image 1: a quote from Ovid that reads: "And Orpheus received her, but one term was set: he must not, till he passed Avernus, turn back his gaze, or the gift would be in vain."
image 2: excerpt from the script of the film Spirited Away that reads: "Haku: But I can't go any farther. Just go back the way you came, you'll be fine. [highlighted] But you have to promise not to look back, not until you've passed through the tunnel."
image 3: a drawing, labeled in all-caps handwriting "a venn diagram of love vs. grief:". the drawing is a single circle.
image 4: an excerpt, highlighted and italicized, from Jenny Diski that reads: "People don't understand about repetition, do they? How it is at the heart (thump, thump, thump) of obsession; at the erotic centre (drip, drip, drip) of desire. You do, of course. Repetition is insatiability spelt sideways."
image 5: a quote from Franz Wright reading, "And let me ask you this: the dead, where aren't they?"
image 6: a quote from Adrianne Kalfopoulou in red text, reading, "Grief will keep you reaching back / for what is not there"
image 7: an excerpt from Jon Ware that reads, "Here's my question. If the ghost wants nothing more than to be witnessed, why would it appear behind you, not in front of you? The only answer I can think of is this: [underlined] it appears behind you because it already knows, to an absolute certainty, that you will have no choice but to look back."
image 8: a quote from Kazimierz Wierzyński that reads: "I understood the true fate of Orpheus, that [highlighted] love is a constant terror of loss."
image 9: a screenshot of a tumblr ask from an anonymous user who says, "What's the point?" user prisonhannibal responds, "of what? it's love though".
image 10: two lines from aeschylus reading, "Orestes: This was always going to happen. She's been dead since the beginning."
image 11: an excerpt from Ocean Vuong that reads, "Your absence has gone through me // Like thread through a needle. / Everything I do is stitched with its color."

So after stalling watching kdramas (mainly because I've been busy watching animes and reading book novels on the side), I have finally completed watching Welcome to Samdalri.
As people kept comparing this k-drama to another k-drama with somewhat a similar premise (both happened in Jeju), I urge you not to. For me though, Welcome To Samdalri is a healing drama. If you feel burn out, exhausted or restless, I think this is a perfect k-drama for that. Also, though it felt like it is promoted as a romance comedy or melodrama romance, I think it also showcases love, not just in the romantic sense, but also in friendships, family and community.
So, if you are still reading this part of this post, just warning you that there might be spoilers ahead.
What really piqued my interest about this k-drama is that both protagonists are almost on their 40s and it's rarely that we see romantic leads in this age group. Also, because the story itself does not solely focus on their romance but also their individuality as their characters.
For Shin Hye Sun's Cho Sam Dal, she is such a complex character (probably why I see a lot of people criticizing her character). The reason that I said this was because initially, they've showed Sam Dal as ambitious, wanting to be a successful photographer in the mainland (or as a Dragon rising from the small stream). I think this is why some people misunderstood her character as it might come off as somehow haughty or proud. Then, comes the fake news of her abuse of power and downfall leading her to retreat back her hometown.
When she came back, we then see her playful banter with Ji Chang Wook's Cho Yong Pil and though they were exes, you could see that they were once friends, childhood friends to be exact. Everyone in their community tried to separate them from each other as it might be awkward considering they were ex lovers but the funny thing was somehow, those two kept on meeting each other (maybe because they are neighbors, i dunno). But I think you could see that Cho Yong Pil is still smitten with Cho Sam Dal. Also that, even amidst the rumors of abuse of power, Chi Yong Pil believes Cho Sam Dal could never have done that because he vouchers for her character, because he knows her so well.
But what made me say that Cho Sam Dal is a complex character was shown around episode 5 and 6. From here, there was this question about Cho Sam Dal about what was the reason for her to return to her hometown if she was innocent. What made her go home. We then see her confronting her assistant who claimed about Sam Dal's abuse of power and that all of it was a lie and even Sam Dal know it but Sam Dal can't stop thinking that maybe she have abused her assistant without knowing that she was abusing her. We then see that though proud (in a sense that Sam Dal really knew she is a talented photographer) and ambitious, Sam Dal is kindhearted (which Yong Pil vouched for) and perhaps someone who easily succumbs to guilt, if people blamed her for something even though she is innocent, she might blame herself also.
This was also shown when it was revealed that the reason Sam Dal broke up with Yong Pil was because she finds herself faulty as to Yong Pil's relationship with his father Sang Tae. Still, I see people commenting that that was not enough reason to break up with someone but I guess they never know that Sam Dal really loved Yong Pil to the point she was willing to love him from afar if it means Yong Pil and his father would live together. (I think this was similar in how people questioned Orpheus love for Eurydice when Orpheus looked back to see Eurydice behind him as they exited the underworld).
Also, I really loved the fact that Sam Dal urge Yong Pil to pursue his dreams l, and makes him realize he mighy regret it if he didn't puruse it and says that Yong Pil have always supported him, why can't she do it for him.
Anyways, that's all that I could retain from my original thoughts about this kdrama. Also, that, this kdrama shows that even if we fail even when we're older or when we were supposed to be successful, you always have the time to do better, just relax and breathe.

Totally unrelated but might be similar, I have been thinking about this post when I finished watching Kiki's Delivery Service. I know they're teenagers and really really young but I can't help but think how Tombo seemed to fancy or love flying that when he saw Kiki flying, he was so enamored by her. And I kept thinking how Kaz love magic and how Tombo love flying and that somehow both of them had been enamored by someone who embodied their ideal fascination and I can't help but think is this kind of a love manifestation.
thinking about how, as a child, kaz’s favorite trick seemed to be watching something disappear, and then he grew up and fell in love with a girl who could vanish into thin air, and how we’re told that when he looks at inej, he feels like a boy again and believes that there’s still magic in the world. imagine loving magic all your life, and then discovering that magic loved you too.
#all these years later and kaz is still in love with magic!!!!#but inej is the magic now I can’t I’m —#kanej#kaz brekker#inej ghafa#six of crows#shadow and bone#text#kiki's delivery service#studio ghibli#witch#kikiandtombo

I've seen a lot of people say how hilarious it is that the Crows feel like they can trust Kaz with their wildest secrets because he's probably seen an done worse, and I fully agree...which is such an extra L for the guy Kaz dropped off the building lmao
It's like...
Nina: "I've falsely accused my crush of being a slaver"
Kaz, wiping the blood off his gloves after he literally just ripped a man's eye out: "Haha nice."
Jesper: "I have so many debts that my father might lose the farm"
Kaz: "I beat a man to death with his own bone once."
Wylan: "I can't read :("
Kaz: "Then?? Hire someone who can?? I can't walk properly, was I NOT supposed to get a cane I can bust peoples' kneecaps with??"
Inej: "I KILLED someone!"
Kaz: "LOL, tell me about it. Wait why are you crying."
Random asshole: "There's a girl in the Menagerie that will do anything for me because she'll die if I tell on her"
Kaz: "What the fuck is wrong with you"

This is just a random post, totally unrelated to fandoms and political stances that I sometimes share in this app but I just want to vent out something.
I just turned 25 this month and the more I stay on living in my current state, the more I realize that it's not laziness but rather restlessness, particularly of the future that has been stopping me lately from living. I've been feeling stagnant for the past few years, even before the pandemic and I think it's because of two reasons. One, that I always felt like I'm going to die early and would not reached my adulthood and second is because whilst living, I spend all my energy on survival mode.
There were a lot of difficult things that have happened for the past years for me, and I felt bad that I get to complain and vent out these frustrations while others are still suffering.
I'm scared of myself that one day, when I'm much, much older, I'll have that idea to finally end myself (just like how Virginia Woolf did) or that I'll go Plath's style.
I don't think I want to live. Every small win that I had for the past years feels like it doesn't amount to something. And I felt like I have been doing this all wrong. And even if I start from scratch, I might have it wrong again. I just really feel like that a lot. I can't be strong anymore.
I just feel utterly hopeless lately. I felt like this is where I'll be, forever. Stagnant, unmoving, just here.
I just want good things to happen to me too, is that difficult to wish upon?
