I am a passionate reader of feminist texts. This is my first book to read in March for #femmemarch . Mallika Sengupta is an excellent author who perfectly captures my rebellious soul. Her novel Sitayan is an amazing retelling of Ramayana from Sita's perspective. Which retelling of Ramayana do you like the most? . . . #femmemarch #bookislife #bookstagramindia #bookstagram #bookshelf #mimisbookshelf #bookish #feminism #feministideas

鈴玏e Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie "We must raise our daughters differently, we must also raise our sons differently"- this was Chimamanda's solution for a better world of happier men and happier women. Is feminist really an aggressive term, as we become afraid of calling ourselves as feminists? Chimamanda presents her view as how she had to confront difficult situations for being a woman in a Nigerian society, where 'feminist' is a slang word, an abusive word. Does feminism really mean so? She says- . "Feminist: a person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes" So no more hiding of the real woman within ourselves but it is a matter of celebration of the beauty and immense power. . . . . Saree: an orange Bangladeshi Dhakai, originally from Bangladesh, gifted by my grandmother, who is also a very powerful woman who has the rebellious mind and a powerful soul!馃挓 #bookshelf #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #bookstagramindia #mimisbookshelf #booksandsarees #bookislife #booksforlife #powerfulbooks #feminism #feministideas

Bhangankaal is a story of dreams and despair. One life revolves around other lives and others' expectations. What could possibly be the ultimate happiness in a person's life, a good house, a car, child's great future? Perhaps but there is always something more to crave for, to die for and with more expectation comes the moment of demotion, the 'bhangan.' Life is to face the despair with the love for each other, with trust and promise of being together, no matter what may try to rip us off from our dreams.. #bookstagram #bookstagramindia #suchitrabhattacharya #bookislife #mimisbookshelf #booksof2018 #agoodread #booksandsarees (at 唳多唳ㄠ唳む唳ㄠ唳曕唳むΘ)

I chose this book to read on my Honeymoon, getting recommendations from many blogs, however it turned out to be a very melancholic tale of love, not a very romantic one to read on such kind of vacations. Finch and Violet had a tough time to build their relationship and the only issue that kept me reading this book is their mental illness ; how two utterly depressed people found love in each other and it is the only thing that drew them together but also the same thing that separated them as well... . . I borrowed this saree from my Mother-in-law's incredible collection of sarees. It is a sea-green silk saree with the iconic needlework of Santiniketan's Kanthastich tradition.. . . #bookstagramindia #booksforlife #bookislife #booksandsarees #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #jenniferniven #allthebrightplaces #agoodread #2018 #2018goals馃挄 #newtheme #newyear #bookish (at Sriniketan, India)

"If marriage is the end of life, how can it be the goal of life?" Menon asked so many questions such as this and attempted to answer them in a very practical manner.. Absolutely stunned by reading this gorgeous book with a gorgeous writing that energizes the rage, I hold in my mind against the set up rules for women, some of which I personally faced, after marriage as well as before it. This world is still a battlefield of sexes, where women have to fight harder, although being nominated as the weaker sex at the end of the day. This bright red silk saree is a favourite one from my collection, which I thought holds the powerful colour that matches with the powerful subject of this book... #badbeti #feministreading #niveditamenon #seeinglikeafeminist #booksofinstagram #bookstagramindia #bookislife #booksforlife #mimisbookshelf #powerfulbooks #bookish (at Shanti Niketan, West Bengal, India)

It's not everyday, that you get to read a great book, let alone a phenomenal one. My friend, @shoileyee has made me a list of bengali books, which have extraordinary titles like these. By her recommendation I picked up this book, 'Dahan' by Suchitra Bhattacharya from that list and utterly moved by the story. My friend surely has a great taste, that deserves much appraisal. . . I was thinking about choosing a theme for my bookstagram, when after swimming into the sea of ideas, I finally resolved to a simple theme of making background with my sarees, which I love also. Therefore, thought to combine my two loves, books and sarees together. I hope this becomes great over time... . . 'Dahan' is a story of a brave woman, Jhinuk, who rescued a homemaker, Romita from being raped at the Metro Station, Kolkata. Not only there, she stopped but fought till the end for that woman's right to get justice, however she could not get it as women are always a victim of the shackles of 'sanskars' of the society. In here too, we see that brave woman to challenge the normative ideas of feminine values in a society, as well as pictured how essential it is to give the long-due respect, women deserve. Otherwise, women like Romita would have to remain silent through ages, withstanding the bruises on her body, mind and dignity... . . . This saree is a pure silk, which I got on my 'Astamangala' (the time I went to my mom's home for the first time after my marriage). This is one of my favourite sarees... . . I used this saree because, 'Dahan' means the act of burning 馃敟. The burning yellow colour of this saree goes to amplify that sensation, that desire of women to do something for themselves, to symbolize they do not only wear the burning colours, but they also have a fire within... . . . #booksandsarees #bookstagramindia #booksofinstagram #bookforlifetime #bookislife #suchitrabhattacharya #agreatread (at 唳多唳ㄠ唳む唳ㄠ唳曕唳むΘ)

Recently presented a critical paper on this outstanding text, "The Palace of Illusions" by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. The male-author of the Indian epic, Mahabharata was too partial or may be ashamed to reveal the power-hungry attitude of men to achieve their valour and dignity, causing ruins to civilization for their own benfit, so a woman had to be victimised for being the supposed cause of war of Kurukshetra. Divakaruni tries to bring justice for this woman, Draupadi, who was blamed for men's own exploits. However Divakaruni chose Draupadi, in the name of Panchali to retell the epic from a feminist perspective, in which the shadowy figures would deconstruct the older patriarchal versions and reconstruct an identity for themselves. Very happy to get a chance on doing a presentation on this book. Divakaruni brings out Panchali's hidden love for another man, out of marriage, whom she could met after her death. Written in a very critical, subtle and obscenity-proof language she creates an illusory effect to mesmerize readers and visit throughout the Palace of Illusions. #chitrabanerjeedivakaruni #palaceofillusions #feministreading #epic #incredibleread
