When Whumpee is scared of Caretaker
- When Caretaker comes off as super intimidating, maybe they're muscular or carry themselves with a lot of authority, so it's a struggle to help whumpee feel safe.
- The classic pet whumpee thinking caretaker is new master and trying to do what they want and avoid punishments.
- Caretaker would never hurt whumpee, but they're very strong and/or whumpee is very weak, so they both know that it would be so easy if they did.
- Caretaker rescues whumpee from whumper, and maybe fights whumper or breaks through a wall or roughly grabs and carries whumpee, so when they get home and caretaker tries to help whumpee calm down, whumpee is terrified of them.
- Caretaker moves quietly or teleports and startles whumpee by suddenly appearing.
- Caretaker is part of a dangerous species, or has a reputation as a threat on their own, and whumpee recognizes them and is hesitant to trust them.
- Caretaker takes revenge on whumper, doing the same things to them that they did to whumpee, and whumpee sees this and is terrified at what caretaker is capable of.
- Caretaker is related to whumper or looks similar to them, and whumpee logically knows they're safe, but they still feel reminded of whumper.
- Caretaker has reflexes or instincts that could hurt whumpee, for example a trained fighter reflexively attacking people who startle them, or a vampire who needs blood and might unwillingly bite whumpee.
- Caretaker is part of a group that whumpee was conditioned to fear, maybe a revolutionary group or people against what whumper is doing. They have to show whumpee that they can be trusted, and slowly deprogram them.
- Caretaker curses frequently or talks loudly and it scares whumpee.
- Caretaker is possessed, and doesn't know whether the person possessing them can be trusted around whumpee. Maybe they get possessed unexpectedly and have to deal with the aftermath and whumpee being afraid of them again.
- Caretaker accidentally hurting whumpee, like accidentally hitting them with a gesture or walking into them without looking, and whumpee thinks it's intentional.
- Caretaker cursing or muttering insults in frustration at something random, and whumpee thinking it's directed at them. Maybe caretaker doesn't know why whumpee's attitude suddenly changed and is concerned for them, but whumpee interprets it as disappointment or anger.

Note
idea: caretaker gets whumpee a plushie as a get well gift. Any whump ideas on what the plushie should be?
The caretaker could go the extra mile and get a plushie of whatever the whumpee’s favorite animal is!

This was far beyond the kind of pain a sixteen-year-old boy like him could endure. The only silver lining was that nobody cared how much he screamed or wailed. That was why Chuuya yelled every time he felt pain...

Whump Drabble: Language Barrier
CW: Violence and disturbing themes
Okay so like…language barriers in whump….I wanna see it
Just lime imagine the possibilities that language barriers bring to the storytelling table anyway. Characters that cannot understand each other not because of a disability, but because they just happen to be from different places. They hear each other’s tone mostly, but they can’t decipher anything they say.
Now imagine that in whump.
Whumper whispering into whumpee’s ear, as they recoil in fear having no clue what they’re even saying. Whumpee just learning to respond to shouting in disarray instead of memorizing the words. Even though whumpee knows better they come to associate the language with bad happenings. Maybe they lose the will to learn it at all, because they don’t want to know what whumper was saying.
Maybe whumper knows whumpee’s language, maybe they don’t, it doesn’t really matter to them anyway. Imagine whumpee coming to learn the language in backwards ways picking up on words and saying from whumper, until they learn how to speak it brokenly.
Imagine caretaker and whumper speaking the same language, sharing the same language barrier with whumpee. Imagine caretaker complimenting whumpee and they respond in fright because whumper always complimented them after sessions. Maybe they assumed that a compliment truly meant something else, and have never been corrected.
Maybe the language barriers serves nothing as a further obstacle for whumpee, where they just can’t understand their whumper or caretaker. Maybe there’s another whumpee stuck with them. Do they know each other’s language by chance? Or is whumpee just as lost for them. Imagine second whumpee translating whumper’s words to the other. Or maybe its a tri-language barrier and no one knows whats going except whumper.
Just the fear of whumpee not knowing what’s going on. They don’t know what they did, or why whumper is doing this.

Intimidating/Deadly Caretakers
I personally prefer and love a caretaker dynamic where Caretaker is feared, powerful, or highly skilled in a way. Strong, intimating, potentially deadly caretakers. Buff bois, and gorls, all that such…
-Caretakers who are muscular, known to be strong, and don’t hesitate to manhandle all of their problems
-Caretaker with scars (secretly from biking but they’re not telling anyone that)
-Caretakers who are soldiers, villains, unexpected doctors
-Caretakers who are nonhuman and therefor deadly by human standards
-Stoic, quiet, or downright scary/intimidating caretakers where even Whumpee is at a loss
-Caretakers who are feared by Whumper just as much as Whumpee
-Caretakers who aren’t all sweets, smothering, and excessively motherly
-Caretakers who aren’t two-dimensional; where their only personality traits come from the fact that they are a caregiver and caring for someone
-Caretakers who stumble across their whumpees in suspicious ways
-Caretakers donning heavy gear, equipped with weapons, unafraid of dangerous terrain/situations
-Caretakers who are culturally different them whumpee, because my favorite trope is two characters who are culturally different
-Caretakers who glare at the team, and the team scatters or straightens up
-Caretakers who are larger than the other characters, and aren’t just the same stereotypical leader guy that I see everywhere
-Caretakers that defy all the common stoic caretaker tropes, but are still intimidating

Whump Prompt #901
Submitted by Anon - thanks!
A whumpee who is the only human on a spaceship with the rest of the crew ranging from “vaguely humanish” to “sentient fungus.” In short, none of them know anything about human anatomy, but once their human (who may or may not also be the only engineer or something) gets sick, the crew has to learn how to take care of them fast.

Prompt #1156
The hero watched the villain flinch away from the storm with visible confusion. “It’s just a storm,” they murmured, even as they kept their palms face up and their posture nonthreatening.
Lightning flashed again, and the villain curled into a tighter ball. “It’s not just a storm,” they snapped. “Don’t you know who I used to fight? Don’t you know what they could do?”
Ah. The storm-wielding hero that had gone off the rails, terrorising their villains with scorching lightning and deafening thunder. They had been uncovered and locked up two years ago, but, well, it was no wonder the villain was afraid of storms.
The hero shuffled closer to their balled-up form. “I could…sit with you? If you like. I still think it’s just a normal storm, but I can stay, and I can protect you if it’s not.”

To stave off mass starvation, humans have managed to capture and cage a phoenix. They kill it and eat it. A few days later, it would be reborn, only to be butchered again.

Butterfly as symbol of metamorphosis from plain to beauty. Being touched by a butterfly is luck. Butterfly effect being a small change that changes the whole thing. Butterfly symbolism is cheff kiss
Now, imagine: butterflies as allegory of trauma. Butterflies looks beautiful, but some species like Purple Emperor — the male ones specifically — eats corpses. The female ones eats rotten fruit. If butterflies swarm you, you're rotten. Similarly, it also means cycle of rebirth, which can be twisted to cycle of abuse.

Been thinking about personafied death (in writing) lately.
no i'm totally not romanticising death as a coping mechanism
A person being suicidal when it's actually Death being very fond of them and wanting to have them.
A person begging Death to take them, but Death sees them as too young, looks at them with sad and fond eyes, kisses them on the forehead and whispers "Not yet".
Death watching a person get tormented by life and purposefully not taking them, wanting to see them get up and get their revenge and look misery in the eye spitefully and taste journeys and love and time and art before gently taking their hand and taking them away.
Death having to take people before the time is right and letting them indulge in things they didn't get to in life.
Death reuniting friends and family and lovers.
Death being warmer than we've been told.

dark academia x whump
poison. idk, something about poison just screams dark academia. especially poisoned wine or poisoned coffee
people locked in a library and trying to kill each other
whumpee is a student overworking themselves to the point of sickness; someone nurses them back to health
old medical textbooks— caretaker frantically studying anatomy diagrams, trying to figure out how to save whumpee as whumpee lies sick or injured or dying
a bookshelf falling down and crushing someone
assassins. idk. people in elegant black suits, paid to kill. that can be really dark academia if you play your cards right
chess game between whumper and whumpee. every time whumpee’s piece gets captured, whumper breaks one of their bones. alternatively, the game is between whumper and caretaker— same rules. caretaker has to play perfectly or else risk losing whumpee

Hello! Your blog is amazing, thanks for it! Can you imagine some whump prompts for dark academia?
I'm not very familiar with the dark academia aesthetic but I can try!
Papercuts
Ink to the eyes
Poisoned tea/coffee
Constant all-nighters
Topical poison on book pages
Burns from candles or sealing wax
Elegant "love" letters from a stalker
A fall from the ladder/stairs in the library
Dabbling too deep into tomes of dark magic
Whumper punishing Whumpee for poor calligraphy
Eyestrain/headaches from long reading and low light
Hand injuries from writing for too long without breaks
Whumper plucking Winged Whumpee's feathers for quill pens
Hiding bruises and/or scars under their cardigans/blazers/tweed
Overheating in said fashion (or caught in cold weather without it)
Whumper blackmails Whumpee after getting ahold of their private writing
Whumper inflicting wounds on Whumpee that are meant to emulate tragic classical art
