Part 3!
Okay, obviously I can’t leave Adrien out. While I didn’t attach to his story as much, I loved the character changes they gave him.
Now don’t get me wrong. I love sunshine adrien from the story. But I love this representation they gave us in the movie. It was so much more relatable. Adrien being so alone. I think it’s a reality many people face, and therefore it makes his character important. They set him up as someone who has no one. He doesn’t want to let anyone in. It’s understandable, when your so hurt, and you hold trauma, it’s so easy to want to hide away.
Unfortunately, I feel like we didn’t get powerful character development from him. But we did get development in the fact that he chooses to begin to let people in to help heal him as the movie moves on. And in the end, he obviously finds a lot of healing. And I think this is a nice thing to show. It gives hope to people who are alone. Whether it’s a family member, a SO, or a friend. Sometimes when you open your heart, you will find some healing.
Unfortunately as I said earlier, I think the ending is a bit unearned, and Gabby just changing his mind because he sees Cat Noir is adrien, is not a Gabby I’m used to thinking about. But also, the show Gabs would NEVER have surfer hair, so obviously that’s a different universe. 😂

Part 2?
The first character I LOVED the development on, was Marinette. And honestly, like I said in the last post, the first walk through I was unimpressed. I felt like the development was unearned and I struggled to connect to her as a character.
But listening to the soundtrack and rewatching? I understand I TOTALLY missed it. The movie did a fantastic job of presenting Marinette as a very relatable character. It just highlighted what the show did, but because of the short formatting, and a few changes, it did it better. (Sorry if this is ramble-y)
The thing I liked the best was letting her begin her arch on the bottom. Instead of making her main and kind of only flaw be that she is clumsy, in the movie, she’s a mess. Which, what teenage girl isn’t a mess. She’s not portrayed as a courageous, talented girl with tons of friends. Instead, she is anxious. She is shy. She is struggling to excel. It did a great job of showing how it FEELS to be a girl with anxiety in school. To be unsure who you can trust, who you are. It’s fantastic! A character I think many people can relate to.
And along that line, her route to becoming a hero is fantastic. First of all, her saving Fu, is so MUCH MORE powerful then it was in the show. It does a fantastic job of showing a split second of courage. And I think it’s because it frames that courage in a moment of complete fear. She is running away from her problems. But in that moment, she acts. It’s very powerful.
Her song with Tikki perfectly represents how most people feel when faced with similar decisions as well. Acting courageous in a split second is one thing, but being faced with a decision to step up can often be more intimidating. When things get tough, I think a lot of us make excuses. We all want to be left alone. Just like she tries to explain in the song. It is not easy to face fears.
And I think that’s why her character is so powerful. When she finally initially decides to face her fears, it’s so powerful. The song courage in me, reminded me a lot of “the next right thing” in frozen 2. Both are powerful, because the character has to decide to step forward, and face the reality. Which is something inspiring. It’s a darkness most people don’t want to think about, but it’s a darkness we all experience. Sometimes we have to push through the fears.
And in the end, we see her final movement in the character arch, where she suddenly has to face fears with no support. No Tikki, no mask, no superpowers. Which is important to show how she’s grown.
I think why I liked this character development so much, was because like I said earlier, I think she is very much a character many of us relate to. And as the main target audience is kids and teenagers, I think she’s an important character to represent. I think we see so many “girl boss” characters now days(or the opposite), which is great, but most of us are not girl boss. We’re just your average, anxious, fearful, messy girls. To see a character who is fearful. Who is a mess. To see her stand up and face fears, is powerful. I may not be getting my point, but I liked it.
At first I was disappointed that ALOT of her character growth happened in songs. I felt like it was a cop out. But when I began to analyze it from the target audience, I think I changed my mind. The thing is, kids latch on to music. I mean we all remember all the little girls being obsessed with “let it go”. Having the development showing in her music numbers, is a great way to help the kids understand that growth. When they’re singing along, the words will make their way into their little hearts. And the words are about another girl who is afraid, but has to trust that she is stronger then her fears. Love this concept.

Okay I’m totally late to the party, but I finally have some solidified feelings about the new miraculous movie.
I first watched it the day it released in the US on Netflix, and I got to admit, I was not blown away. There were something’s I liked, but honestly, I think I spent so much time trying to separate it from the tv show, because obviously I had the season 5 final on my mind. I felt like I it lacked character development, and I wasn’t impressed by the music.
BUT today I decided to listen to the soundtrack while I was working, and it started growing on me. So I decided to rewatch the movie. And honestly, this second time I got that blown away feeling I was hoping for. I think it helped that I had already processed the movie compared to the show, so this time I was able to really take it for what it is. So that being said, in a few different posts, I want to analyze my favorite things about the movie, what I feel like really works.
I’m not going to lie, I still feel like the ending was a bit unearned, but that’s okay. It fits well with the plot and the structure of the movie. The main thing I want to talk about is the music, and the character personalities and growth, and how most of them actually really work.

Okay, Strike Back spoilers, but can we talk about how similar Felix looks to Chat when he’s transformed? Side by side, they look like the same person in two different costumes. I feel like once things calm down some and they start talking about Felix, LB HAS TO REALIZE that Chat is Adrian right? Or is the miraculous magic REALLY that strong that no one can see the similarities.

Man y’all, I’m not a PT but I do frequently work with pediatric PT’s and let me tell you… I can totally see Adrian doing that. 😂 I love this idea!
I read through your potential careers for future Adrien post, and while I’m partial to physics Adrien, I also thought of the concept of Adrien becoming a physical therapist. He just has that personality to me that is fitting (and may or may not remind me of my pt). He’s a hero, and would want to help and build connections with people, but a normal therapist would be too heavy for him. I feel like he’d work with kids and teens, always pushing their recovery forward with little bets and dares. In turn the kids would maybe dare him to try their exercises, but like, if they were doing it on two feet he’d have to do it on one foot, blindfolded. At the same time he’d be sensitive to when kids are finding recovery hard and just be soft with them, reassuring that rehabilitation takes time and that they’re doing great no matter what. Just… Physical therapist Adrien. That’s all I have to say.
I've never once considered this before, but I'm sold. This is really cute. Adrien is such an incredibly empathetic character that any position where he can help others, especially kids, is something I can see him really excelling at.

After watching simple man, I kind of wonder if the akumatized villains costumes are similar to the miraculous users costumes in that the holder is the one who designs it based on their desires. Like I mean, before this episode there have been some pretty odd and horrible looking villains, but this one REALLY took the cake. There is NO WAY Gabriel would create a costume that horrible. But I could TOTALLY see Marinette’s grandpa creating a costume like that. It kind of makes sense in a way, since the akuma’s act similar to the miraculous as far as the masking goes. Thinking back at some of the villians, I feel like their costumes make more sense when you look at it from that perspective.

How has Hawk/Shadowmoth NOT akumatized someone for road rage yet? I 100% feel like road rage is the purest of emotions and hawkmoth be missing out on some good akuma’s there.

It’s interesting that whenever someone gets akumatized into a copy of ladybug, they never get her powers. Let me expand. The other times someone has been akumatized into a copy of another hero (Copycat and Volpina) they get an exact COPY of their powers. Copycat gets Chat’s cataclysm, and Volpina gets Rene’s mirage. However in Antibug, Chloe doesn’t get a COPY of ladybugs powers. This is seen when she calls for her charm, it’s an “anti-charm” which is SIGNIFICANTLY less powerful than ladybugs LUCKY charm. Other examples are with the ladybug sentimonster and even the ladybug nightmare in Sandboy. I know it will never happen, but I would love to see an akumatized person get a REAL lucky charm and be like “wtf do I do with a spoon”.

Been thinking about Chat Blanc with a Sand Boy 2.0 and he arrives when Marinette is asleep. Been also thinking of a fun new akuma that takes two people, and forces person B’s mind into a construction of person A’s worst fear. So like… Imagine Adrien falling asleep and waking up as Chat Blanc with incomplete memories in Marinette’s room or something.
Now my question is why aren't you writing a story about it??????
COS THAT IS ONE HELLUVA PROMPT ANON.

Man how funny would it be if the person who gets the dog miraculous is someone Adrien doesn’t get along with. Which I know is like no one because he gets along with everyone, but still. It would be funny if the cat and dog miraculous holders weren’t the biggest fans of each other.

So I watched Sole Crusher this morning... Spoilers ahead.
I am UNBELIEVABLY disappointed in this episode. I don’t know if I will change my opinion once they release all the episodes(we’re only missing episode 5 before this one though, so it’s not likely) or once I see the English dub, but I did not feel like this was up to the MLB standards. The writing was so bad. And I might be alone in this thought, but I don’t think I am... There are a lot of things about this episode that we’re not consistent with previous MLB episodes or seemed unnecessary.
The biggest one being Chloe. Now I am not a big Chloe fan, I don’t really give a crap about her either way. I just noting inconsistencies in the plot and character. The way I felt after watching this episode was similar to how I felt after watching the season 3 finale(this episode did grow on me a bit after a few watches). It basically boils down to maintaining consistent growth or decay for a character. While her character has always been a spoiled brat who is a jerk to everyone around her, the level of honestly EVILNESS written into her character was not consistent with what we saw in her character in the final episodes of season 3. There are a couple easy areas to compare. Her treatment of Sabrina being one of them. Now she has ALWAYS treated Sabrina poorly, but you could tell in previous seasons that she did have SOME regard for the girl, however small, and they actually spent time together doing things like pretending to be superhero’s and such. Flip forward to this episode where she literally is keeping Sabrina in a closet and says less than like 3 lines to her? That is not consistent at all. Ordering her around has always been a thing, but Sabrina has been more like a poorly treated assistant then a slave. It just sat bad with me. Next is the small line about Adrien. You know, the one about picking a best friend, preferably someone rich? That was so out of context and so unnecessary. Chloe has always been one to flaunt her riches, but she also has shown in previous episodes that she truly cares about Adrien(style queen comes to mind when she’s so obviously worried about his well-being) and has never had interactions with him about their money or status before. ALSO she and Sabrina have MULTIPLE times called each other best friends. Soo... again back to the first issue. There are some things that are consistent. Like I do think she would hide behind Marinette if there was a villain after her. That seems about par. And I think making fun of Zoe’s shoes was consistent with her character as well. Regardless, it irks me to have a character written so poorly. I don’t care that Chloe was growing for a while, and then started getting worse (in fact this could have actually been really interesting had it been written correctly), however, you can’t jump from spoiled brat to pure evil with no development in between. You have to show the character decaying in order to take the viewer with you on that journey.
The second issue I had was honestly, why the heck we bringing a new character in. This is again BAD WRITING. We already have SO MANY CHARACTERS, that there are tons of characters who have very little development, and now they’re bringing in another one? WHY? It’s not even an original character. Zoe is literally Adrien if he had been brought up by snobby parents. Marinette doesn’t need anymore best friends. So WHY DO WE HAVE THIS CHARACTER. It is so dumb. Not saying anything bad about Zoe, she’s a sweet girl. But unnecessary for the plot. From what I can see, the only reason she is here is so someone can have the bee miraculous, which is just so unoriginal. They would have been better off retiring it. Why give it to Chloe in season 3. A big rule of thumb in writing is the more characters you have the worse written they will be.
And the last issue is that this story lacked Chat/Adrien. I suspect it was from poor use of time, but it felt like he was forgotten. Which is so dumb. The show is called Miraculous Ladybug and CHAT NOIR. They both should be exhibited. Again poor writing because you could tell he was an after thought. It’s one thing to not show a lot of a main character, but you have to ensure what you do show is meaningful, or you leave your viewers, AGAIN, feeling unfulfilled.
Sorry about the rant. My opinion might change later in the season, but I was just so disappointed after finishing this episode. Hopefully Queen Banana will be better! Does anyone else have thoughts?

!!!MR PIGEON 72 SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!
Omg this episode is everything I wanted and more. It’s was so fantastic from start to finish. STARTING with some great Alya and Ladybug conversations. I love that Marinette is now able to lean on Alya to help her with the weight of being guardian. I hope that they decide to make Alya a full time holder now that she knows so she can be called on at anytime.
Also I LOVED LOVED LOVED that Marinette’s first thought when Alya said Kagami and Adrien broke up was Kagami. I really wish we could have seen more of their friendship growth, because obviously by her greeting (jumping on her back SO CUTE) and then her interaction with Kagami’s mother, they are very close. I wish we would have seen more of this on screen but I still love it. And seeing Marinette trying to use her insane plans for Kagami was just so heartfelt. She obviously still has feelings for Adrien, but she loves her friends more and wants them to be happy. And I LOVE that in the end Kagami shows that she too, loves Marinette and wants her to be happy. This was just such a great show for their friendship. I need more of their friendship!
I’m sad we didn’t get any Chat this time, but it was still a great battle! I loved seeing Alya complete a more complex mirage, it was really a great show of power. And Plagg as always a reluctantly great team player. Plus LADYBUGS NEW POWER UP(?) SO COOL. Discovering new power in herself. I love it. I guess it’s not really a power up per say, but it’s not her typical special power either. It calls into question if she can create without the lucky charm always. If she can just create whatever she desires. I was a bit confused on this, but the English translation was a little wonky so maybe I will understand more when the English dub comes out!
And last but not least, Adrienette moments. In the end them chatting in the rain was cute. I was so proud of Marinette when she asked if he wanted to walk home! Very sweet and courageous. Also, OMG ADRIEN BUMPED HIS HEAD TRYING TO GET IN THE CAR. I know everyone has been questioning if Adrien falls for Marinette in the season based on the love bubbles in Guilttrip, and I feel like this answers our question with a big fat YES! This scene was just so cute and I loved seeing an almost reverse in the personalities for a minute with Marinette being confident and Adrien being clumsy. I hope we see more of this in the future!

I noticed in Oblivio Marinette is not clumsy AT ALL! It got me thinking a lot about her clumsiness. I had always as Ladybug, she was not clumsy because the miraculous corrected it for her. But after noticing this apparently lack of trips and scuffs, I think that this is not the case.
I suspect that Marinette’s clumsiness stems NOT from an actual true issue(or at least not a BAD issue. Not an abnormal issue), but because this has become a part of her identity. Essentially it is a learned behavior. People have told her she is clumsy, therefore as Marinette, she is clumsy! But it’s not a true identity, it’s just who she believes she is! This belief is removed when her memory is wiped, so she doesn’t continue to use this behavior because she has no use for it. It is no longer apart of her identity because she is creating a new one. This is seen when she first becomes Ladybug as well in Orgins! She tells Tikki she can’t be LB because she is too clumsy and not a hero (because that is what she has be TOLD so that is what she believes she is). And when she first starts out she IS a little clumsy. But as she realizes she doesn’t have to follow the identity that she has been stuck in as Marinette, she becomes more confident and suddenly not so clumsy. Ladybug was a clean slate for her, just like Oblivio.
Now there are 2 scenes (there might be more, but I can’t recall more) where she shows a bit of clumsiness in Oblivio. One as Marinette and one as Ladybug. As Marinette she misjudges as she is jumping out of the vent and falls on Adrien (okay we all know the only reason this happens is because the writers are OBSESSED with her and Adrien falling on each other literally. 🤦🏼♀️ so unrealistic. How can they make Marinette SO SMALL yet somehow ALWAYS KNOCK ADRIEN DOWN. Sorry, rant for another time). This is clumsy, but notice how they easily get up and she doesn’t continue to be clumsy. In many cases as Marinette, when she is embarrassed or clumsy, she continues to be clumsy. Because she believes it’s her identity! But here she doesn’t have any learned behaviors or beliefs to make her be more clumsy so they just get up and move on. Boom. Done. Normal moment. Not excessive clumsiness. When she is Ladybug she trips over her yo-yo string. And this, I mean come on, there’s going to be some learning curve as a superhero, so there you go.
To further my argument, in Oblivio as she’s reading about the miraculous on her phone, she reads that the miraculous increases all “physically abilities.” Aka helps them jump and run better. And while clumsiness is a physical manifestation, it is NOT a physical issue. It stems from a lack of spacial awareness. Aka, not seeing that there’s a backpack on the stairs and tripping on it. Or misjudging where the ground is and loosing your footing. It’s all in the brain. So if she was TRUELY as clumsy as she is as Marinette, she would be that clumsy as Ladybug.
TLDR: Marinette isn’t really as clumsy as she thinks, she has just been labeled as clumsy and therefore believes this and is clumsy.

I didn’t even realize they already released the English Dub of Gang of Secrets until late last night! I’m not sure when it was released but it was so worth the wait. I didn’t think it would hit me as hard the second time, but SO GOOD. That last scene was just as moving the second time, especially being able to hear the translation. Now I’m so impatient to see Mr. Pigeon 72 to see how Alya responds! Also, ALYA WAS SO BOMB IN THIS EPISODE OMG. Talk about an ICON. Love her.
Anyways... Bug out!

Watching animaestro today, aka the pity party, I realized there’s a major timeline error made! Right before Astruc gets akumatized, he complains about how you can slave over something for “3 years” and no one even notice. But in the show, Thomas has been making a movie about ladybug and chat noir, and they have not even been around for 3 years. I’m not sure the exact timeline, but I suspect at this point they have only been superhero’s for about a year.
Now obviously, just like everything in this episode, this was probably less of a error and more of a pity party for Astruc(since he’d been making the show for 3 years). But still a notable timeline error!

I really want them to make a Sandboy 2! I think it would be a great way to show some character development. Also I just liked that villain. But thinking about how their roles have changed, I doubt their nightmares would be the same. Besides Adriens. I suspect his ultimate nightmare is probably still being trapped.
But Marinette’s nightmare is probably not that Adrien is in love with Chloe anymore. Partially, because the nightmare of him being with someone else has already come true as he is dating Kagami. But also because the idea of Chloe is probably not quite as devastating as it used to be, because their relationship has matured quite a bit.
I feel like now that she is the guardian and more than a little overwhelmed, her nightmare as Ladybug and as Marinette would be one. It would probably be something along the lines of losing the miracle box, or honestly it might be something along the lines of losing her memory because of the guardianship(this might be easier to write into the plot since the other would mean hawk moth winning).
As far as Chat’s nightmare, I suspect it would shift slightly. Instead of Ladybug despising him, I think it would probably be her not NEEDING him or her replacing him. This has been a continuous issue for him, and he needs more and more reenforcement as the series progresses.
This could actually work out really well if they had Ladybug’s nightmare be loosing her memory and Chat’s be to not be needed. Although Ladybug can not give him the validation he so desperately craves, he will see his necessity because he will have to be the leader. He won’t be able to rely on her because she won’t have the knowledge and confidence she normally has.
ANYWAYS.... Bug out!
