it was just an issue with Flash. Who knows!

Also, everyone has their usernames showing by default. I’m not actually “Miss Fancyclaw” anymore. It’s the end of an era!

I just spent some time chatting in Crystal Sands, but next time I’ll be taking a proper look around Jamaa Township. See you then!
