You Who Came From Another Star Episode 17
Big decisions are made and directions chosen, leading this episode to its all-time high rating of 27%. We also get a sassy cameo from a familiar character (random drama crossover!) to throw in some laughs, not that Chun Song-yi has any trouble supplying those on her own. I do love that even as Song-yi has legitimate reasons for feeling crushed and miserable at times, the show retains its light touch in its expression of that angst; she can make our hearts twinge in sympathy for her while still making us laugh, which is a much appreciated (and all-too-rare) achievement.
RECAP: SEVENTEENTH RECORD
In interview mode, Min-joon tells us of a government job he once held, working at the bureau that dealt with astronomy, meteorology, and geography matters. We see the Joseon Min-joon poring over a text that contains detailed calculations of astronomical phenomena, like the phases of the sun and moon and eclipse forecasts. His colleague asks if he’s been going around saying “strange things”—like the world being round or spinning, for instance.
Min-joon says that it’s true, only to have his friend laugh that it’s ridiculous—why are people not dizzy at the spinning, and what evidence does he have for calling the Earth round? Min-joon chuckles that it’s visible from afar, but just smiles to himself when his colleague asks if he’s ever personally seen Earth from a distance.
In his interview, Min-joon says that on his home planet there was a lot of curiosity about Earth. He gives us the nutshell explanation of how they made the trip to Earth, which involved terraforming an asteroid to make it seem like an ordinary comet, to hide it from the Earth’s view, and to time its arrival to coincide with Earth’s orbit at the point where it’s nearest the sun. This orbit takes 404 years, so this upcoming comet’s approach will be his first chance to go home.
It will likely also be his last chance, because there’s always the possibility that orbits may shift in the future. But more importantly, if he doesn’t go home this time, he might die.
Now we resume the conversation as Song-yi and Min-joon wait to shoot her scene. Min-joon confesses that he has to return to his home in a month’s time, and Song-yi tries understand. Not fully grasping the implications, she says that’s okay, but when will he come back? Oof. “I’m good at waiting,” she adds.
But reading Min-joon’s reaction, she guesses that it won’t be one year or even ten. She asks, “You won’t be coming back?” Min-joon nods, too wracked with sobs to say anything. Ackkkk, I love the way he cries, except for the way it tears my heart out.
As this sinks in, Song-yi’s temper flares as she calls him an awful jerk after all, now seeing why he spouted all that stuff about being selfish. “One month?!” she exclaims, as though offended at its tininess.
Song-yi storms off and invites herself on Se-mi’s ride back to Seoul. Everyone sits uncomfortably while Song-yi sobs to herself, then asks for a more appropriate song selection than the peppy Jason Mraz song playing. She makes her requests in increasingly distraught wails, singing along to “Like being shot” (Baek Ji-young), “I’ll get lost, have a nice life” (G.Na), and “Can’t let you go” (2AM).
At home, Yoon-jae catches a news report about the approach of a comet, named Deep South, which is returning for the first time in 400 years. Curiously, there’s also mention of a second comet that has been disintegrated by its proximity to the sun, which seems like it ought to mean something important.
Song-yi arrives home and locks herself in her room, where she cries in bed. That means that when the director is finally read to shoot her scene, she’s nowhere to be found. Indignant, the director orders her replaced right away, happy to cut Song-yi loose.
That lasts for about two seconds until Min-joon approaches in full manager-lawyer mode, stating that Song-yi has been rushed to the hospital. He pointedly reminds the director of the stunt that went awry on his watch, compounded by the extraneous action shoots he forced her to endure, which aggravated her condition. Min-joon apologizes a touch sarcastically for messing up the schedule. The director backpedals right quick, assuring Min-joon that schedules are made to be changed.
Hwi-kyung gets the roster for the stunt team and sees Killer Secretary there. (He’s listed under the name Lee Shin, but why rename him now when Killer Secretary does so well?) He tries calling the phone number, which has been disconnected.
He keeps up the unsuspecting brother routine with Jae-kyung, and asks if hyung will accompany him to visit their eldest brother’s grave. He doesn’t press when Jae-kyung declines with a excuse.
Min-joon arrives home and hears the voices next door as Mom urges Song-yi to stop crying. Heart heavy, he picks up his book again (the Miraculous Journey story) and resumes reading, the words landing with poetic sadness:
Look at me. Grandmother made a wish. I learned how to love. That was a terrible thing. It hurts. My heart hearts. Please help me.
In the early morning, Min-joon hears Song-yi heading out for a jog and follows her outside, wanting to talk. She’s still angry and snaps that they have nothing to talk about—he’s leaving, fine. She’d already decided to get over him when he came after her and kissed her, she reminds him.
He blurts that he did that because she kept doing things to worry him, like signing contracts with random guys and getting caught up in engagement rumors. She retorts that it’s none of his business since he’s leaving: “The day you leave, I’ll grab any random guy and get engaged!”
Song-yi jogs on without him, which is when Min-joon catches the eye of a young woman sitting on a bench, whose face lights up to recognize him. It’s Suzy in her cameo, getting the full goddess intro with hazy white light and slo-mo camera work. She recognizes Min-joon as her professor and introduces herself as Go Hye-mi—you know, her Dream Highcharacter—and even adds that he looks just like her ex-boyfriend Sam-dong, which, HA.
Min-joon clearly doesn’t remember who she is or return her interest, even when she admits that she failed his class on purpose so she could take it again. To be polite, he lies that hemight maybe remember her, and she says coyly that it’s possible he didn’t recognize her because she’s gotten prettier in the last year. LOL. Good to know the Hye-mi ego is still indestructible.
Min-joon doesn’t quite know how to extricate himself so he humors Hye-mi for a bit, just as Song-yi turns to see the young upstart flirting with her man. So when Hye-mi reaches to brush something from Min-joon’s face, Song-yi slaps down her visor and butts in—literally, backing up to break up the cozy clinch. Then she loiters in the background, watching the scene intently.
Undeterred, Hye-mi notes that the professor has finally gotten a cell phone, and asks for his number. Min-joon tries to refuse, but she pours on the aegyo until he reluctantly starts to recite his number. At which point Song-yi barges in again and informs Min-joon curtly: “You said you wanted to talk. I have time right now. Do you want to talk now or never see me again? Make your choice.”
So Min-joon gives a hasty goodbye and dashes after Song-yi, leaving Hye-mi grumbling about the interfering ajumma who looks like a Song-yi knockoff.
Song-yi cuts right to the chase: Does he have to go? Can he… not? She asks why it had to be now, of all times—he’d lived here for so many hundreds of years, and the minute he meets her he has to go away. Can’t he just stay with her?
Min-joon can’t reply, and she adds, “If you can’t, then don’t shake my resolve. It may be over for you once you leave, but I have to keep living here.” She asks him to leave quietly, “and leave me alone.”
Min-joon replies, “If that’s what you want, I’ll do that.” He turns and walks away. Song-yi turns too, heading in the other direction.
Hwi-kyung and his mother visit his brother’s grave, and Hwi-kyung notes that hyung’s accident befell him when he was this age. Huh, I’d assumed it was in childhood or at least adolescence, but I guess not.
He comments on the oddity of his non-drinking brother deciding to drive drunk one day—and on the day before Hwi-kyung’s graduation, which he’d promised to attend. Mom explains that they hadn’t known he suffered from depression until the autopsy revealed antidepressants in his system. Coupled with news that he was foiled in love, she supposes that he’d decided to take his own life.
But that’s not the conclusion Hwi-kyung’s mind arrives at—something doesn’t add up, he decides. So he digs up an old article reporting on his brother’s death, and the name of that medication triggers a hunch. He scans a news report on Yura’s death, and yes, there it is—the same meds.
Aw, poor guy. It’s a blow to finally get confirmation of what he feared, but that doesn’t prevent him from meeting with Seok to share his knowledge. Seok wonders why he would disclose information about his own brother, but Hwi-kyung says that it’s because he’s his brother that he needs to stop him. He offers one more crucial bit of information: the mental hospital where Jae-kyung sent his ex-wife.
Song-yi takes out Bok-ja for grilled meat, redoubling her efforts to eat only the parts that are supposed to keep her youthful-looking. Aw so she hasn’t given up yet, has she?
Min-joon’s no better off, and Lawyer Jang comes by with consolation drinks. Min-joon reminds him that he can’t drink, but Lawyer Jang figures no harm can happen since it’s just the two of them at home. (Famous last words.)
Min-joon reminds Lawyer Jang of a question he’d once asked, about how he managed the loneliness while living so long on his own. “When I lived completely alone, I never felt lonely. It’s only now that I’ve found someone to love for the first time, and think of having to leave her side, that I feel truly lonely. As though I’m the only one left in the universe.”
He drains his bowl, while across town Song-yi confides to Bok-ja that she wishes she could turn back time so that she’d never meet him. Then she wouldn’t feel this terrible emptiness at the thought of being without him.
By the time Song-yi returns home, Min-joon is drunk and the lights are flickering madly. These things are not unrelated. Lawyer Jang cuts him off, and Min-joon wonders dully, “What should I do now?” His head drops in frustration, and the lights go completely black.
Song-yi’s lights cut out too… as do those in the entire building. Haha. Lawyer Jang lights a candle and grumbles that he thought Min-joon might make things fly around, not short-circuit the building. I love the idea of Lawyer Jang hoping to see some alien tricks for his amusement.
Min-joon slurs to Lawyer Jang that his time is precious—why is he spending it here, instead of where he really wants to be? (Lawyer Jang sniffs that he understands the sentiment, but the wording is mean—is a thirty-year friendship good for nothing when a woman’s involved?)
Then, suddenly, Min-joon disappears. Lawyer Jang finds him on the balcony, drunkenly ordering Se-mi’s billboard to move aside—he came out wanting to see Song-yi’s face. Next thing we know, Se-mi’s lighted ad goes dark too, and Lawyer Jang complains, “D’you really have no better place to use your energy?”
Then the whole city goes dark, and Lawyer Jang worries that he should never have gotten Min-joon drunk. Hindsight is so clear, isn’t it?
Song-yi lights candles and heads to her room, only to find Min-joon sprawled on her bed. She feigns annoyance while actually being gratified, and quietly mumbles at him to leave before giving up, saying, “Well, I’ve done as much as I can.” Haha.
Min-joon starts mumbling, “I… don’t wanna be with Lawyer Jang.” She asks who he wants to be with, and thrills when he answers, “Chunnnn Song-yiiiii.”
In the morning, he wakes up sober and shame-faced. In his interview, Min-joon declares that he deplores people who get blackout drunk, tsk-tsking righteously at humans who would give up their free will to the powers of alcohol.
Making his mortification complete, Song-yi’s staring right at him, ready for his scolding. She informs him that he got roaring drunk and passed out on her bed, and Interview Min-joon says haltingly, “I did? But there’s no way I would…”
She gets right in his face and he asks her to step back. She challenges, “Why should I?” and he stammers, “B-because I can’t th-think.”
“Then what about this?” she asks, and swoops in to kiss him. Then she collects herself, straightens, and orders him to leave.
“Are you playing around?” he asks. “Why’d you just do that?” She points out that he’s probably pissed off, which is exactly how she feels.
Just then, her mother knocks on the door and they scramble around to hide before she catches them in this incriminating scene. Song-yi locks her door and tries to get rid of her mother, while Min-joon focuses his energy to teleport out… only to find his powers on the fritz.
Which means he’ll have to do this the old-fashioned way. Min-joon climbs onto the balcony, gritting his teeth while Song-yi disparages his lack of skills and says that he can’t do anything better than a human.
She returns to her room to find her brother looking at her suspiciously, whom she fobs off with excuses. She reminds him to talk to Dad, even though Yoon-jae barely remembers his father. He talks like he’d not interested in talking to Dad, but he does drop by his father’s security guard job to watch him work from a distance.
Seok goes to the mental hospital for a surprise search, hoping to catch them off-guard. They storm inside with a search and seizure warrant, but there’s no trace of the ex-wife.
Min-joon runs into Yoon-jae in the hallway, and Little Bro offers the information that Song-yi hasn’t been eating or sleeping well. We see her haunting her phone for a call or a message, and when she doesn’t get any, she fires up the chat app. She writes and deletes a bunch of half-completed messages, like how she wants to spend the month with Min-joon anyway.
She changes tack and goes for the direct approach: Speaking aloud, she talks as though Min-joon can hear her (he can), explaining that she’s never been a constant fan of anyone, hopping fanclubs as her tastes changed. She’s fickle like that.
“I’ve been thinking it over, and I think I could forget you right away,” she says. “Just help me not have regrets. If I send you off without having done anything, I think I’ll be left with unfulfilled feelings. So… all the things people do in three months, a year, and two years… as you said, let’s do it all in one month.”
She struggles to keep her tears under control and continues, “If we do everything we want to, maybe I’ll even get tired of you before the month is over. That’s the kind of person I am.”
Listening from his room, Min-joon agrees to her suggestion. “But how do I forget you?” he asks. Song-yi proposes a trip tomorrow, and Min-joon sends a text to confirm it.
So in the morning, they meet in the hallway and head out together. She takes his hand in the elevator, and they keep holding tight as he drives.
Jae-kyung gets word that the prosecutor was at the hospital and makes arrangements to have his ex transferred. The more important question is how the prosecutor knew about the hospital, and Jae-kyung has an inkling of who might have tipped him off. Just then, Hwi-kyung drops by to ask hyung to lunch, and leads him to a private restaurant room to meet somebody important.
Jae-kyung is interrupted by an emergency phone call that his ex-wife has disappeared. He starts to dash out to take care of the matter, but Hwi-kyung grabs his arm and leads him to that room anyway… to face the ex, sitting next to the prosecutor.
In flashback, we see Hwi-kyung calling Song-yi during her jog in the park, where he hears Min-joon’s voice over the line and calls him out separately. Hwi-kyung refers to his hospital stay and confronts him about materializing out of thin air, and also for saving Song-yi twelve years ago. Min-joon confirms that it’s true, and now Hwi-kyung decides to trust him and take him into his confidence.
Now understanding why Min-joon warned him to protect Song-yi from his brother, he shares what he learned of the wire stunt and asks for Min-joon’s help in extricating the ex from the hospital.
Now we see that Hwi-kyung had suggested that Seok’s arrival at the hospital would spur the staff to hide the ex-wife—and Min-joon was there to see where they took her. Min-joon and Hwi-kyung had followed that getaway car to the house where the ex was taken, and Min-joon used his time-freeze to bypass security.
Min-joon and Song-yi hole up in a cozy getaway, where she asks him to run lines with her. She assures him that he doesn’t need to act, which is a good thing because he is hilariously stilted—although that doesn’t stop her from loving hearing him say that she’s the most beautiful woman in the world who doesn’t need to diet or change.
Min-joon complains at the cheesy dialogue—ha, I’m going to die laughing if she made it up—but that’s nothing compared to the back-hug scene direction, which he doesn’t want her to do. She suggests practicing it, which he gruffly refuses to do—and then he reads the next page and stops, suddenly in a dark mood.
Song-yi sticks to Min-joon’s side while he makes coffee, and she assures him that this is all in service of getting sick of him quickly. Min-joon laughs to himself, knowing she’s bluffing when she talks like a dating pro when really, Yoon-jae told him that she’s never once dated before so she has no idea what she’s doing. And also that she gets super attached to things and can’t even raise a puppy because she gets so scared it’ll come to harm.
So when Song-yi finds the main room empty—and also the terrace, and the side house—she tears around the property screaming his name, afraid he’s gone. He shows up behind her and she clings to his hand, saying that she was afraid he’d left already, without warning or farewell.
Min-joon promises, “I won’t go. I won’t leave you and go. I’m going to stay here with you.”
He clarifies that he means not now, and not in a month either. She asks if that’ll be okay for him, and he hesitates. We know he’s thinking he’ll die, but he assures her, “I’ll be okay.”
Song-yi hugs him tight.
EPILOGUE
Song-yi taps away at her computer, indeed having written all that cheesy dialogue about how she’s perfect the way she is, and better than all those annoying, loud youngsters of today.
She grins to herself and adds a kiss in the scene, but deletes it thinking of Min-joon’s health, replacing it with a back-hug. She squeals to herself at the idea, then goes in for the killer last line, which Min-joon couldn’t bring himself to say: “I won’t go anywhere, I’ll stay at your side for a long, long time.”
COMMENTS
He’s not going? Aieeeeeeeee. I’m half-thrilled at his decision—mostly because it’s less frustrating to live with a decision than it is to wait for one to be made—but also wary that this means we’re heading into terminal disease melodrama. This drama has been so solid for so long that I don’t actually believe it’ll tank into a glorified cancer suffering narrative now a la Thousand Day Promise or whatnot, and I do have faith that it’ll keep its sense of humor. If we could get through the noble rejection and the self-denial angst and the separation misery with good humor, then I’m sure we can get through the rest with equal cheer. It’s just, you know. The Cancer Drama was never my favorite genre.
I’m not too worried that Min-joon would actually die at the drama’s end (I believe that it’s a genuine concern to him within the storyline, but this just isn’t that kind of show), but I do feel uneasy at the fact that he’s lying to Song-yi. Aside from the basic part where he’s lying, it’s going to hurt to watch her start planning her future with her full-steam-ahead enthusiasm, while Min-joon will just be hoping he was wrong and won’t keel over at her feet.
And of course, there’s also the all-too-crucial question: But what about the kisses? And the skinship? And no, Saran wrap kisses won’t do, because they were frankly creepy inPushing Daisies and they’d be just as creepy here.
We got some explanation of the comet-hopping mechanism today, though I’m not quite sure what to make of that disappearing comet. Was that a throwaway detail, or will it have unforeseen consequences on Min-joon’s physical condition, or ties to his planet? The drama has been pretty stingy on comet-related details so I tend to think anything they give us is going to play out somehow, but it remains to be seen how.
In any case, I’m relieved to have Min-joon deciding to go forward with his Earth happiness, even if it’s the infinitely riskier move when it comes to his life. But the guy has lived for 400 years (at the very least), and hasn’t really felt alive till the past few months. Better a short life with love than an unending one without?

You Who Came From Another Star Ep 16
When all you feel in your heart is love, there really isn’t much room for anything else, but leave it to these two to make room for everything – including more happiness, plans for the future, and some petty revenge just to name a few. You would think the safest place in the world would be in his arms, but this picture is only reminding us how much they have to lose.
Written before it aired: Back on E2, MJ wondered if he wasn’t staring at a reincarnation. No one came blame him cuz SY and YH are alike in more ways than one. Two different times and two different women and yet their feelings and actions overlap when it comes to MJ. Neither turned away from him once they learned the truth about him. Instead of running and screaming, YH stayed by his side and started having feelings for him. She yelled at him to go away to keep him safe. She died protecting him. Her love gave her the strength to do that. Something tells me SY’s love for him might be tested in the opposite way – if it’s strong enough for her to let him go.
As much as I loved that preview, I have to admit I almost cried. Even in his arms, SY still had doubts. She asked him who he kissed – her or that girl. His feelings for YH aside, SY doesn’t get that he owed a debt to YH for saving his life. YH shielded him from those arrows so he could live and fall in love 400 years later. MJ fell in love with the only other woman in the world who would accept his secret without question – someone who would surprise him by taking his hand when he yelled at her to go, someone who doesn’t care where he is from and only cared that he didn’t like her back, someone who would love him more each day, and hopefully- someone whose love is strong enough to make him stay. There is only one woman in his heart right now and it’s the same one in his arms so it’s high time for SY to trust that.
Due to the Olympics, this airs 30 mins earlier both nights at 9:30 sharp.
E16
Starts from SY saying: since you dont seem to know this still I will say it clearly. I dont like you anymore – since you are like this I don’t like you even more so please disappear from my sight – no, from my life. also it would be nice if you knew how selfish you are. MJ suddenly makes all the lights turn on everywhere. he makes her float over to him so she ends up in his arms. she asks what are you doing now. MJ: the most selfish thing I can do to you. he leans in and kisses her. She pulls away and says there really is nothing you won’t do. she walks off so he stops her. she asks why – do you like me? do you like me? the effect of the kiss is starting to weaken him. she looks away and says you really cant lie. you could have just said you liked me in this mood. she turns her back to him and says do you do that on your star. kiss a girl you dont even like. on my star this isn’t right. the men on my star only do that to the girl they like. this isnt right. dont you think so DMJ? she turns and sees him on the ground trying to catch his breath.
she has to half carry half drag him up the steps and says wake up – why are you like this. she puts him in the car. SY: what kind of man faints every time he kisses. she gets in the car and asks where the keys are. he says pockets. she gets it from his pocket and starts the engine. she reaches over to put his seatbelt on and his head falls to the side so she checks for a fever. his head falls on her shoulder as she wonders which star did you come from?
SY speeds and drives like crazy yelling at drivers to move. cant you see I am in a hurry? a person is dying. are you not going to move? she honks her horn and flashes her lights to get people to move aside. MJ says go slowly – I will really die if you do this. she asks cant you see I am doing my best to try to save you now. she looks at him to ask are you ok so he says – look ahead – please look straight ahead. she almost hits the car in front and brakes just in time
she half carries him home and puts him in bed. she shakes him awake and says talk – this isnt a coincidence huh? MJ: what? SY: last time you kissed too you fainted as soon as you did it. this time too as soon as you did it you fainted. what is this – what is causing it? don’t act like you didn’t hear and tell me – what is it? what is the secret? is it more shocking than being an alien. from what I can see – I think there is a problem with skinship. but nothing much happened when we held hands. does that mean you can’t kiss. huh? is that correct? MJ: be quiet. SY: according to what you said – you are an alien so you are different from me. you are an alien and I am an earthling. what is this. anyway i have to know what we can do and cant do -our limits. so starting from what we can and from where we cant. so starting from kissing - cant do all the rest? cant do anything more than that? since you already came out as an alien what is there that you cant say? what you can do and can’t do. he pulls her close and makes her lay in his arms. MJ: this is ok. she says ok I know we can so let go, but he doesnt let go so she pretends to complain -I said to let go- you dont listen. she snuggles and saying “oh well – cant be helped. but let’s sort this out. a while back i asked you “what about me – how do you think of me as a woman,” after that you ignored me so much. you used that hair pin owner and said you were only interested in me cuz I resembled that girl. that if I wasnt that girl you weren’t interested – did you say that or not? anyway so cuz of that I put my feelings in order but then today you suddenly showed up and kissed me without my consent so in my situation I cant help but be curious. who did you kiss? me or that girl I resemble? she complains cuz she cant beat a girl who isnt around. i really want to know – that kiss – who did you do it to? me or to that girl I resemble? do you know what the biggest headache in the world is? going up against a girl in memories. if she existed now in reality I could know what kind of girl she is and I could even compete with her, but this girl remains beautifully in your memories so how can I beat her? I really want to know – that kiss a while ago – who did you do it to? me or to that girl? huh? MJ: I did it to chun SY. SY: who? he says her name again so she makes him repeat and cuddles. they sleep like that in his arms.
when YJ comes downstairs he doesnt see her. it’s morning -7am. he checks her room but she isnt there. YJ: what is this? he calls her and says do you know what time it is now. she sneaks out of MJ’s room and lies. SY: i filmed all night and I arrived in the parking garage just now. I am going in now. when she leaves MJ’s home her brother is standing there. she says I know what you are thinking, but it’s not like that. YJ: filmed all night? SY: you could misunderstand, but it’s not like that. he yells follow me in and looks angry
Like a kid in trouble SY plays with her rug while YJ beats the couch. YJ: were you there all night at that guy’s house – have you lost your mind. SY:I told you it’s not what you think. his condition wasn’t in a condition to do that. YJ: what is so important about his condition? men are all the same dummy- when the sun goes down, trapped within walls, in his home then it’s all over. SY: what? he says it’s what men want. it’s dark so there is only one thought. SY: he isnt that kind of kid. the kid is sick. YJ: is a sick guy not a guy? if he was sick then he must have been covered with a blanket – if you used a blanket then it’s game over. he moves to hit her so she pulls away. she mutters - now that I think about it – it’s making me mad. she tells YJ: I wasnt able to do anything at all. the sun set and it was dark and there was a roof, walls, and a blanket but what you are thinking of – I couldn’t do anything at all – nothing at all. she sighs audibly
on the elevator, JK remembers his lackey saying -that day of the accident site I didn’t know your younger brother would show up. just in case he might have seen me there.
JK goes in and HK says hi to him. their parents are there along with the doctor. JK asks when HK woke up. the mom says a while ago in the morning. he just finished a simple examination. JK asks the doc if HK is ok. the doctor says that looking at how HK can exercise and there aren’t any effects from his coma he could be discharged on wed. dad: what did I say – nothing big would happen – look at how perfectly fine he is. JK asks if HK is ok. HK: just a little dizzy. he asks the doctor – you didn’t shave my hair and just put two staples in huh? thank you for doing it so pretty. the mom says HK cant remember the day of the accident. he only remembers making the reservation to send the food truck to SY’s film site and nothing after that on the day of the accident. the doctor says that could happen for a short time. dad says what difference does it make if he cant remember just that day. he could do that. HK asks JK if SY has been discharged cuz she is ok now. the mom says you are worried about that brat – worry about yourself. he tells her not to call SY that brat. the mom says you are alive cuz now that you open your mouth you only say things that I hate. he looks for his phone so he can call SY.
Yoo and Park are watching their interview with JK. Park says how JK’s expression doesn’t change. Yoo says it’s a face we cant know what he is thinking inside.
on the video, JK repeats what they said – that he was in a dating relationship with Han. I told you that cuz the situation isn’t steady so does that become a problem? Yoo: tell us exactly. you weren’t in a dating relationship with Han? JK: I wasn’t. she might have thought that though. cuz of work related stuff we met a few times. she asked to have a meal so we met too. I would assume you looked into my relationships with women and already know, but after my divorce I haven’t met a single woman seriously. Park brings up his ex wife. are you in contact with her? JK: we broke up. Yoo: do you know where she is now? JK says I heard she went to England but that does that have to do with this case. Park says from what we found out your former wife met up with Han. JK: really? does that mean my former wife is in Korea or did Han go to England to meet her?
Park says to Yoo -look at his eyes. the look in his eyes is that he is really curious. Yoo says to try their best to find the former wife. Park says the video looked like some mental hospital so we are looking into it. but nothing is panning out. Park shows the home address of the ex wife but there is no one home. a guy comes in cuz Yoo’s boss wants to see him.
Yoo hears that he is off the case. the boss says I left you alone cuz you seemed to want to work hard at something but why go around doing unnecessary things. Yoo tells him how Han’s death could be a murder and not a suicide, but his boss says who said? the heir to S&C? think of it realistically. JK has everything so why would he do that (meaning what would be his motive). Yoo insists we have to investigate more to find out. the boss says Han’s death was a suicide
JK and his dad talk. the dad asks if JK was dating that dead celebrity. how did you end up getting called into the police? JK:I went and told them the truth. we didn’t have any relationship. the dad trusts that JK wouldnt make any mistakes. don’t forget – after what suddenly happened to your older brother, you are my hope now. don’t make any mistakes don’t have any blemishes cuz you are my heir.
MJ opens the door to find a very pissed off YJ standing there. MJ: what is it? YJ: my sister slept here yesterday didn’t she? MJ starts to explain: she didn’t sleep, but YJ says I will impose for a second and just walks in so MJ says what kind of brother and sister (siblings) treat someone else’s home as theirs.
when MJ goes in, YJ is already sitting and tells him to sit comfortably. MJ sits down. MJ: I am comfortable – this is my home. YJ: I guessed something was going on ever since the kimchi container so I kept watch, but in the end, this is what happened. MJ laughs so YJ does too. YJ: I will ask man to man - do you like my sister? MJ asks what was your name. YJ: Chun YJ. that’s not important now. do you like my sister? MJ laughs. YJ: are you laughing? you make a person sit in front of you and you laugh? MJ: I didn’t make you sit there. you came in on your own and sat. YJ: yes I did that. man to man – I came to ask - do you like my sister? MJ: want some chocolate milk? YJ: you have some? he feels like kicking himself for doing such a poor job of being scary.
*it’s so cute how YJ came in determined to be the tough brother but ends up drinking milk like a kid cuz MJ doesn’t find him threatening at all.
YJ is drinking and talking about his sister -ever since she was in school a lot of guys chased after her so I was busy trying to settle all those guys. this is the first time she liked some guy, I don’t know why but…he loses track of what he was saying as he looks up and sees the telescope. he drops his milk on the way so MJ has to set it upright.
YJ goes over to MJ’s double telescope and asks stuff about it – like how far he can see. MJ replies and YJ says impressed “daebak.” YJ finds the other bigger one so MJ lists nerdy info like what else he can see with that -like how far, the Andromeda, the magnification, etc. YJ asks is this all yours hyung? MJ nods yes. YJ: can I ask a favor? MJ: go ahead. YJ: can I take a sel cal photo next to it? MJ says take it. YJ takes photos. MJ hands him a stack of photos and says if you like stars, want these photos? YJ looks through them and they were taken in Chile - Atacama mountain. YJ: when I earn money it was my wish to go there. MJ: it’s where I like to go the most. it’s dry and the sky is clear so when it becomes night it feels like the stars pour down. YJ is in love
as he walks YJ out, MJ talks about the comet that is coming in march of 2014 and not to believe the news that earth will be damaged. cuz of that don’t say you will give up on your studies either. YJ: cuz NASA said it I thought it was real. it’s really not? MJ tells him how NASA said what the possibility was of destruction but they revealed that possibility went away. YJ: like you said I wont believe it and will be sure to study. I am so glad to have met you. MJ smiles. YJ says my sister lacks in a lot of ways, but be good to her. there is something I want to say. can I come over again to play?
SY knocks and goes to visit HK. he had been looking at a photo online of their fall. he pats the bed next to him and says come over here. she goes over and hugs him with a sad face. he says why are you like this. my heart is racing so I could faint again. SY: dummy what would have happened if you had died. why did you do that. HK: why would I die leaving you behind? she sits and says if something bad happened to you i wouldnt have been able to live too. how could I live? why did you do that for me when I didnt do anything for you. HK: you made me love you. he checks and asks you arent hurt anywhere. she cries and says i am sorry. HK: don’t cry. SY: even if you did this for me i am the same as always and cant do anything for you. I think I am making you miserable. I like DMJ – I can’t help it. he says I know. I cant do anything about me either (his feelings for her). don’t do that. I am really about to be embarrassed. SY: I might be able to live without my friend Lee HK, but I don’t think this is right. let’s…” he stops her from talking by saying “chance.”
flashback to HK getting beaten up by some guys while HK was protecting her. she asks are you ok. HK: chance. she asks what are you saying chance for at a time like this? HK: why? you said you were grateful. later on let me use chance just once. she says who told you to jump in – whether boys bother me or not – why did you have to jump in and end up like this. HK: they cant do that – kids who bother you will all die by me. from here on too. she wipes the blood on his face and asks are you ok. he says if you are sorry then let me use chance just once. SY: what chance? HK: later on when I say grant my wish just once -grant it to me. she says ok. he makes her sign his hand and stamp by hitting her forehead
HK asks if she remembers that we stamped on it. SY: I remember. HK: I really wanted to use that wish but I saved up that wish all this time holding back. she asks what his wish is. HK: what you were about to say just now - dont say it. of course I love you but you cant love me -even though I am a little miserable – but even though you are like that and aren’t next to me i really will become miserable so don’t do it – what you were going to say.
HK is eating when JK asks if SY came by. HK nods yes. JK remembers what he and SY said here. that she told that he was Han’s boyfriend. JK asks who else she told that to besides the detective so she said no one aside from HK. JK says I heard SY said something to you about the dead Han yura. HK: she did. JK: what? HK: the two of them didn’t get along. that she was really tired cuz of Han. JK: what else? HK: what? JK: she didn’t say anything about Han’s accident. HK pretends he cant remember. did she say something? like that? she just said it felt unfair cuz Han’s suicide wasn’t cuz of her. nothing much of anything else. he pretends his head hurts. when I fell I think I hit something wrong – like my memories are broken. I feel dizzy when I have to think. JK says dont try so hard on purpose -rest. He gets up and leaves. SY: what? YJ: there aren’t any bad people who loves stars. if he has the best telescopes in his home to stare at stars, that’s all that needs to be said. SY: that person doesnt look at stars he is from there. YJ: what? SY: there is something like that. he goes back to his photos so she asks if he thinks there are aliens. YJ: of course there are. I am someone who thinks an alien could live right next door to us. she calls him a genius.
when she goes out on her balcony she looks over to his side and calls out MJ’s name quietly. he comes out and asks why. SY: daebak. MJ: why did you call me? SY: to see if you could really hear or not. MJ: are you playing around? he goes back in so she calls out - how could you just go back in. I didn’t call to see if you could hear or not -I missed you so I called you. I said I called cuz I missed you. she mutters stuff about him and turns around and he is there. she wonders how he did that and even though she sees it -it’s hard to get used to it each time. he repeats what she said about him earlier and pinches her cheeks so she says let go.
she makes coffee and YJ thought it was for him but she says it’s both for me for when I get sleepy while memorizing lines
she asks MJ if his dad came from the star too. MJ says he isnt my father but he is someone like a father. she asks then he isnt your real dad. so you dont have family. MJ says i dont have any. she says but you stayed this long without family. I met my dad this time. cuz of the accident. we cant live together right away but i can call anytime so I feel more comfortable. he says thank goodness. she holds his hand and says i am here now. i will stay by your side a long time and not go anywhere. she suddenly takes back her hand and asks if his face will stay the same. she remembered his photo. how does that happen. he says the time on my star is different from time here. she worries what about me i will get wrinkles. he says you will be pretty even when you age. she talks about vampires and decides to go in cuz cold hair could age her
she puts on a mask and says I’m ruined. she does hoolahoop and says i will be 30 soon. she watches something on tv about looking younger and does it -blowing up gloves
Jang says how MJ is leaving in a month but MJ makes him quiet and points to the mic there. he writes on his phone that there is a mic and to speak naturally. MJ says i met JK and he asked me to help and I said i would think about it. Jang asks what did you tell him. MJ says i said I would think about it cuz it doesnt seem bad cuz I only need to protect SY. as long as JK is quiet i might cooperate. Jang says that’s worth thinking about.
SY and her mom are talking about MJ and HK. YJ likes MJ but her mom doesnt like MJ’s dad. she brings up how HK is being discharged
at the hospital HK wants to go see SY. he notices the new driver but pretends he has seen him before and mutters how he is always making mistakes remembering in front of JK
JK drops him off and says say hi to SY. HK says I will and waves bye. then he gets into a cab
HK goes and finds out about the crane on her film site. the guy says how he found a bolt. we should have checked well so I am sorry. HK says i didnt come for you to take responsibility – I was just curious. he asks if they use part time workers so the guy goes to check if there was a new part timer
MJ goes to pick up SY so YJ yells for her to hurry and come out. MJ points out YJ is too rude to her so YJ offers to fix that. she comes out looking like a kid. when she goes back in to change YJ tells him my sister lacks a lot
in the car SY tells him how there is a kiss scene so MJ doesnt like it. she lied cuz all she has are action scenes so he doesnt approve cuz the doctors dont want her to do that either. she asks then should I tell them to give me a kiss scene instead so he yells. she says how happy she is cuz he is next to her watching out for her. even if it takes a long time until I go back to my place.
on the set Saemi says hi to MJ. how are you here. SY says to follow me. Saemi asks why. MJ says to be SY’s manager. Saemi says i thought you had a contract with S&C. SY says no. Saemi says how the entertainment news is here so how about doing it together
the reporter asks SY about the chaebol she had a scandal with so SY says he is just a friend. Saemi says how when SY was younger she dated more than one guy at a time so SY yells when did I do that? Saemi talks about how when SY was the lead she took care of me so this time it’s my turn. he says how good a friend Saemi is. he asks for her to say what she wants so Saemi says to her – we wont change from here on right? SY makes a face to MJ
MJ lectures her how she should be more like Saemi
the director comes over so she says how they didnt contact her last time that the filming ended. the maknae PD says sorry I forgot. they walk off so she says how in the past they werent even able to look me in the eye.
MJ overhears those men talking about how SY mistreated them in the past so the PD did well by forgetting to contact her. they decide to make her suffer today
while SY is filming her action scene the director keeps making her do it over and over. when she is having a break MJ yells at her to listen to the doctor and not overdo it.
director keeps calling out NG and makes her jump over and over. after all of it he decides to go with the first take. while he is walking away MJ makes the director fall down. then MJ makes the other one fall down too
MJ covers her with a blanket and she asks if he is the one who made the director and PD fall down. she links arms and says how nice it is to have an alien manager. he asks arent you cold. she says yes I am. she asks if he can make fire come out of his fingers. she says i am cold – cant you make me warm. dont you have an ability to make me arm. he puts his arm around her so she says i am totally warm
at night there is one more scene and one more hour so SY complains that means there are 3 more hours. what do we do. the crew is playing go stop.
SY joins in and plays with them with MJ sitting next to her. she keeps winning cuz of MJ. they call her Tazza. MJ stops time and changes her card. she thanks them all and it makes MJ smile
they are sitting by a fire. SY says how this is the first time it was so fun. it’s ok to stay up all night too. she leans her head on his shoulder and asks what are we going to do on our 100 days. MJ looks uneasy and asks 100 days? SY:I used to make fun of it normally but since my situation changed like this my heart has changed. it’s childish but I want to do it. 100days – one year – 1000 days – I want to celebrate each anniversary. but which date do we start at? since it wasn’t definite up to now, should we just start from today? MJ: what did you want to do on that anniversary day? SY: we have to do everything others all do. for starters on 100days – couple rings and couple t-shirts. also when you go to the top of Namsan tower there is a restaurant that goes around in circles. I want to go there and eat dinner while looking at the view. underneath there is a place where you hang locks. I went there cuz of filming before so I thought later on when I date, I should come with my boyfriend and make a wish and hang a lock. also after a year, I have to eat some ice cream for you. MJ: ice cream? SY: you know – inside the ice cream, there is a ring right there. also celebrate for a week at least. what should we do for our 1000 days? is that in about 3 yrs? want to go backpacking to Europe then for about a month or a month and a half – how about it?
he doesnt say anything cuz he is holding back his emotions. so she looks at him and asks why? MJ: Chun SY. SY: what now? why are you like this again? weren’t we dating? am I overdoing it alone again? so is that why you said that before – that you are being selfish in what you are doing to me? he looks at her and says let’s do everything you want to do in advance. SY: in advance? MJ: yes in advance- within one month let’s do all of it. she asks why – why do we have to do it all within a month? huh? why? why do we have to do that? MJ looks down and says:I have to leave. she asks what are you talking about? leave where? where are you going? MJ: where I am originally from. after one month, I have to go back to where I came from. he looks at her and a tear drops from his eyes.
end
100 days later
at Namsan, there are a lot of locks and there is one with their names on it. SY is sitting alone inside the restaurant waiting -looking at the door expectantly. MJ doesn’t show up
*There is only so much you can do to prepare for a broken heart - not sure letting her in on the fact that he is leaving soon is one of them, but I’m sort of proud of MJ for not keeping her in the dark. She already accused him of being selfish at the start of this episode and he told her he was going to be selfish by kissing her and entering into this relationship so it’s only fair that he holds up his end of it by not withholding important facts from her. I’m sure hearing the news was devastating for SY, but it doesn’t compare to the pain he is feeling having to tell her cuz he knows it means she will be smiling less from here on and crying more. By revealing that bit of news, he is robbing her of the security she feels and reawakening the concern she used to have about someone she loves disappearing suddenly. That’s why he owed her the truth – this time around, he wants her to face the fact that he is leaving and prepare her for it. From here on out, the next month will be the longest of their lives – counting down till they have to say goodbye. That’s why I bet his tears were for the start of both of their hearts breaking.

Lee Beom-soo and Song Seung-heon courted for drama reunion
Song Seung-heon, Lee Mi-yeon, Lee Beom-soo
And the bromance lives on. I don’t know if Dr. Jin’s anything is something we want living on, but there’s no denying that Lee Beom-soo (Prime Minister and I) and Song Seung-heon (When a Man Loves) make a great odd (emphasis on odd) couple. They’re being courted to headline MBC’s new drama Triangle, along with Lee Mi-yeon (Noonas Over Flowers), Go Ara (Answer Me 1994), and Im Shi-wan (Attorney). Somebody went on a casting spree.
Triangle is the drama from the All In producers that was once called Hidden and also calledThree Foolish Brothers, depending on what day of the week you were looking. It was considered, then back-burnered for the Monday-Tuesday slot following Empress Ki, and now it’s back on again. At least they figured something out instead of keeping three drama crews in limbo. At the helm is PD Yoo Chul-yong along with writer Choi Wan-kyu, who worked together previously on All In and Swallow the Sun.
The drama will be about three brothers who are separated by tragedy and then grow up to lead extremely different lives. Lee Beom-soo is up to play the hyung who becomes a cop, and Song Seung-heon will be the middle brother who’s a gangster. Of course he is. Because he’s Song Seung-heon. Im Shi-wan is the maknae brother who grew up in the lap of luxury with wealthy parents. The drama will be about the events that unfold as their paths start to cross without any of them knowing that they’re brothers.
It pretty much sounds like East of Eden, though we won’t really know until they reveal more story details. Lee Mi-yeon is considering a dramaland comeback as Lee Beom-soo’s love interest, and all we’re told is that it’s a sad love. There isn’t much information on Go Ara’s character, and she sounds like less of a lock than the others. Everyone’s still “considering favorably” for now.
Triangle is planning to follow Empress Ki in April.
Go Ara, Im Shi-wan
